Surgery tomorrow
ShrinkingPeach replied to Debbie623's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good luck to you all and yes the post-op recovery seems to be all over the place. Mine was easy breezy. Remember to sip, sip, sip. You won't be able to get much in but every day gets better so stay at it. Focus on liquids first then try to get your Protein in. You will still be healing so relax and work at it every day. -
Lips and mouth sores
ShrinkingPeach replied to cooperjack's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It "could be" an allergic reaction but that likely would not be only in your mouth? Dehydration can cause those symptoms. You need to call your surgeon's office for the best advice. Good luck! -
Waiting for a surgery date!
ShrinkingPeach replied to laceygorrell's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Call and ask for the Practice Admin, if you have to leave a voice mail then leave a concise but step by step as to why you are upset and that you expect a call back before end of business day. If you do not get a call back I would drive up there the next morning and ask to see him/her. Whether you are self-pay or using insurance they are getting paid for a service and you deserve excellent customer service. What if you needed help with a post-op question??? -
Awesome! Congrats!

Headaches and Nausea
ShrinkingPeach replied to Jay05's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
38 days post-op here. No headaches, no nausea, yes tiredness ( I had major surgery) but that is getting better all the time, and no hair thinning yet. I understand the hair thinning happens beginning month 3 or so. I am also told it is just extra shedding, I have very thick hair so not too worried about it, and it comes back so it isn't permanent. I would rather lose to my goal weight than have thick hair. lol Good luck! -
Hi Jazzy, did they give you a specific diet to follow or are you doing it on your own?

Started diet today - I'm dying
ShrinkingPeach replied to RNsleever715's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your title also made me laugh. You've got this. Day 3 it really does get better, it did for me too. Keep your eyes on the prize and know that after surgery you won't even be able to eat a full meal, you will look back amazed! Good luck! -
Hi and welcome. I was fortunate to have coverage but I have seen many, many success stories on here from Mexico. Sounds like you have dome your research and are educated on the subject. Good luck on this wonderful journey and keep us posted on your story!

One week out from surgery...
ShrinkingPeach replied to incredibleshrinkingnurse's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Congrats on the weight lost so far! You will do amazing if you stick to the plan. Protein first of course and get all your fluids in. Beware the 3 week stall, it always happens but inches still come off. If you haven't already do your measurements so you can see it happening when the scale doesn't move. Good luck! -
Hi! I'm new to this but I'm ready for this!
ShrinkingPeach replied to Running2theSleeve's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Rhonda and welcome. As @@Babbs said it does take work and commitment. We have all been there and some of us are still working at it and new to it. As far as insurance sometimes they will also consider your BMI along with family history. You can contact your insurance yourself and ask for a copy of your coverage to see what they need to see. This may put your mind at ease or at least give you a heads up to find info for them. Go ahead now and start moving yourself to a higher protein, lower carb lifestyle. Then it is not a shock to your brain after surgery when those bad eating habits are all gone at once. Good luck!! -
Went to the movies and skipped the popcorn. Snuck in a Vitamin Water zero and a protein bar.
-
LOL. I do that all the time now. Either a protein bar or a handful of nuts and my own water of course.

So lost.....
ShrinkingPeach replied to BentleyConnorMom's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I haven't experienced that yet but you are not alone. I have read your story a few times on here and what I have seen are recommendations to go back to basics. Some do their pre-op diet again for a few days to tighten things up, some do the 5 day pouch test and some just go back to measuring and planning all meals. First realize you are human and this is a process. We are not perfect and the biggest thing at this point is you have identified the problem. It IS fixable. Good luck and start over before you gain much back and have to re-lose it! -
Drinking through a straw
ShrinkingPeach replied to vickylyn1973's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My nutritionist said that straws can introduce air into the stomach which can stretch the sleeve or create nausea. She recommended waiting til 2-3 months out. I waited until 5 weeks out and then tried the straw. I get no nausea and no more air than I did drinking without it. I am better able to get my fluids in with a straw than without so for me it worked out. Good luck! -
Still in the losing weight phase and early on, but went to Goodwill looking for a couple tshirts to get me by for a bit and everything in the plus size section was too big...now that has NEVER happened to me before. I am not small enough for misses but plus is too big...that is so huge for me!

