  1. Also you can always order Protein shakes online? The bottom line is that real fod will stick with you longer than Protein Shakes, so eat protein every chance you get to get it in...agree with @@Bufflehead don't waste space on things that are not protein!

    June 2nd is my surgery,

The pre-op diet is tough, the longer you go the easier it got for me. I did 2 weeks. You can do this! Keep your eyes on the prize, surgery day will be here before you know it! Good luck!

    The Real Me

Good for you for making a great decision. I also had a bad marriage that lasted too long. Am now married to the best man ever for 2 years. Since I found him so late in life, I want to be healthy so I can be with him a long time. Good luck!!

    The Waiting Game

Agree with @@CanyonBaby and @@Djmohr prepare prepare prepare. You can educate yourself and change your eating habits now. More Protein and veggies, less fat and carbs. I started the journey end of January and had surgery May 15th, went into surgery 45 pounds down. Thanks to that head start I have less (but still a lot lol) to lose after surgery. I also started a journal so I can look back on this later. I have loved recording my journey. Look up recipes for after surgery. For your soft food phase etc. The more prepared you are the more control you will feel. Good luck and welcome!!
  7. It's definitely not hunger. I have that gnawing also and its acid reflux. Ask your surgeons office about it. Mine put me on Prilosec for 14 days to help. Good luck!!

    Countdown to surgery begins!

You will be! Can't wait to see you there! Saving you a seat!
  9. I didn't think the weight would just fall off. I did my research before choosing to do the surgery and I know the sleeve is just a tool. The rest of it is up to me. I still have to eat properly and exercise in order to succeed.

    Terrified

Hi and welcome! I think all of us have fears. I am 4 days post-op and had many of the same thoughts you are having. I resisted even considering this surgery for years and now I am not sure why I ever did. I was afraid I would be the one disaster and I am not. I was afraid of being judged. I think I was even afraid of what would happen if I was a success. Lots of things will run through your head but the end result is what is important. It is a journey for sure and it is a mental test as well. I at one day post-op had my "OMG what have I done moment" but that too has passed. For anyone who thinks it is the easy way out, I dare you to do it. Nervousness and caution are healthy reactions to the possibility of surgery. Don't be frightened to go to the meeting. Ask questions. Information is your best ally. Being informed will take away the fear because you will know what to expect. Most people at that meeting will be scared also. You can do this, just one thing at a time! Good luck and keep us posted on your progress!
  12. Hi Suezle and welcome! I am 4 days pot-op and have yet to feel hungry. Know that this is a mental AND physical journey. You will have ups and downs. The success stories here will inspire you when you need it. Everyone is very nice and will give advice or answer questions when you ask. Follow your plan and it will all be fine! Good luck!

    Surgery at 56?

51 here and had it done May 15th. Very happy with a decision that took me a long time to come to. Good luck!

    4 days post op.....

So sorry you have had a rougher time of it. I also was sleeved on May 15th and day three was when I turned a corner. Until then I was unable to get much of any fluids in but day 3 I drank almost 48 ounces of Fluid. I am aiming for more today. Still have a bit of gas making it very uncomfortable to drink but taking gas-x and expect that to be gone soon. Hang in there, we are going to be so much better for our efforts! You can do this!! Eyes on the prize! Sending hugs!

    Two days to go

4 days post-op myself and you will have highs and lower moments but overall I would say it is the best decision I ever made. I am already off most of my meds and feeling soooo much better! Good luck on your journey!!

    Insomnia

Since Tylenol is ok to take, I would imagine Tylenol pm is good...worth a call to your surgeon's office to be sure though.
  17. Post-op day 4, things are finally beginning to settle down. It is a different feeling for sure but I am finally getting used to it. Day 3 was when I was finally able to get a decent amount of fluids in, things are looking up!

5 days out and still can't get enough fluids in! Just don't want them :-(

I have struggled as well...at 40 ounces a day and climbing...really have to push fluids. I think the swelling of the surgery makes it difficult at first. I spoke to my NUT yesterday and she said its normal and to keep pushing.

Peaches...I only wanted to drink water right after the surgery. Everyone told me not to use a straw, but I find I can get more liquids down with the straw. It does not seem to gas me up, thankfully! Keep a cup of water close and sip during commercials.

  18. Did anyone have trouble taking in enough liquid? I had surgery Friday and I am having difficulty with the Protein shakes...it seems to be the volume of the shake. I am sipping Water all day long but can't seem to get much in. I am able to get maybe 10-12 ounces. I m supposed to be drinking 3 Protein Shakes a day at 8 ounces each but I can't even get in 8 ounces. They are the Bariatric Advantage ones and they are so thick. I am switching to Isopure in the bottle today to try to combine liquid and protein in an effort to get my protein in. I know I need the protein to promote healing among other things so I am trying to get it in but after two sips I am so full and I have difficulty drinking more. I watch the time and try every 15 minutes to drink more. Any advice? I will be calling the NUt Monday morning for more advice but any now is greatly appreciated. Sorry I am only 2 days post-op...must be the pain meds...lol

    Normal Consumption...?

Don't worry, there is no "normal". We are all different. Just stick to the plan as you are and it will come. Good luck!

    Secret's Out

So sorry to hear that your family disrespected your privacy. I can understand why you had to share but from this point forward you don't have to. Its your journey and you can choose now who to include. I didn't tell any of my family or friends yet, only my co-workers and they are being amazing. Its a shame people can't show more respect and less gossip. One thing I know is that people treat you how you allow them to. Good luck on your amazing journey and to ALL the lessons you will learn along the way.

    Pre-Op Diet......Again!

None of it was really that bad but then all pre-op diets are not equal lol. Mine was Protein shakes, yogurt and Gatorade. I made it for 14 days and it wasn't all that bad. I think knowing its temporary really helps. Good luck with your surgery!

    Yikes...did something unthinking

I know how you feel...I am not cheating of course on my post-op 3 shakes a day, I am lucky to get one in at 2 days post-op but I find myself going too fast. It's a lifetime of habit to break and not an easy one to do. Good luck!!
