Can you travel the same week you get the sleeve?
ShrinkingPeach replied to wagyu's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told if traveling by car to get out and walk every 2 hours...danger of clots in the legs. I would just say to move about as much as you can. You may be surprised how quickly you get tired. -
I was sleeved on 5/15/15 as an outpatient...surgery at 7:30 am and home at 1:26 pm same day. I did great. I live 30 minutes from the hospital where I had the surgery. My surgeon does a ton of patients as out-patients and some he keeps overnight.

My head may explode....Atena insurance is trying to kill me...
ShrinkingPeach replied to Michelle Tarver's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have Aetna and I had to show all my PCP notes showing weight loss attempts from the past 2 years with no weight gain. 3 months of those had to be consecutive. I had to have a letter from my PCP recommending the surgery and listing my BMI and co-morbidities. I was at a starting BMI much higher than you, so I can't say for sure how it will work for you. Aetna does have a few requirements but they are not as tough as some. I have even heard that if the BMI is lower but you have co-morbidities they will take those along with the weight into consideration. Good luck and try not to kill anyone in the process...one day you will look back on this and hopefully laugh? -
Medications/ need some advice
ShrinkingPeach replied to sbg224's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also was allowed to swallow pills at one week post op. I never had any issues doing so. 3 months does seem a little long...now I will say it felt strange to feel full after taking one pill sometimes lol -

Some days can be so frustrating...seem to be stalled again...emailed my NUT and waiting to hear back
-
That is me too, I just have to keep focusing but isn't it frustrating when you are doing everything right and that darn scale won't move??
-
how long did you stale? did you do anything to help move it along? I seem to be stuck for a week and a half now I am so close to my first 50lb loss i can taste it just cant get the damn scale to move
-
Just waited it out. Stick to your plan, your body is just resetting. I see some say they increase their calories for a couple days and it seems to kick start the body but I just waited.

New here.. just a couple questions
ShrinkingPeach replied to Jrenae00's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
From what I have read we all feel this way or felt this way at some point. I am almost at the most weight I have ever lost and initially I didn't even feel like I was getting smaller, then all my clothes got too big. When the stall hit that everyone seems to have, I thought this is it I have failed...then the weight started coming off again. We have failed so many times we just expect to again but this is a wonderful tool and if used properly you WILL succeed. Just look at some of the long-termers here and you see it can be done. I too have been overweight my whole life. I am finding I feel better and better as the weight comes off. I have no idea what I will look like at a more normal weight because I have never seen it. The more I lose the more excited I get about it. Things I have never seen before are happening...I have a small thigh gap, I can sit my laptop in my actual lap, my stomach doesn't touch the steering wheel anymore. Little victories will show you that it is possible to succeed. Hang in there and have faith in your surgeon and your nutritionist. You can do great! -
No real advice except just do it...you have to get in protein.
-
Initially you do have to take small sips but it will get better...take small sips and take them often...keep water in your hand, it helps!

Trying to get to the onerland:
ShrinkingPeach replied to grandmaofone's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
The only advice is patience. It will come but if you are already doing all that you stated that is it. Some weeks you will lose more and some less but look at the overall loss. You seem to be doing great. Hang in there! -
Wow! another 6 to 8 weeks
ShrinkingPeach replied to AllStar1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hang in there! After the hoops you jump through it will be all worth it when you look back! Good luck! -
I ate a burger 3 days before my surgery-why?
ShrinkingPeach replied to wagyu's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Okay so let me play devil's advocate here, not the popular opinion I know. I would say of course you are human and it happens. We have all made mistakes but let me give you something to ponder. Why did you choose a burger? Think about why it wasn't a healthier choice. Just food for thought pun intended. Move on it isn't the end of the world but for your success later, see if you can put your finger on why you chose to eat what you did. It may help when times get tough or when the head hunger gets loud. Best of luck to you and wishing you a great, smooth surgery!! -
At the very beginning (Or hello from a newbie.)
ShrinkingPeach replied to Beck90's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am certainly not at goal weight just yet but for me I know those unhealthy foods are a slippery slope. The quote that concerns me that you said is: "Obviously there must be changes and I fully intend to follow my surgeon's advice to the T until I know exactly what I can tolerate and what I can't... and I have no intention of sabotaging my wonderful new tool" I really do hope that you give this lifestyle an honest try and not just "until you can see what you can tolerate"...most plans are very realistic and are not NO carb but LOW carb. Yes you can on special occasions have a bite or two of cake at a party but know that for most a bite or two triggers cravings and reintroduces the angry head monsters who yell at you to eat more. For some even with the sleeve it can induce dumping and make you feel very sick. For me I have had a bite or 2 of key lime pie since surgery, I am human and would never lie on here, what is the point? That being said I only had those bites after I had met my Protein and liquid goal for the day. For me, before surgery, I lacked the discipline AND the ability to completely lose the weight before. Sure if I grazed all day I could eat more but I made a commitment to myself and my surgeon to follow the plan. I am having great success so why go back instead of forward. Every milestone I make gives me incentive to have more resolve to do it. Everyone's journey is different and yours is yours alone but consider the reasons why you would want to eat things that have no nutritional value. When you can only eat small portions you will want to get the most bang for your nutritional buck. Lack of protein can lead to serious issues if that is abused but of course if you must, have a bite of cake! -
Coke Zero pre op diet
ShrinkingPeach replied to John Michaels's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you @@Liz5012, I started my loss in January before surgery so 30 of that was before surgery and 49 is after...loving this sleeve and my new life so far! -
Congrats on your wonderful new relationship, he sounds great in that he is supportive and accepting. A friend once told me that love is giving someone the power to break your heart and trusting them not to. Wishing you both the best!

15 days out and I miss the crunch
ShrinkingPeach replied to lvlpar's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
@ is right, a sf popsicle can really help with that need for a crunch or to be able to chew. It really is a head game, and it will get better I promise! -
Doing 3 sets of sessions is better than nothing. I would go as long as is comfortable and add more minutes as you lose and are able to do so. It will take time for you to build up to a better work-out but at least you are moving forward and on track! Good luck and Keep up the great effort!
