    Expectations

When I went for my consult appointment with the surgeon, I also met with the nutritionist and she and I discussed current eating habits and what my eating changes would be. I was given a copy of the nutrition advice from the office and what the pre-op diet would be. She also explained the supplements I would be taking after surgery. I then waited for my surgery date once insurance approved.

    Consultation appointment scheduled

Most insurances require documentation from a doctor but you can ask your plan what they need. Call and ask to clear your mind for what yu need to provide! Good luck!

    Feeling frustrated and nervous

Agree with @proudgrammy. It is unfortunate to find out you have these issues but having these specific issues is a positive for getting approved. Don't let it get you down, most if not all of these may be corrected with your surgery. You are absolutely right that this means you are making the right decision for your health! Good luck!

    Carbonated drinks after surgery?

I also quit sodas for surgery and never went back. I have been told that the carbonation makes the sleeve very uncomfortable. Good luck!

Question can you please help me ?

It won't prevent you from having your surgery. Just get back on track and follow your plan! Good luck!!

    What do you say?

Some people will be supportive and some not. Some will be jealous and some won't care. Just know that is more about them and less about you. Don't let the people who don't understand the surgery sway you or make you feel bad. They will be the ones who are negative the whole way through. Keep your chin up and enjoy your journey to a healthier you. Good luck!!

    Workplace drama...REALLY?!

Love your rant! Gown adults can so act like children. Everyone at my work knows about my surgery and have all been very supportive. I work in the medical field. Most of the back office are constantly dieting anyway. The practice admin suggested a healthy potluck day and everyone signed up. What did she write down? Mac and cheese! Walk proudly and enjoy your accomplishment. If they are talking about you then they are just jealous and probably threatened by your new confidence. Strut your stuff girl!!

    Must haves post operation..

Gas-x pills are small and stronger dose. I had sf popsicles, mio drops for my Water, ready to drink Protein shakes, a good water bottle and that was about it. As you move into different food phases you will add more things. Good luck!

    Help..idk what to do

I am 13 weeks out from sleeve surgery and down 57 pounds since surgery and down 87 pounds total. I didn't want the lapband due to failure rates and having t have fills done often. I have met many people on this site who have been revised to sleeves due to their band slipping. There is a gentleman in my live support group who is 6 years post op with the sleeve and lost 350 pounds. The sleeve is a safe and effective procedure. Everyone's situation is different and it is a personal decision. All of the surgeries work but they are just one piece of the puzzle. Good luck with your decision!

    And another question

Frozen pickle juice?? lol now I am not a pickle person but the juice frozen should be fine...just watch your sodium intake as it can make you more dehydrated.

    Feeling left out

Agree with @@WL WARRIOR. Even people you tell you had surgery forget 5 minutes later. Just focus on what you need and not the others. In time you will be able to make better choices and find something everywhere you go. If the restaurant is a trigger food for you and you still want to abstain then do what you feel is best for you cos you are the only one who matters. Good luck!!

    Surgery 9/22 looking for mentor

Congrats on your date! Lots of friends here, just ask away! You can send private messages also if you don't want in out there in public! Good luck!!!
  16. I spend less. I was already eating quality foods most of the time but the quantity was too much. Now if we go out to eat, I get 3-4 meals off an entree or I will get a side salad and have a few bites of the hubby's Protein. I only do one Protein shake a day so protein costs more but it lasts me a while. Thankfully the hubby eats the same foods as me just more so it all works out for us.

    Keeping WLS a secret.

I told all of my co-workers cos that would be pretty hard to hide. They have all been supportive and excited for me. I told close friends but have not told any of my family and probably won't ever. For me, my family is not close by and I don't see them often so it works. My step-mother is a person who has made comments over the years about my weight and I just don't want to deal with her comments or attitude. When I see her at Christmas her jaw is going to break when it hits the floor...lol I plan on saying I have changed my lifestyle and exercise. I think it is all about who you choose to share your personal business with. Weight is one of the few things people still feel like they can be so intrusive with. Would you comment on weight to someone if they had a terminal illness? Then why must we share our WLS when it is only one tool in the arsenal? I just don't feel like that is lying in my opinion.
  18. Get up and brush my hair before my shower...hair in my hands...shampoo and shower...hair in my hands...blow dry hair...hair in my hands...ugh...I hate all this shedding!

I know It's awful to see the hair fall! I was astonished at how much came out each day. But now (4.5 months out and 89 lbs lost) it seems to be stabilizing and regrowing. I went for a haircut the other day and my stylist showed me how much new hair was coming in. Made me feel much better. Keep your protein and your spirits high. You're doing great and your body will stabilize as you heal and gain strength!

    Help!

here goes: 1- you just had major surgery 2- you had most of your stomach removed 3- the nerves have been cut so you cannot depend on a full feeling 4- you should be measuring your foods and don't ingest more than you are allowed 5- the healing process affects how much you can consume and it WILL get better 6- hunger can be in your head 7- hunger can be thirst 8- refer to your plan and hang in there You can do this, the beginning is tough cos you are also recovering from surgery but you can do this!! You will be glad you did!
  21. My surgeon's office dropped the ball and didn't send my info when they said they had. Call and speak to the practice administrator and ask for assistance. Good luck!
  22. I have attended live support group since 2 months before my surgery. We meet once a month. I enjoy the face to face interaction with those who are pre-op and post. We even have a handful of folks who come to every meeting who are years out. I have slowly gotten to know some of these folks and am making friends within the group. It is nice to have someone who knows exactly what you are experiencing to talk to. My husband even goes with me and sometimes speaks to support-spouses to offer insight. I would say to go to at least one and see what you get out of it. Then you can decide if you wish to continue. Good luck!

    Buying future clothes

Agree with @deetz71. So far I have worn things until they are just too big to get away with, then I hit Goodwill or Ross to get low cost options. I don't get much at one time though cos they only last me about a month before I need smaller items. I will enjoy building a new wardrobe when I am at goal. Good luck!

Take a deep breath and believe! Good luck with your visit today and with your application for approval. Keep us posted and let us know when your surgery date is and what procedure you have elected.
