    Anxious and Waitig

Hello and welcome Linda. My name is Cindy and I had sleeve surgery May 15th. When I started the journey I was 331 pounds in January of 2015. I started eating higher Protein and lower carb in anticipation of the surgery and weighed 286 on surgery day. I am now 271...a total loss of 60 pounds. I still have more to go but for the first time in my life I think I've got this. Message me if you wish to talk.

Congrats and way to go!! Keep up the great work!

    First Appointment Questions

Ask questions about your procedure and expectations of your surgeon. Ask questions about pre- and post-op diets of your nutritionist. The psych will ask YOU the questions lol.

    exercise - when to start?

Agree with @Bufflehead. Listen to your medical team. At this point you should be moving around. Sounds like you may be overdoing it a bit, but if you feel fine then definitely take rest breaks. I wasn't allowed to bend down until 2 weeks out. Just stroll around to get moving and add a bit more time when you feel ready. You are still healing at this point and you need the rest also to heal. Good luck!!

    Pre-surgical liquid diet

Agree with @JamieLogical. By the end of my 2 week pre-op diet I didn't even want to drink or eat the sf Jello. I was pretty tired and weak. Makes sense with drastically reduced intake and calories. The end result will be worth it. Hang in there!!

    Having Hot Flashes

I am running warm also. I am one month post-op and it started about a week ago. Figured it was something to do with my body adjusting. Small price to pay for losing 60 pounds...lol
  8. First visit with the PCP today, a month out from surgery. Off BS meds immediately after surgery and she is reducing my HBP meds. Did bloodwork to check cholesterol...will see when results come in. Feeling great!

How do you relieve the too-full feeling?

You just hav to wait it out, then you learn and measure going forward. You don't want to overeat and stretch your sleeve.
  10. ShrinkingPeach

How accurate is your calorie counting?

Once I have something, it is on my list in MFP. I am not obsessive about it yet but who knows how I will feel at 6 weeks out and I can begin introducing more foods. I agree with @@Babbs, as long as I am losing and I can't eat very much at this point anyway. I do keep a close eye on fluids and my Protein daily.
  11. I agree with your points also. What an inappropriate comment to make. The fact she felt it was okay to say makes a statement in itself. What if she says that to someone who DOES have AIDS? Omg, I can't imagine. You look beautiful and normal. I know that you know that, but that's my two cents. I agree that we have a distorted view of normal weight, maybe she is just jealous of your success. I have seen some folks who have lost a lot of weight when I had not seen them in a long time and it CAN be a bit startling when they don't look like they did when you saw them last, but the same would be true if my red hair were suddenly blonde when you saw me next. It's still me. People these days are so desensitized by things they can say on the internet while hidden in the safety of their homes or offices, I swear it is filtering into real live conversations. And then some people just have no manners or filters. Just know you are healthy, look amazing and that pic is an inspiration to us all fighting to get there.
  12. Get back to basics and log everything that goes in your mouth. Most times, from what I have read, we stop measuring and get off track. When we log we find out that we are eating more than we think. Do a spot check and measure/log for a week and see if its quantity or quality. Make sure you are drinking your fluids and still exercising regularly. Agree with@@Stevehud, there are not any statistics like 75% that I have seen cos the sleeve is too new.

    Anyone try this

Did it have fizz? Maybe that upset your tummy. Maybe too much too fast cos of the sugar in it?

    Scared Skinny?

I was also a bit nervous about the process and how it all works. Would I be successful? Do research and gather information to gain knowledge about the process. Look for ideas of what to eat for all stages, including alternative, healthy ways to have your favorites. Knowledge is power and might just calm those butterflies. It helped me to know what was going to happen both with surgery and eating after. Good luck!!!

    What’s the Plan, Stan?

Excellent article. I really do find I do best when I pre-plan. When traveling I already have in mind what I can get and where so that I stay on plan.

    What is your cocktail?

My surgeon's office has you get a starter kit from them. It is Bariatric Advantage Vitamins and they are all chewable. I take 2 Multivitamins a day, 4 chewable Calcium citrates and a chewable Iron pill. Twice a week I take a sublingual B-12.
  19. You have gotten some excellent advice above...also for me I am aware of what my goal is to lose. The total is really 196 pounds but that is an overwhelming number. I am taking it in bite size (pun intended) pieces. I am 4 weeks post op and taking it 10 pounds at a time. I know the stats on how much excess weight you can lose by the year mark and I am trying hard to take advantage of this "honeymoon" period. I know the loss will continue after if a bit slower. I have been this way my whole life so I don't expect it to go away overnight. Every day and every pound I lose is exciting and I feel better than I have in years! You can do this, ask for help if you need to. You will be amazed what you can accomplish! Good luck and keep us posted!! We are here for you!

    Big Daddy Burger!

OMG I saw that Great american Thickburger yesterday. We were driving and my stepson of 14 got it. I got the grilled chicken sandwich naked and ate the grilled chicken only and even then couldn't eat the whole piece. When I think back to the things I have eaten in my past I just want to hang my head. We have a choice what we eat and we make some pretty bad choices all because its out there. If they build it we will come mentality. I try hard not to judge others because they are not where I am nor did they make the decision I made. To each their own. Now if I hear them crab about their weight then I just might say something...lol Like my aunt is so proud of herself because she joined a gym and she tells me she is going 5 days a week, then she posts on friday about her experience at McDonalds getting her Big Mac meal...smh I kept my lip zipped tho...its her decision and I don't want to be that crazy person who feels the need to tell people what to do or how to lose. It as taken me all my life to get here so I am certainly not the expert on surgery or weight loss.
  22. My nutritionist said the bubbles will stretch your stomach, I know that is a hotly debated topic. She also said the bubbles can cause nausea, Why risk it? And agree with @@Bufflehead, is it worth the carbs and calories?

    Diabetes and the Sleeve

With pre-op dieting I lost a bit of weight before surgery and I was off my Victoza and down to one 10mg pill of Glipizide. The day of surgery I was told to stop all BS meds. My BS has not been above 123 since. the lowest it has been is 89. I will contonue to check it as I lose to see how it is affected but I am off those pills. I was sleeved on May 15, 2015

    Arbonne Protein shakes

Haven't tried then but they look a bit high in sugar and carbs. At only 20 grams of Protein there are better shakes out there.

Day 6 after sleeve - am I OK?

Give yourself a break, you just had major surgery. Yes you are going to be tired for a while. You are still healing for a month or longer. Just try to do a bit more each day and improve. Get your fluids in, dehydration will make you tired. Also if you are sleeved, the part of your stomach that caused hunger is gone. If you are not already ask about if you should take an antacid for a bit. Stomach acid makes you think you are hungry...the hunger is in your head. Follow your plan and eat by the clock, not when you think you are hungry.
