    11 Weeks post op Frenzy!

Is the vomiting from eating too fast? Make sure to eat slowly and chew really well. Protein first then veggies. Quinoa and leafy vegetables would be hard to digest at this point.

    Pre OP liquid diet

Depends on your surgical team. They should give you a copy of your plan. If you wish to know now contact them for a copy. There are as many plans as there are offices.

    Why sleeve and not bypass?

I did my research prior to consult and wanted the sleeve. I didn't want the malabsorption of Vitamins and just wanted the stomach portion removed permanently. My surgeon asked what I wanted and he agreed the sleeve was best. It has worked wonderfully so far! No matter the opinions you get, do what is right for you.

    Hi, I'm new

As everyone said the stall(s) will happen, take your measurements once a month so you see the progress even when the scale doesn't move the inches will! Take pictures! Write in a journal so you can look back at where you came from. All the above are great advice! Welcome!!!!!!
  10. I only do a Protein shake for Breakfast for convenience. I get the rest of my protein from foods.

    Preop diet... take 2

Some of that may be stress eating. Try to stay busy and just eat or drink on schedule. Good luck and fingers crossed!

    Pre-surgery Jitters

It is normal to have jitters, I did. I agree that you should find things to do that keep you busy. Make sure everything is in place so you are not stressed about household things after surgery and you can relax and recuperate. That's the thing about Christmas, it WILL come around next year too. Don't worry about what you can't have but focus on what you are giving yourself. Enjoy your family and have great conversations not centered around food. Sit back and truly take it all in and be thankful for the best Christmas present ever. Good luck!!

so, is this what it feels like to be just... normal?

What a lovely post and so timely for me. I was at my husbands office party this past saturday. I have been overweight my whole life and at 103 pounds down I am struggling to see my weight loss. They had a photo booth and we took a photo together (you get a printed strip of 3 poses). I could see that I looked different but it was when some of his co-workers wanted a group shot that I got a shock. I was smaller than some of the women in the photo. I have noticed I fit places where I didn't before. I have seen my sizes of clothing change. I notice that people treat me differently. I notice that I no longer get "the look". I could go on and on, but the physical vision of myself in the mirror remains the fat girl. Congrats on your epiphany and than you for sharing, this really hit home for me!

    So Hungry!

Agreed that it is probably stomach acid. If you feel the need to chew ice or sf popsicles are a good option. I also found that my sleeve makes more noise when digesting foods now. The part of the stomach that grinds up your food is now gone so noises will be more common, they don't necessarily mean you are hungry. Good luck!

A serious question for the veterans

Thanks @@Babbs for the link to your thread. I like the idea of taking my pic with other people to see the difference. It is crazy how our brains work isn't it?
  18. Okay here goes. I have been overweight all of my life. This surgery has given me something I was never able to do on my own. So far I have lost 103 pounds with about 75 more to go. My question is this: When does the brain see the real me and not the old me? I know I no longer wear a 4x but an XL. I no longer wear size 32 pants but an 18. When I look in the mirror I see lots of extra skin but in my head I am still the fat girl. Did you do anything different to help you see the new you? Is there anything that helps? Thanks for any words of advice you can give! Cindy

    Pre-Op LSD

I don't think there is a goal for a specific amount to shrink. The goal is to shrink as much as they think needed for a safe surgery. Just stick to the plan and your surgery will happen, Good Luck!!

    Bad food cravings, any suggestions?

Foods that put you at risk of overeating need to be reconsidered. Is it worth the calories and why do you want them? It may be that you are clinging to that comfort food that got you through something before. If we are eating to live and no longer living to eat then it should be easier to just say no to foods that are not good for us. There are alternative pastas out there made from veggies so at least they are a better choice but make no mistake, they are not low carb. Not judging just an observation, in the end it is your life alone and your decision what you eat. Good luck!

    Sizing down in clothes

I also find that I lose the weight faster in some areas than others. My waist is the last to change as I go and this makes the sizing a bit different. I go down a size and it will be lose in my legs but tight in the waist for example. This crazy post-op life!

    FINALLY APPROVED!

Being nervous is perfectly normal. I also felt going into this like what if it doesn't work? Yes, we can fail if we don't change our brains but you are going to have a wonderful new tool to help you along the way. Listen to your nutritionist, get creative so meals are not boring but eat for nutrition not for social time or for enjoyment and comfort. Research, research, research! Get help if you need to! We are all here for you! What an exciting Christmas present to yourself, the best one ever! Good luck! You've got this!
  23. So the peach has shrunken a bit, made it to 100 pounds down and and it through Thanksgiving! Had to have gallbladder surgery on the 19th so have been a bit tired. Been absent for a bit and thought I would drop in for an update.

Thank you ladies! And yes, I have decided there is nothing I cannot do as every day I must make good choices. Good to know I can even when temptation is at its highest. In response, yes I haven't skipped a beat without my gallbladder. Just some discomfort but I am doing great and continuing to lose. The nice thing )if there is one lol) is that our WLS dietary changes are the same as for gallbladder surgery so no major changes on that front!

3 weeks post op - serious fatigue

Agree with all the above comments. Everyone is different and recovery time is relative. Remember this is still major surgery and recovery time is to be expected. For me, I was off pain meds and up and driving on day 5 but would tire out easily. Do a little more each day and soon you will look back and see you are back to normal. Then with the weight loss you will gain even more energy!
