  1. No butt kicking needed. At least you decided for yourself to do something about it. Old habits die hard right? I am 11 days post-op and my nutritionist says 3 meals 2 Snacks. All nutritionists are different so I am just sharing what mine says. I am on soft foods at present but my extended plan is still 600-800 calories a day between 3 meals and 2 snacks. She says to get between 60-80 grams of Protein a day. Very important is to not add calories due to exercise. If you eat more because you are exercising you will not lose, the exercise is to burn what you eat. I would say that's a good place to start. Good luck!!

    Insurance lingo hepl

Deductible is when your insurance says you have to pay a certain amount before they will begin paying. The bills are applied to your deductible and once it is met, your insurance kicks in. Co-insurance is when you pay part and your insurance pays a part of the bill. Max out of pocket of when there is a limit to how much in a year you are expected to pay. When your portions add up to the max out of pocket, you don't pay any more for the year. When amounts are applied, they are the allowed amounts not the full bill. The provider and the insurance company in their contract have an agreed upon amount that will be considered for all procedures. THAT is the amount considered not the full bill. All amounts you pay are figured based on the allowed amount not the billed amount. Hope that helps. Message me if you have any other questions!!

    Fears

I had that same fear pre-op. But I will say being on this forum and reading all the wonderful success stories, advice and even the small victories is a huge inspiration. I am 10 days post-op now and all total with pre-op eating changes I am down 50 pounds! I think that fear of failure is a common theme with us all. We have all failed before and this is a drastic change. But, It IS a tool and it is up to us to use it. Take a deep breath and just move forward. Success is waiting for us all!!!!

    spaghetti squash

Yikes! Yes good advice, I know we still have to always eat Protein first so I know there won't be much room for the squash.

    Post surgery wardrobe

Already packing up some stuff for Goodwill...I agree, I don't want them in my closet. My mentality is I will never need them again so I am making room. I will shop sales and Goodwill. As I lose I am only going to buy a few pieces to get me by at each stage until I am at goal weight then its a shopping spree for me!
  9. 9 days post-op and doing great! It's a whole new world, here I come!

    Hello

If you are struggling, maybe try soft foods instead before "solids". They are much easier on your sleeve and can pave the way for a smoother transition. It can't hurt. If something is too hard, take a step back and try again.

    spaghetti squash

Spaghetti squash "should" be included because it is cooked and you are not eating the rind. I plan on getting one of those spiralizers and making noodles out of veggies myself!

Looking awesome!! Pics are also a great way to chronicle your journey. You can look back and see where you came from. You seem to be doing great and congrats!!!

    I'm driving myself crazy

As I understand it, for every significant drop in weight the body "resets". The weight will come off but maybe not as rapidly as you would like. You didn't mention exercise, are you walking? Go a little further every day, not only will it help to lose but you need to build your strength back. You are still recovering from surgery so know that also. The surgery is a tool not the answer, so look at all components of what you are doing. Good luck!!
  15. The best decision you can make is to do something to improve your health. I am one week and one day post op and the only regret I have is that I didn't do it sooner. It is definitely not the easy way out. Those who say that just think the surgery makes you lose the weight. The reality is that it is a tool along with better eating habits, the fact your food volume is severely reduced and you still must exercise. The pre-op diet wasn't that big of a deal for me. I had to do 2 weeks of it and I lost 20 pounds in those 2 weeks so it gave me motivation to get to the finish line of it. Once I got into the routine of it I didn't even eat the freebies like broth! I changed my eating habits at my consult at end of January this year, had surgery May 15th and with all I did lost 48 pounds so far. You will be amazed how well you an do with the tools you are given. Good for you for starting the process again! Good luck and keep us posted on your progress!!

Foods to eat on soft food diet

http://www.bariatriceating.com/2013/04/16/post-op-help-purees-soft-foods-begin-to-use-protein-for-healing/ http://milestogo.squarespace.com/post-op-food-phase-3-soft-food/ a couple good places to start
  18. OMG! Today is the beginning of my soft food phase. My wonderful hubby makes Breakfast and made me an omelet. A tiny one egg omelet! It had one egg, an ounce of turkey chopped, a pinch of onion and a pinch of 2% cheese. It was amazing!!! I could only eat 75% of it but it was the best thing I have had in a while. My sleeve tolerated it fine which I was nervous about. I feel great!!!

Did you have to cut ALL starches?

In my post I was saying that in order for us all to be successful we must change our eating habits for life. I do realize we are all human and we will slip now and again, The point being that in order to be successful we must make changes and realize that the foods we ate before CLEARLY do not work for us. Yes you can have a burger, just do bunless and add toppings that are healthy and no fries or only a few and eat them after you have eaten your Protein if you have room. Yes you can do sugar-free dessert or make a great dessert Protein shake with addins to make it a key lime pie, or reeses shake or even angel food cake with fruit and fat free whipped topping. Anyone can do what they want but like I said, it's all what you want to achieve. I personally want to achieve my goal weight and am not trying to justify eating off plan. That's my decision and it may not be the one for everyone, but I am looking to succeed. Moderation is not an option to me right now because I have my eyes on my goal weight. Those foods got me where I am and they will not sabotage me ever again! I am forging a new relationship with food, a more healthy one. Just my 2 cents.
  20. One week post-op and have lost all the fluid from surgery plus 2 more pounds. Get to start soft foods tomorrow.

Don't forget -- Cream of Wheat (non-instant) with added protein powder -- is the best early soft food I enjoyed....

  21. Having been overweight all my life and having failure after failure with diets, I had resigned myself to being big. I was diagnosed with high cholesterol, high blood pressure and diabetes. I went through a nasty divorce and added anti-depressants to my list of meds. 5 years ago I met the most wonderful man and we got married in 2013. At 51 I want to be healthy so that I can spend the rest of my life with him. It took me a long time to find him and I want it to last as long as possible. I am one week post-op and started my new eating habits mid January. I am already down 47 pounds as of this morning and looking forward to the journey!
  22. Day 6 and drove for the first time...completely off pain meds and felt great to go to the store for a short trip!

Did you have to cut ALL starches?

I guess it is all relative to what you want to achieve. If you can lose weight with counting calories then why surgery? The surgery will severely restrict the amounts of foods you can eat. Its quality over quantity. Protein is very important for healing and for feeling full. This is why you read all over the forum to eat your protein first, then your veggies and then and ONLY then a starch if you have room. If this journey is to be successful for you then yes you have to make changes. Doing what you did got you where you are. Your nutritionist knows this and they are not just trying to torture you. Hiding what you eat is symptomatic of eating disorders. You can post to vent but if you are asking for permission to cheat, eat what you want off the plan etc. then you will find plenty of people on here that will say go for it because they are doing the same. Doesn't mean its great advice but it will be what you want to hear. Somewhere inside you know to be truly successful you cannot eat cake and burgers and fries. Take a long, hard look at what you are doing and be honest with yourself. Then and only then can you hope for success with this. Its not easy making changes to a lifelong habit of poor eating, I know cos I am right there in it. But it IS possible. Good luck and hope you can turn things around!
