Realistically:
ShrinkingPeach replied to cbruce125's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have had 3 mixed drinks since surgery. Two of them I couldn't finish because I was at dinner and no drinking while eating. The first one I had after surgery I got quite the buzz, that was probably 10 weeks out. I don't wish to drink often due to the empty calories and honestly I didn't drink that much before. -

Protein drinks
ShrinkingPeach replied to emilyphoenix74's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I make a frappuccino every morning with one scoop vanilla Protein powder, 1 cup unsweetened almond milk, ice, a squirt of folgers drops and a splash of sf Torani white chocolate syrup. Total calories= 175/ 25g protein I like the Jay Robb brand, I get it at the Vitamin shoppe. I like their vanilla and their strawberry, haven't tried the chocolate. SF torani syrups are great, I get those at Costplus World Market. You can also add greek yogurts to the shakes. Look on you tube for the video that shows how to eliminate the foam in the blender. It comes from air when the blender isn't full. -
Post Sleeve Nutrition
ShrinkingPeach replied to LoosingIt67's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Most of those foods are on my nutritionists list as okay. That being said it is: 2% cheese Peanut Butter is okay in moderation since it is high fat and I watch brands for sugar content coffee Add-ins such as creamer is higher in sugar and some people drink a little coffee with their creamer Greek yogurt in and of itself is high sugar but the Greek 100's are excellent pretzels and chips are a slider food, they don't fill you up and are empty carbs Baked goods, sweets and pudding are high sugar and fat. SF pudding would be a better choice if you gotta. My nutritionist and surgeon say for me to get 60-70g of Protein and no less than 900 calories at this point. I am to eat 3 meals and 2 Snacks. I don't have to count the rest as long as I get protein first, non-starchy veggies second and starches last if there is room. I do a Protein shake for breakfast on the go, lunch is 3 ounces meat and 1 ounce veggies, snack is a Protein Bar, dinner is 3-4 ounces meat and 1 ounce veggies, evening snack is 1.5 ounces fruit. Other than my protein shake in the morning I only drink Water. It is all about the choices we make. Good luck! -
I had never heard the term "slider foods" until I had surgery. The article makes a very valid point that these types of food do not fill us up and we eat them mindlessly leading to overeating. Eating real food and good for us food leads us to better choices and foods that stay with us for longer. Thanks for sharing!

3.5 MONTHS POST-OP -
Settling into the day to day sleeved life. It doesn't seem like work like it did in the beginning. I am sure it will again as I get close to goal and work to get those last few pounds off. Looking forward to seeing what I look like as I have never been a normal weight...lol

Can weight be kept off?
ShrinkingPeach replied to robinmeadows's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I don't know the statistics but it depends on you if you become one of them. If you exercise and follow your plan you won't gain it back. If you slide back into old habits and make poor food choices, then the weight will come back. The surgery is just a tool. -
You do have to ride it out. Nothing will stop the loss, it is going to happen. Hang in there and try to not pull it a lot. Less ponytails, etc. Mine is falling out like crazy but luckily I have extremely thick hair. I can definitely notice it is thinner.

Did surgery help your low back pain/sciatica?
ShrinkingPeach replied to butterfly**'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
With all the extra weight I had major back pain and could only stand for short period of time before having to sit. I am down 88 pounds at this point and have much more energy and virtually no back pain! It gets better and better as I go. -
I changed my eating habits in January with surgery in May. I lost 30 pounds, detoxed myself from sugar and carbs. It made it easier when I did my 2 week pre-op diet. I figured that was a 30 pound head start on my total weight loss. Good for you for committing so early and making changes! Good luck!

ShrinkingPeach replied to tugs's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Haven't had any issues but I was fortunate to find this site and never went looking for more. I get the support I am looking for here. -
I'm just...so thirsty.
ShrinkingPeach replied to theother_onefoot's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For some using a straw takes in more air and for some it causes nausea. The only way you will know is to try. The days of taking a big swallow are not gone, just on hold for a short while. You will be able to drink normally again soon. Hang in there!! -
Getting Nervous!
ShrinkingPeach replied to sbagby1960's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery went great and I never experienced nausea or gas. I had the sleeve done and have never frothed or dumped. Not everyone has issues. Good luck! -
Congrats on your surgery and wishing you a speedy recovery!!

I have Aetna and once all requirements were met and all the appropriate documentation got to the insurance (the doctors office drug it out) it took about 2 weeks to get approved. Once approved I was required by my surgeon to do a two week pre-op diet that I started immediately and surgery was scheduled. From correct submission to approval was about 2 weeks and surgery was scheduled for 2 weeks out. Hope that helps!

it took me 5 months to get from consult to surgery. My insurance required me to jup through a few hoops and my surgeon's office dropped the ball submitting my paperwork so I had a delay. Good luck and hopefully you get a date soon!!

More energy or less energy / fatigue after sleeve
ShrinkingPeach replied to bhopeful's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had very little energy before surgery and I agree it was from carrying extra weight and also the co-morbidities of diabetes and hbp. Initially after surgery, I had low energy for about 4-6 weeks bu that was just recovery from surgery. Now I have tons of energy and it is great!!
