Low pain tolerance + gastric sleeve?
ShrinkingPeach replied to Savannah Lee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For me, I had no significant pain and I was very fortunate to not have ANY gas pains. The most discomfort I felt was from the hernia repair. I also took my pain meds religiously around the clock for the first 3 days and then stopped. I was tired but relatively pain free as long as I was conscious of my movements and didn't stoop or go to fast. A few times I felt like I couldn't stand up tall so I didn't then that went away. Good luck! -
Chewable Vitamins
ShrinkingPeach replied to katiern's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I took Bariatric Advantage for the first 3 months and am now switching over to over the counter pills to swallow. Haven't ad any issues swallowing pills from the start although I know some do. I attended a support group meeting where a bariatric advantage rep spoke and he said the chewable are better absorbed by sleeve patients but absorption happens in the intestine so idk if that was a sales tactic or not. -
Why did you choose the Sleeve over the Bypass
ShrinkingPeach replied to Pinkgirl1234's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
For me personally, I chose sleeve over RNY because I did not want my my insides rerouted, I am already Vitamin deficient and that is a risk with RNY and all my research said that was what was right for me. I had diabetes, HBP and high cholesterol. I am now off all blood sugar meds and have been since day of surgery. I am on a much lower dose HBP med and a half dose for cholesterol. For each of us the surgery we have is a personal decision. My surgeon agreed I would be successful with the sleeve and so far I have been. Good luck in whatever procedure you choose! -
Way to go!! Happy to hear you are doing so well! Keep up the good work!

Important Question
ShrinkingPeach replied to Kym Preslar's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Agree with all the above, no way to know until it happens. Age is a number tho so embrace it and live on as a thinner you!! -
I also have been eating crab and shrimp with no issues. I think shrimp is a more dense meat so they may be worried about you chewing it well enough but it can be done with small bites. Good luck!

Post-Op Shopping List
ShrinkingPeach replied to DrewzWife's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I drove on Day 4 after surgery as I stopped pain meds day 3. For sure be off the pain meds before driving. The list from @@megmom757 is dead on depending on your plan. Stock up according to the meal plan given to you by your team. Good luck!! -

Goodwill can be a great friend in this time. The clothes would be cheaper than buying used and paying shipping. Also Ross is good if you have one near you. Just a thought! -
Welcome and congrats! Yes you can def drink more ounces than you can consume yogurt. The Water is thinner and goes right through. Yogurt stick with you for a few minutes. You have read all the advice I am sure so go forth and lose poundage!! Good luck!

Multivitamin and calcium and....
ShrinkingPeach replied to juno5's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I took Bariatric Advantage for the first 3 months but have been switching to over the counter as I run out due to cost. I swallow pills fine and don't have to crush thankfully. I am now 13 weeks out. -
Officially down 80 pounds this morning! Now for 90...lol

Never considered postponing. Did all my research while waiting for the consult and continued learning while doing all my requirements. In reality there isn't much to research f you have already done your requirements and have chosen your surgeon and procedure. The rest is just what you will be eating and the plan they want you on. That should be given to you before surgery. Don't panic and in the tie you have left get your plan in place. It isn't that complicated and you will be glad you were proactive and ready to go. Don't delay a step toward better health.

@@katladee, I was diabetic and came off all blood sugar meds day of surgery and have never had to take them again. I am on a 5mg dose for HBP now and half dose for cholesterol. I was sleeved May 15, 2015. I think the sleeve works great for those with these conditions and my surgeon agreed. I think it comes down to the comfort level of the surgeon, so if you want the sleeve, have a deep discussion about the pro's and con's of each with your surgeon. Good luck!

It may not be lack of Vitamins but lack of hydration. It can even be low Protein. If none of those apply check with your doctor as you may be low in Iron.

Pinterest has tons of stuff, just search weight loss surgery or gastric sleeve, etc...welcome and good luck!

189 at 6feet tall...that's pretty good. How much more do you want to lose? As for the food sticking thing its is probably from not chewing enough or eating too quickly. Try smaller bites and chew well. The cravings are more in your head than your stomach. That will go away in time.

Sometimes after eating I get what you would think is a feeling of hunger but it is really thirst from the sodium in the food. I try to drink first when I feel hungry and the "hunger" is always a false alarm. I am 3 months out and still don't get hungry.

Newbie Here! Surgery 8/14! Yayy!
ShrinkingPeach replied to beingfree's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Welcome and good luck with your surgery! Stay active here and keep us posted on your progress. My best advice is to listen to your surgeon and your nutritionist for the best advice. There are some really great people here and there are a few looking to get around the surgery. Your own team will not steer you wrong. There are tons of differences in diets and plans but theirs will work. There re some great veterans here and they will keep it real but help if you ask. Again good luck!! -
Herbalife protein shakes..
ShrinkingPeach replied to cindyw41's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As long as you watch the sugar amounts along with Protein content, any shake is fine. Know that the more you add to the shake the thicker it becomes making it more difficult initially to drink any volume. The thickness of some shakes made it hard for me to sip when I was on liquids. I often use add-ins to make my protein shakes better now! -
Taking Medications
ShrinkingPeach replied to Nancy Myers-Bradley's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told to resume meds the next day. I had no problem swallowing and didn't have to crush them. They did make me really full tho lol -
Welcome and wishing you the best of surgeries! Visit often and post your progress! There are some really great people here!
