What is your daily food intake?

That is normal intake for where you are. I am a bit over 8 weeks post op and depending on the day I am around 600-700 calories. You are doing fine!
  2. And the hair shedding has begun...good thing I have really thick hair lol

The biotin CAN make the hair grow back faster but it will not prevent hair shedding. I am told by my NUT that this just happens as the body adjusts to the suddenly lower calorie intake and the rapid weight loss. I make sure I get all my protein in every day which is all you can really do. Some people don't experience the shedding at all and some really do. I am a heavy shedder anyway so I knew this would begin for me at some point. I would rather be skinny than have every strand of hair I currently have. lol I know I will come through this fine, just don't want any clogged drains and vacuums! I already have two dogs that shed lol

Thanks Ladies for this info. I will just have to wait and see what happens when I get to that point. But at least now I know that it might happen and why. I hope you both get hair back and in the way you like it. I love curly hair and have to curl it each night. So if I did lose any and it came back curly that would be a nice surprise for me. You are both doing great with weight loss. I go tomorrow for my 1 month weigh in of 6 months of the supervised diet. I hope the DR is happy with my weight loss.

It's amazing how my husband sees me..

@@MIMISAN said it. There are lots of reasons he may be resistant. Talk it through with him and explain if you get healthier you will be with him for a much longer time. You can still go to eat out, you will have leftovers and make better choices. You need his support! Good luck!

    Just starting this process

For me I was sleeved and my Diabetes was gone next day, off both meds as of surgery and blood sugar is stable and low. I have read may times here of GERD being an issue after the sleeve. Do what is right for you. Good luck!

    Preop newbie still

Congrats on not having to do the pre-op diet. I did 14 days but it wasn't really bad and I lost weight on it. Good luck with your procedure and keep us posted on your progress!

When can I eat a sandwich?

I eat deconstructed sandwiches also. I just don't want the extra calories and carbs of bread. Also I was told by my nut that some folks have issues with bread becoming a ball of dough causing pain in the sleeve. I don't want to even find out if I am one of those people.

    Getting Real

I took 11 days off but I was ready to get back after 5 days. I was bored to death at home and ready to get out. I was off pain meds and driving at that point. I still took the time off that I had asked for but I really could have gone back.

    New life Atlanta

I haven't had that situation but think of all the money you will save on food now! Welcome and good luck! I am also in Metro Atlanta!
  11. Glad you found another surgeon! Sounds like the one you had was a real jerk and you need someone to be on your team! Good luck with the new doc!!

what is your favorite inspirational quote

DISCIPLINE- the difference between what you want and what you want right now. I think of that often when making food choices or when I have head hunger.
  13. food funerals are just pounds you have to lose AGAIN. Change your eating habits to high Protein and low carb now, less shock to your system for later. The less weight you have going into surgery the better and the closer you are to your goal so why wait? Don't worry about weight lost before surgery, it doesn't matter if it "counts"...it is still weight you need to lose. Stop the caffeine now, get rid of sugars and sweets now, stop fried foods now. Start drinking 64+ ounces of Water or sf, non-carbonated fluids. More if you can! Good luck!
  14. So what did your surgeon say was the reason for the failure?

How can I get in all my protein?

At 3 weeks I was on soft foods. I drank 1 Protein shake a day and the rest was Water. So I was getting in about 60 g of protein a day and maybe around 50 ounces of water at that point. Your Protein Shake is not as high as it could be to help you and it has sugar alcohols in it as well as sugar. Premier Protein has a ready to drink that has 30g of protein and that is half your day's goal. If you just can't drink those for whatever reason, then try some others. Isopure makes a ready to drink carb zero that has 40 g protein in it. It is a large bottle but you can sip on it throughout the day and add water to complete your ounces. In time you will be able to consume more and your protein won't come from shakes/drinks and more from food. Your tummy is still healing and swollen, hang in there!

    Calorie Intake

It makes total sense to fear an increase in calories. We have all overeaten our whole lives and now we are losing and someone says eat more. When have you heard that ...EVER? Did he also tell you what to increase your Protein to? If not speak to your nutritionist to map out a plan to increase your calorie intake wile preserving the weight loss. Good luck!!

