    No Wonder I Wasn’t Skinny!

OMG, just thinking about the things my mom would cook. She really didn't know any better and my whole family is overweight. Sausage gravy and biscuits Fried chicken Mashed potatoes with butter and real mayonnaise in them Fried Okra Green Beans with fat back in them (yes a southern thing) Corn on the cob (with butter of course) Fried cube steak with gravy Cakes, Cookies, cheesecakes, LIttle Debbie cakes, twinkies Homemade biscuits made with flour milk and LARD, did I mention I grew up and still live in the south? lol Hamburger Helper My brother who is 11 years younger than me ate Chef Boyardee every meal for lunch and dinner. I never got the whole nutrition thing cos that wasn't what I ate at home. I am learning a whole new way of eating with my sleeve. My mom probably never knew a thing about nutrition, she didn't even graduate high school. She also did the best she could. We live and learn. Wow those are some memories I hadn't thought about in a long time.

Surgery cancelled 4 days prior...I'm upset

So sorry to hear about your ankle and the delay in your surgery. I agree with the above advice to use this time to practice your new eating habits and lose what you can prior to surgery. Get that xray done to see how long you will have to wait and work toward getting that boot off when you can. Your surgery WILL happen. everything happens for a reason and your time will come. Hang in there! Oh and vent away! We are here to listen!

How Do You Cope With the Waiting!

I started a journal early on to help me vent and document how I felt knowing I could look back later and see what I went through to get where I am. I researched recipes and made lists of things I wanted to try after I could eat again. I researched Snacks and things I could take to work for lunch so I could plan ahead and make better decisions. I got things together, bento boxes for lunch, a blender for making Protein shakes, etc. I got things in order and laundry done etc so I could rest and relax when I came home. Good luck!!

    "Good Eats"

At 4 weeks I was still on soft food. I was eating deli turkey and deli chicken, cooked veggies, canned frit in juice, one Protein shake a day, sf popsicles, Peanut Butter, triscuits, wheat thins, eggs, 2% cheese. It was awesome after being on a pre-op diet and then Protein shakes post-op.

    Food before surgery

If you were told it was okay to have lean meat and you ate lean meat, what is the problem?

    Hopeless

Ummm...okay I will bite. More information. What do you eat? How much do you drink? How much do you exercise and what type of exercise?

    NSV!

Congrats on your success so far! Keep up the good work!!!
  8. Going to Six Flags here in Atlanta next summer and ride every roller coaster with my hubby's 14 year old son! Every time I go down a size, I buy a shirt at Good will or off the clearance rack in the next size down. I watch til I can fit it. It motivates me to get into it!
  9. @@Chrystee, this was a pre-op person who also finally admitted to me she was drinking soda and eating cake. Yes you can send your body into starvation mode and have to increase calories but this wasn't a case of that. This was a case of just flat out misrepresenting herself and I have no idea what she was hoping to achieve with her eating choices and the posts here.

I really love these forums because...

Hello @ and welcome! Glad to meet you and looking forward to your posts. I love this forum and I typically tell it like it is. Sometimes my head wants to explode at what I read but hey everyone's journey is their own. My husband says you can lead a horse to Water but you can't drown him. I also laugh at some posts I see and I love the veteran's who are quick to set someone straight with some tough love. Keep posting and let us know how you are doing!

Protein for diabetic having the sleeve...

I used premier Protein ready to drink and Jay Robb protein powders. I mix my Protein Powder with unsweetened almond milk. Look for protein powder that is whey protein isolate and less than 10g of sugar per serving. I am also now no longer diabetic after the surgery and am off all medications. Good luck!

    Help with Pre-Op Liquid Diet

Surprisingly it wasn't that bad. I had to do 14 days. By the middle of the first week I just didn't care anymore because I could only eat certain things. SF popsicles, broth and sf Jello got me through. I was losing pounds and that was exciting...every day was a day closer to surgery and I had bigger things to think about. Good luck!

    SURGERY TOMORROW!

I will say what I always do. Follow your plan not anyone else's. Focus on fluids at first, stay hydrated. Take your measurements now, you will be glad you did for when the scale isn't moving. I re-measure once a month and the inches are coming off even when the scale isn't moving. Allow yourself time to heal, realize that even though you feel like you have recovered it takes the stomach a couple months to truly heal. You will have days when you are tired, get rest. You will have days when you don't want to eat, give your body fuel. Keep us posted on your progress, we are here for you! Good luck!!
  14. If you are following your plan there is nothing to be concerned about. I weigh daily sometimes but only count my weekly weigh in which for me is sunday morning. Good luck!! Hang in there!
  15. Just hang in there...that's the best advice. When in your life have you ever lost 2 pounds a day? You are still healing and the weight loss will come but in time. Vent away but e more days is not so long. You may also be in the 3 week stall so I would recommend at this early stage to take your measurements. Stalls are common and will happen from time to time you have those measurements and you take them monthly, you WILL see change even when the scale isn't moving. Don't become obsessed with the scale, hard to do but you can do it. Good luck!

    Tummy Tuck Questions

Haven't had it yet cos I have a long way to go but I would imagine it depends on how much they are removing. For me, I will have a true apron to remove when it is time. Good luck!

    Just starting pre op.

I was cath'd but they did it after I was out and it was gone when I woke up. I read all the stories also about gas pains, etc. I didn't have any of those things, no gas, no nausea! Don't worry they will take great care of you. Good luck!! Make sure to keep us posted on your progress!

    Am I doing this right?

I would also add to take your measurements if you haven't already. Even when we are stalled inches are coming off. We focus so much on the scale and it frustrates us. I am thankful I took my measurements before surgery because when I stall I can still see changes. Good luck!!

    Surgery on Thursday!

Premier Protein ready to drink. Jay Robb for Protein powder. Good luck!
  20. Premier Protein for me also. I like Jay Robb powder also that I get at The Vitamin Shoppe. Just a side note, you cannot absorb more than 30g of protein at a time so if you do a higher content one then split up the drink into two sessions.
  21. Congrats on your success! Thank you for sharing!

What is one thing you use the most post-op

@@DreamWeaver44 it is from target...I wanted one powerful enough to crush ice. I love it and use it every day. http://www.target.com/p/bella-rocket-extract-pro-plus-blender/-/A-16475097#prodSlot=medium_1_4&term=blender
  23. Agreed, you should call your surgeon's answering service for an after hours call. They may tell you to go to the ER anyway but I agree that you should not wait.
  24. I would think that anyone who has had the surgery and gotten close to or met their goal weight is a veteran/success. I still read voraciously and give feedback and advice where I can and I am only 7 weeks postop. I did TONS of research and have a notebook filled with info from bariatric centers across the USA. I have sites bookmarked with low carb recipes and did my research on how to make meals that taste good and yet have lower calories. I never give advice unless it is something I have experience with or I have seem a general consensus on from the veterans on here. I shake my head when someone asks for justification to do something and someone who hasn't even had surgery yet says sure go ahead. You ladies that are the tough love veterans make my day when I read some of your answers. It makes me smile!
  25. I struggled at first to drink but then it got easy. I also don't have issues with having to chew like crazy. Everyone's journey is different and sounds like you are doing great!