HELP! what are the amounts of things you are suppose to eat post op?
ShrinkingPeach replied to tiarowley's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Seriously were you not given information from your nutritionist? I am consistently surprised at this question. I see it all the time asking what to eat and when. If you do not have printed material from your surgeon or the nutritionist he/she works with then request some. you should be following a plan that works. Everyone is different and you will get advice on a dozen different plans on here and you could mix them all up. For the best results follow what your surgeon recommends. -
Only 40 lbs left, but struggling... Ideas please
ShrinkingPeach replied to TeacherMommy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At this point you may need to go back to measuring your foods again. As time goes on some stop and the amounts increase. Just a thought...good luck! -
HUNGER - is it really reduced?
ShrinkingPeach replied to bhopeful's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It truly is different for each person. That is the one thing you can count on with this journey, each one is different. For me the hunger is gone but for some the hunger is therefrom day one. The part of the stomach removed is where grehlin is produced, that is the enzyme that causes hunger but sometimes it is not ALL gone. The good news is even if you are hungry, you can drink or eat a small portion when appropriate and take care of it. Find something to do to distract you. Pay attention to see if you are "hungry" to old patterns like watching tv. For me I love not being able to eat much at a time, I am only 5 weeks out at this point but it is working and I am grateful for that! Good luck! -
For me, I have been overweight all my life and had minimal success with dieting over the years but would always gain the pounds back and then some. The difference now is I have a tool, my sleeve keeps me from overeating. I have a new way of eating FOR LIFE. I follow a high Protein and low carb lifestyle. I eat my protein first, then my non-starchy veggie and I am done. I don't eat sugars, high fat, junk foods or sodas. It works because I am not able to eat as much so no overeating. It works because I have to focus and pre-plan what I will eat. It works because I do good to get in 600 calories a day at this point instead of 1600. Heck I was probably eating 2200 before surgery. It works because this is not a diet but a life change. It works because it isn't a temporary eating change and when I m done I won't stop but will continue to eat the same for the rest of my life. I started eating high protein and low carb at my consult and lost 45 pounds prior to surgery and have lost 18 pounds in the 5 weeks following surgery, I feel better than any diet I ever did. I have energy, I feel happy, I am not tired or starving. I never feel hungry. I don't sit and snack like I used to. It is amazing! Good luck whatever you decide!

Pre-op diet vs post-op diet
ShrinkingPeach replied to roseluv3's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For me, I can think of food but I know that I wouldn't be able to eat much so I really plan what to eat so I get the nutrition I need. I made a mental switch when I decided to do this surgery that the things I ate before were not my friends. They got me to the point I was at and things needed to change. Sure I miss some foods but I can also find a way to have a healthier option if I really want it. I would rather get healthy and lose weight than eat junk. I don't really get hungry but I am also only 5 weeks post-op so who knows what may come. Good luck! -
Tomorrow's the Day......
ShrinkingPeach replied to natnat919's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I think everyone feels the same way...that we will be the one that doesn't lose. You are going to lose so just follow the plan. I was very fortunate that I had no gas pains or nausea after surgery but if you do, ask for meds. Getting up to walk really does help. Don't take a bunch of stuff to the hospital because you won't need it. DO take a pillow for the ride home. The surgery was not painful at all for me, I was tender and I moved slowly for a week but it really was fine. You may come home weighing more due to swelling and fluids, that will drop back off. Don't obsess over the scale if you can and don't weigh every day. You are about to embark on a great ride to a healthier you. Congrats and you've got this!! -
Those comments were not about you but about her. In reality how many people could she have spoken to that would have said they regretted their surgery? Maybe she is envious, maybe she is scared for you, who knows what she is thinking. No matter what hold your head high and know that you have made a decision to be healthy. That is more important than her comments and lack of support. Good luck with your journey and glad your husband is supportive. You will do great!

Question: when can you eat protein bars?
ShrinkingPeach replied to cindyt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Agree with above comments. I would think 6 weeks out is fine as you are starting to add back in regular foods. As usual just chew well. Quest also makes great bars that are low in sugar and higher Protein. Premier Protein is another good one. It is good to have a variety of choices! -
Im on pureed foods finally
ShrinkingPeach replied to LynRey70's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Use EVOO and very little of it. Scramble the egg and small bites. If you want you can scramble it with a bit of cottage cheese and it ups the Protein content. Don't be surprised if you cannot eat the whole egg...I ate 3/4 of my first egg and was stuffed. lol -
Tired of being fat!
ShrinkingPeach replied to scarlep's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It will be here before you know it. Use the time to research pre-op and post-op eating. Get prepared. You have made an amazing decision for your health and you are already on the path to a better you. Post your successes here often. you will have great support!! Good luck!! -
Don't know where to start for July 20th surgery
ShrinkingPeach replied to valcatlett4's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Usually your nutritionist gives you a diet plan. Have you met with them yet? Try sample sizes of shakes as for some their taste changes after surgery. You can get some idea of what you might like now. For your pre-op meals you want good Protein in meats and non-starchy veggies. Watch portion sizes. Drink as much Water as you can, get at least 64 ounces of Fluid in a day. There is a video on how to make your shake not foamy on you tube...look for it. Your surgeons office should also tell you what Vitamins to take. Ask them for the plan.
