What serving sizes are you eating

I can eat 1/2 cup and I am full. Its a bit more if its soup but dense foods are 1/2 cup only.

    Sleeping after surgery

I didn't have a pulling sensation but I did have difficulty lying down. I used a pillow to shift me to one side for a bit. Sorry you re having discomfort!

Do any of you now or have you...

I don't think you are alone at all. I think we all have hopes but we also remember the failed attempts that came before. We have to have some faith in the plan put before us and be patient. The weight did not come overnight nor will it go overnight. The surgery is a tool along with changed eating habits for life and exercise. The after pics are great motivation but all our journeys are different and its all about what you put into it. The folks who share there success stories did not get there overnight and without effort also. Good luck!

    Protein

My nutritionist said between 60-80 for me. I think it may be a bit based on the nutritionist but also our starting weight. Protein makes you feel fuller for longer so there must be a goal in their mind. My husband who is at the correct weight asked my nutritionist for him and she said he needed 100g of protein.

    Heartburn/nausea/dehydration

I took prilosec for the first 14 days and never had acid problems. I also relied heavily on sf popsicles for Fluid for quite a few days. I couldn't drink cold at first but that went away. Hang in there and communicate with your surgeon's office. They have seen probably anything that can happen and can help you as needed. Good luck and feel better soon!!

    help with posture

If you have been overweight for some time the extra weight may have affected your posture. A general consult with a good chiropractor can't hurt. They should take initial xrays and discuss with you anything they see. Use your judgement if you think they have validity and can help. Also look to see if your posture has improved so far or if it is staying the same. Hope that helps! Good luck and congrats on the loss so far!

First rejection at a restaurant. So annoyed :[

I haven't used my card yet just because I haven't been to a restaurant that has a kids menu I could eat. I have had meals that lasted a week lol. If someone is rude to you for a request then do as you would for poor customer service and speak through your money. Good for you for not going back.

    Excess Skin

The surgeon who spoke to our support group said once you reach goal weight she likes to see stability for 6 months so you get the best results...not sure how other plastic surgeons feel. I am definitely going to have a bunch of loose skin and am already seeing some. I plan to get it all removed and it will probably make a big difference in the end result of my weight. Scars are not pretty but I want to be able to enjoy the results of my hard work.

    2 weeks post missing food

@@Squizzo the reason you can swallow a pill but have to chew your food is because the part of our stomach that was removed did the grinding up of our food. The pill will dissolve in your stomach. I can take pills whole and I am 3 weeks out today.

    Food day @ work...HELP

Make yourself a small plate of what you are allowed to have and then walk away. This is something yu will have to do for the rest of your life so do it today and be proud of yourself. If there is something you just HAVE to have then have one bite and leave it at that. Good luck! You can do it!!
  13. I also got the sleeve as my choice. My doctor agreed that was the best option for me. I didn't want the malabsorption issues. I didn't want thing re-routed and my stomach still in there. I didn't want the lap band and having to do those fills, much less the issues associated with it. I was sleeved 5-15-15 and am doing great. I eat about 1/2 cup at each meal and drink tons of fluids. I make sure I get my Protein in every day. I take Vitamins but I don't mind them, they are chewable. I am already off my medicines for my blood sugar and my blood sugar is stable so I am no longer diabetic. I have a ways to go but this has been a huge success for me. Good luck!!

    Pre op weight

I gained also right after surgery. Its also swelling from surgery that will make you gain. Hang in there it will start dropping after you heal. Good luck!!
  15. Only mu husband, my boss who is one of my best friends and another friend know. I just chose not to share because of the same type comments. My family, mainly my stepmother have made comments to me for years. Can't wait to be thinner than her, now thats some motivation! I only see her once a year due to distance so she hopefully will be shocked. lmao
  16. 3 weeks post-op today, losing in stops and starts. Feeling better with every pound gone!

    2 days Post-op

Congrats! I also didn't have any issues with the surgery! Welcome to the other side!!
  19. I fell on my treadmill and tore my left arm up pretty bad so I have to take a break from walking on it. Don't worry about a short break but maybe see if you can see your primary care before you see your surgeon again for advice about your meds? If its affecting you in how you feel. I had to contact my primary care before surgery because I lost some weight waiting for my date and with the pre-op diet I was on for 2 weeks I had to come off most of my blood sugar leds even before I had surgery. Your pcp and your surgeon should be a partnership! Good luck!!

