Pre-op diet for gastric sleeve.
ShrinkingPeach replied to mcraven83's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
The pre-op diet is certainly not fun but the hunger will pass. Around day 3 things will settle down and the routine begins. The eating schedule aspect continues after surgery so get used to it. lol Keep your mind on the prize and before you know it this part will be over. You may even lose a few pounds along the way! You've got this!! -
Lower medical costs following WLS
ShrinkingPeach replied to OKCPirate's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Interesting article. I know for me that I have fewer doctor visits so less copays, less prescriptions I am on and more productivity at work due to more energy. It is a win-win as far as I can see! -
2 pounds from 100 lost...what a ride!

serious question for fellow "veterans"
ShrinkingPeach replied to CowgirlJane's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
I agree that you are absolutely not irrelevant. All the wonderful veterans have been such an excellent inspiration and resource. I am more likely to reach out privately with a question than blast it in the open. NOT because my questions are unintelligent but because I rarely have them and I want legitimate advice. I appreciate the veterans but do agree there is a certain contingent on here that are looking for validation for bad choices. I am only 5 months post-op so I am certainly not a veteran by any means but I am a very educated person on the process. I don't sugar coat things and when I see someone making bad choices I say so. I obviously have a grasp on the right things to do as I have lost 95 pounds so far. I have dialed back how much time I spend here tremendously due to the fact that some posts make my blood boil and it just isn't worth it. I miss sharing my successes but in the long run I am less irritated. I have difficulty just shaking my head at those post-op posters wanting to know when they can return to their old eating habits. Those people are the reason the surgeries, no matter which one you have, are less than a 100% success rate. In closing for the veterans who continue to post and share your stories, this girl is grateful!! You are all very relevant it is just that everyone doesn't have the capacity to appreciate what you have to offer and that is their loss!! -

Waiting on Aetna to Approve (How long did you wait)
ShrinkingPeach replied to acyum2008's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I called Aetna once I knew it was all submitted and asked to speak to the pre-certification department. I explained that I knew all my info was submitted and was checking to see if they needed anything else. The squeaky wheel gets heard! Good luck! -
Waiting on Aetna to Approve (How long did you wait)
ShrinkingPeach replied to acyum2008's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Once all my paperwork was turned in it took 2-3 days for the approval. My doc's office caused a delay by taking forever to get it all turned in. -

Taking Prescription Pills after surgery
ShrinkingPeach replied to Remove All Doubt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Agreed that is a question for your surgeon...most likely you will take them the same as before but call to be sure. -
Nutritionist
ShrinkingPeach replied to LMolina1987's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Has been very helpful. I also see mine at post-op appts. I can email her anytime if I have a question. Good to have a partner in this with an education in nutrition, not just everything I read here. -
It may be the Protein shake, get one without dairy. There are plant based ones, Water ones more like juice, etc. Try with unsweetened almond milk etc. Make sure you stay hydrated as that can cause nausea also. Sip, sip, sip! Hang in there it will get better!

Diabetes after Sleeve
ShrinkingPeach replied to CJ Porter's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Diabetes management is amazing after surgery but not all are cleared by surgery or weight loss. For me, I was told to stop all meds (non-insulin dependent Type 2) day of surgery. Blood sugar has been stable for the 5 months since. I am, also in the normal cholesterol range and came off those meds at 3 months out. On a half dose of hbp med and soon to be off it as well. This is an amazing opportunity and the reason I did the surgery to be more healthy and that is definitely working!! -
So happy for you guys!!

How much weight did you lose after your tummy tuck?
ShrinkingPeach replied to Angie65's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Totally depends on how much they are removing. Will vary person to person. -
How invested are you in the idea of healthy weight loss?
ShrinkingPeach replied to skinnyrita's topic in Food and Nutrition
I, myself, h ave gotten many angry comments, some name calling and some downright nasty messages. When I disagree with someone, I always qualify with an "I statement". I don't tell someone what to do unless I am advising they ask their surgeon or nutritionist. I always preface my comments with "For me..." or "what I do is..." It doesn't always work though because for those who get so upset, I believe they are posting to get permission to do what they want to do anyway. There are a lot of you that I really pay close attention to what you say because you have your acts together and some I just shake my head and carry on. Those who speak the unfiltered truth are heroes lol They keep it real and don't hold back any punches. I am not at my goal weight but I have lost 94 pounds so far and I did my research before having my surgery. I am a pretty smart cookie and have learned more about nutrition through self-teaching than I ever knew my whole life. The experience here isn't always the most pleasant but that is only 10% of the time. The ones who have such meltdowns are the ones who screw up the averages for success in my opinion. Those I am learning to not try to help as they don't want my help. Now, for me, I try to eat fresh, non-processed food but of course I am not telling anyone else that is the way they have to do it. However, trying to eat the same as you did before surgery just less of it is insanity. For those in maintenance phases, who are successful, I am sure you are continuing your healthy eating habits you developed while getting to goal weight. Yes, I have had Wendy's chili. I just no longer add the double cheeseburger, large fries and top it off with a large soda or frosty. If I eat the whole small chili my sleeve hurts, so I don't. -
If there is a connection give it a chance. Don't miss out on a potentially great relationship. If things don't feel right or he doesn't make time for you then you have your answer. I married my long distance relationship and he moved to me. Good luck!!

Love that one, it is one of my fave's.

I started out on bariatric chewables but then switched to over the counter Vitamins. I never had a problem swallowing pills after surgery. Ask your support team, my nutritionist switched me.