Had to put this in as a success.

    Slowly Gaining/ Not Losing

If you are on plan and it sounds like you are, maybe it is the exercise and muscle building. Take measurements to see instead of only gauging by the scale. Are your clothes fitting fitting different? Make sure you are also getting in 64+ ounces of Fluid a day.

How Do You Get Over the Guilt?

I don't have any guilt but I will say I didn't do the surgery for years and years. Someone asked me why and after thinking about it long and hard I have come to realize I was afraid to succeed. I was hiding behind my weight and trying to be invisible and now I am losing the weight and gaining confidence I am grateful for the surgery and the health it is bringing. Hope that makes sense.

    Can't or Won't

Often I hear or read the following statements: I can't drink another Protein shake I can't drink Water it tastes bad I can't drink so much water it makes me pee a lot I want to lose but these spaghettios cost $1 a can and I need cheap lunch Oh I can't eat that it tastes bad These Vitamins are gross Blah, Blah, Blah Okay, some of these are from my co-workers and some are from BP. Grow up people! The diet industry is an over $1Billion industry, yeah that's billion with a "B". In what world do you diet to lose X pounds and then eat what you want when you are done and not gain it back?? Really? That's rocket science? If you were told you were going to die and all you had to do was drink 3 Protein shakes a day for say 2 weeks, would that change your attitude? Bet you would find a way to like them then. No one said you have to drink them plain you just have to watch what you add so you don't add sugar or calories. It's called google people. Yeah water can be boring or maybe even harsh on your tummy. Add something like Mio or fruit to it, it changes the molecular structure as well as the taste. Or you can go ahead and drink diet sodas and pretend they are not a problem, your choice. Of course the water makes you pee, it is flushing out bad stuff and cleaning your kidneys. It won't do that forever, the body will adjust. Or you can stop drinking and dehydrate your body and keep your weight since you like it so much! The girls in my office are ALWAYS dieting. None of them need to lose more than maybe 12-20 pounds but they are always trying the next fad diet, taking diet pills intermittently, doing the latest workout videos etc. Then every other day I see them dipping into the ranch dip, eating fried Chik Fil A, eating ramen noodles, eating spaghettios!!, drinking sweet tea. I really don't care what yu eat it is your choice but really?? Do I have to hear you complain about your weight while you are eating that stuff. I actually watched a co-worker eat her tuna for lunch yesterday and then when a co-worker was finishing up, she made a mini sandwich with 2 waffle fries and put pickle slices in the middle. WTH? I see a ton of complaints about vitamins on here. I take 2 chewable Bariatric Advantage vitamins a day (one in the morning and one at night), I take 2 500 mg Calcium chewables (one morning and one at night), I take sublingual B-12 twice a week. I will gladly do the chewables because for my newly sleeved stomach they absorb better when chewed. They actually taste pretty good to me. I WOULD MUCH RATHER TAKE VITAMINS THAN INJECT MYSELF DAILY WITH VICTOZA FOR MY BLOOD SUGAR!! I knew I was going to have to take vitamins BEFORE I had the surgery so why complain now? Okay, I feel much better! Thanks for listening, empathizing or just plain laughing! All reactions are welcome! Putting away my soapbox now, carry on!

    Fat confessionals

I love your posts and thank you for sharing! I have been overweight my whole life and after going through a traumatic divorce (ending in a restraining order and other issues), I retreated into solitude and ate more than ever before. I met the new love of my life in 2010 and we got married 2 years ago. I now want to live longer so I can spend time with him. I want to be healthier so we can do more. He has 2 kids from a previous relationship (14 and 10), and I want to be able to keep up with them! I also work at a job where I wear scrubs and I couldn't even find scrub pants that fit, so I had to wear knit pants in black with scrub tops. I have now gone down from a 4x to a 2x. It feels great to not feel like I need to try to be invisible as I have my whole life. I feel like a butterfly being re-born. I still have along way to go but my whole confidence level is changing, it is bleeding over into every aspect of my life. Thank you again for your post and that is my share!