    starting journey to life

Sure! Skim over what you don't want...lol I am 51 and have been overweight my entire life. My highest was around 350 but I don't know exactly cos I avoided the scale like the plague. I tried maybe 5 times over my life to lose and the best success I had was starving myself and walking 2 miles a day. I lost 80 pounds and then I hit a plateau that lasted for over a year so I gave up as I had every other time. My primary care doctors would ask occasionally if I had ever thought about gastric surgery but I would always say no. I honestly don't know why except it always scared me, the thought of surgery. Finally after going through a divorce that was a bad experience and then several years later meeting the best guy ever and getting married, my pcp again asked if I would consider going just for a consult. I scheduled my consult for January 29, 2015 and did tons of research on surgery and pre-op diets and post-op diets. My husband has Crohn's and had gone gluten-free the year before and was also doing a paleo diet which is basically high Protein and low carb. By the time I went for my consult I had changed my eating habits for 2 weeks to the high protein and low carb options. I was drinking Protein shakes and trying different things. I had lost 9 pounds in 2 weeks and wasn't really as hungry as I had been in the past. I was eating about 1000 calories per day and feeling pretty good. I had decided I really wanted the sleeve because I had some Vitamin deficiencies already and I didn't want added issues with bypass. I didn't want a foreign body with the lap band nor did I want to have to pay for adjustments to it. My consult day came and I saw the surgeon who agreed the sleeve would be great for me because he said they were not doing as many lap bands anymore and he said that I had been somewhat successful on diets in the past so he had no reason to think I wouldn't be with the sleeve. I had to meet some requirements for my insurance company which were a letter from my pcp stating that she thought I needed the surgery and the co-morbidities I had, a psych evaluation (to show I was stable and would be able to handle the changes and the issues with surgery), an upper GI, an EKG, bloodwork and notes from my doctor showing a supervised weight loss plan for at least 6 months (3 of them being consecutive). I got it all done and my pcp provided the visit notes showing where I had even tried phentermine but had only lost about 15 pounds because I couldn't take a whole pill without feeling like I was strung out on caffeine...lol It took a bit but I finally got my surgery date of 5-15-15! I had to do a 14 day pre-op diet that was eating every 2 hours- sf yogurt, Protein shake, gatorade, sf applesauce, sf Jello, broth. The diet is to shrink your liver making it safer for surgery since your stmach is behind it. Not fun but after day 3 I really wasn't hungry anymore. I knew it was temporary and my surgery was coming! I was sleeved 5-15-15 llaprascopically as an outpatient. My surgery was at 7:30am. I was told to arrive at 5:30am and they had me change, did my IV, gave me a pill for nausea with 1 ounce of Water. I went to surgery and woke up in recovery. I had no nausea and no gas pains as I had heard many do. They gave me pain meds and ice chips. The ice chips were the best thing ever lol I came back to pre-op a bit later where my husband was waiting for me. I got to have a popsicle and I couldn't even finish it lol. I was told that I needed to walk and pee before I could go home. My husband helped me by pulling my IV pole and walking with me but I walked all the way around the halls. I stopped by the bathroom and peed and the nurse heard me when I came out and said okay lets get that IV out and you can go home. I had already filled my pain meds and my nausea meds. The pain med was liquid so easy to take. I took it for about 3 days and didn't need it anymore. I had also had a hernia repair when they got in there for surgery they discovered it. I was up and walking same day I would just get tired. So here I am 20 days post-op and I have lost 55 pounds including what I lost on the pre-op diet. I am walking on a treadmill now and building back up to walking longer and farther. I also attend support group at the hospital because its free and I get to talk with people pre-op to 6 years+ post op and learn from them as well as share. The ONLY regret I have is that I didn't do it sooner but I know it happened when it was supposed to. My husband and I have been married for 2 years and I may have found him late in life but I want to spend as much time with him as I can. This surgery is making that possible. I still have lots to lose but I know now that I can do it with this tool. If you want to know anything else just let me know!

    jealousy

It comes from inside them and its not your fault. They are maybe envious, scared your relationship with them will change, scared your personality will change, etc. Just be yourself and if they don't want to Celebrate with you, we will!!

    First appointment

I remember those days and nights when I couldn't shut my brain off lol. The night before surgery my hubby told me I HAD to go to bed. I tried to convince him I would sleep under anesthesia lol Good luck and things are pretty good here on the other side!

    Spouse involvement

My husband was supportive all the way and still is. When I told him that I was thinking about doing the surgery he said, "Good, I found you so late in life I want a long time with you." He went with me to my consult and my first nutritionist visit (they were the same day). I chose to attend support group meetings before and since, he has gone to every one. When I was doing my research and compiling recipes for after surgery he said "this is great cos I want to eat healthier also and it will keep me on track" He already eats well and goes to the gym every day. He bought me a smoothie blender for my Protein shakes, and he bought us a treadmill for home. He helps me do my measurements and celebrates every pound I lose in a truly happy way not in a way that makes me feel bad about having that pound in the first place. He points out changes as he sees them because its hard for me to see them. I couldn't ask for a better husband and partner in everything.
