  1. @@jess9395, good for you and congrats on managing to have the sarcasm drip from your post...rock on!

    Quest bars

I like the Quest bar flavors Cookies and Cream, chocolate Chunk and S'Mores. I also like the Pure Protein ones in all flavors. And I also like the premier ones in all flavors. You do have to watch the carbs and sugars in most but all of those are on my NUT's approved list.

    New Here!

Wasn't asked to lose weight but I did. I also lost more on the pre-op diet I did for 14 days.
  4. ShrinkingPeach

    When did you feel hungry?

No hunger here either but I eat on schedule to make sure I get my protein in!

    Tator tot hotdish?

Mine would also say the same...protein and good veggies...starches only if you have room after and I never do. Tater tots is a BAD choice!

    4 days post op

So sorry to hear that you had such a tough time. I was very fortunate to have none of that. As time goes by you will do better and better. As the weight comes off you will forget in your excitement hopefully! Good luck!

    Freaking Out and excited

For me, I had no nausea and minimal pain. It wasn't so bad doing the stages of eating, it went by pretty fast. Take measurements if you haven't already so when you hit those stalls you can see inches coming off when the scale doesn't move. Don't get frustrated when you can't drink much at first, drink as much as you can it DOES get better. Good luck!
  8. Yes because those count and that is also a lot of carbs for a "mini bar"
  9. Too much sugar for me. My nut says less than 10g per serving.

    Curious Questions

For some the feeling of hunger does come back but for many it doesn't. For me I have not felt hungry yet. It is possible to regain by either stretching of the sleeve or by grazing or eating small meals throughout the day thereby consuming more calories and making bad decisions. It happens.
  11. That is awesome! Congrats on your exception!

    Gripe

Also it is a combination effort. Eat the calories they ask you to and drink your fluids. Exercise makes a huge difference so get going! Some weeks you will lose less than others and at this point you are still healing. You didn't gain it overnight and you won't lose it overnight!
  13. Happy Birthday and surgery day! What a great gift to give yourself, a healthier new you. Wishing you a smooth surgery and a speedy recovery!
  14. My PCP recommended my surgeon. I had my consult with him and really liked him. He took his time and answered all of my questions. He explained everything and what would happen. I also met his nutritionist that day and really liked her as well. As I did all my pre-testing I got really good feedback from the nursing staff at the hospital and they were all so caring that I knew I would be well taken care of from surgery. I had my sleeve done May 5 and everything went amazingly well. No nausea, minimal pain and everyone smiled the whole time. My first post-op the surgeon was he same...patient and took his time with me. Even after surgery he is still attentive and caring. I would choose him again and again.

    What Are Your Must-Have Foods?

I love fresh fruit. I keep Protein bars in hand so I can take then with me for Snacks. I keep Protein powder on hand for Breakfast shakes. I also keep Peanut Butter on hand for snacking. The rest I just get as I go.

Scared one min, excited the next

Everyone feels this way at some point. If it was that easy for us to lose weight prior to surgery then we would have. You will be fine. good luck!!
  17. My PCP is great and had been suggesting WLS to me for a couple years. All I needed from her was a letter stating that she thought I should have the surgery and why.

    What do you tell people?

My family doesn't know. They live out of state so it is easy to keep it secret. When they see me I will say that I am eating high protein/low carb and exercising. I will make sure to state I am eating normal portion sizes as a part of my "diet". The surgery is just PART of the process and not he whole surgery. It will be true when you say how you are eating.

    Stress incontinence

For me it has already improved and did so at about 50 pounds lost.

High BMI and choosing the right procedure

My BMI was also very high, 55 at the beginning. I also was sleeved and am doing great with the weight loss. They say you lose weight more rapidly with bypass but we will all end up at the same place in the end if we stick to the plan. I haven't found yet that I am really losing slowly but it IS working so I am quite happy. Do what is right for you!

    Sipping fluids vs regular

If it doesn't cause you any problems go for it! I drink normally now at 9 weeks post op and have been doing so for a while. In the beginning I had to sip but not long after I could gulp with no issues.

    Food and Exercise

That last sentence from @@slvarltx is a great point. Maybe you are also using food either to alleviate stress or as an emotional fix. Find a replacement for those behaviors. Until you can break they cycle try making the best choices you can when you do eat fast food. http://www.helpguide.org/articles/healthy-eating/healthy-fast-food.html I know when I used to eat fast food, I would zone out and order the worst things mindlessly. Try at least making a conscious decision to eat better when you do go. It will be a start until you can wean yourself off it. Good luck!

    Over drinking

Some people do get their hunger back and some don't. Water an be the culprit also. For some it can also be stomach acid.

    Food and Exercise

You are right, you do need a serious wake up call. At least you see it. This surgery is just a tool. You can read that in almost every post of this group. If you are unable to make smarter choices about food it is all for nothing. The sleeve will not keep you from gaining weight if you are determined to do so. It will limit your intake at EACH meal but you can graze yourself into weight gain with it. If you go for fast food after seeing your therapist, you have to ask yourself "why are you making those choices?" It is after all a choice what you eat. Is this therapist really helping you? Have you told them you are going for fast food after your session? Why are you still choosing to eat unhealthy food? What is it that is causing you to sabotage yourself? Good luck and I hope you take a deep honest look at yourself and get answers to these questions!
