I'm really having second thought's about doing it here close to home (KC) cuz for what I'm paying out of pocket, I could of gotten me and someone else done in TJ Mexico . . . . . . . Dont want to turn back now so we'll charge on. Good luck and keep posting, let us know how your doin. I've found ALOT of usefull info here in the "Men's Room". Glad to of found it.

HaHaHaHa, is someone having a bad day??? I was directed here to get some much needed information, and I have. Some of the topic's get waaaay off or "too much info for me" (post/female problems). I will not get into a pissing match with anyone over a "glass of water", sorry some of us have better thing's to do! What I added to the comment was mearly an attempt at a joke. Would it had been better if I had said "you can fix fat, but you cant fix ugly"??? "It's a glass of water", everyone's input has been noted and will now be taken under advisment. We would like to thank everyone for their participation and we look forward to hearing from you next time when we'll be discussing, How to keep that person over the intercom from asking "Do You Want Fries With That". Please have a good day!

bmysuccess, Yep, ya can fix FAT, but ya cant fix STUPID! steph cn, I'm old and set in my way's, if I say no Water, I mean no water. Should I still get it, I'd ask for them to take it back . . . . . . . no problem.

What is everyone eating on a typical day?
SteveInKansas replied to Fastpitch Mom's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Frangipani, I noticed in your daily diet you mentioned "bread" more than once. It was my understanding bread was a "no-no"??? Was I misinformed??? -
Paul From Boston, "CIB" What is it, Carnation Instant Breakfast??? Didnt know for sure, headed out to buy what I need for the pre-op diet and afterward's. Wanting to "try" different thing's now so I know if I can stomach them later. Any suggestion's anyone???

Who know, who doesn't, and why???
SteveInKansas replied to TX_IT_Chick's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I've told only a few very close friends and NO family, mainly cuz I dont want my family to worry. Hopefully they will see the result's soon enough and ask, then I'll tell em. -
Pizzaman, hope everything is alright considering the discomfort & pain. My Doc said he was switching to the "new" band that was wider and the "inside balloon" goes all the way around instead of leaving the gap. Sorry to hear about your run of bad luck with the nurse, we could blame it on John, he's the one that said there would be a good lookin nurse! Hope she doesnt have any sister's in the KC area! Everybody keep posting, I dont want to talk myself out of this!

Really down and depressed
SteveInKansas replied to nurselori73's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Might start by asking yourself who your doing this for, you or them??? I too am self pay and did consider going to Mexico. For what I'm paying ($16.500) I could almost take me and a friend to Mexico, but KC is alot closer to home. Dont let your family or friends change your mind, do what YOU want to do. You cant change your family but you can find new friends! What's best for you??? Good Luck! -
"Breakfast" this morning--Yum???
SteveInKansas replied to CallMeJim's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums

Today is the big day for "Pizzaman", give em hell and let us know how your doin'. John says there's good lookin nurses when ya wake up . . . . . ??? Maybe somethin to look forward to! There is a post regarding life insurance, did anyone "up" their's before surgery???
-
Mornin Jim, hope this finds ya doin a lil better. I see what I have to look forward to Feb. 5th. Hang in there, I'm sure like everything else the discomfort will subside. I'll continue to moniter your progress as I'm right behind ya!

Band Fills - What do they cost in Oz
SteveInKansas replied to ingyrob's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Might be a silly question but, with all the bouncing around from Dr. to Dr. how do you keep track of how much is in your band AND does your original Dr. cop an attitude cuz you took your business elsware cuz it was cheaper??? Possibly when you get to the "sweet spot" it doesnt matter how much is in the band, but shouldnt there be a record of it somewhere??? Not banded till Feb 5th, still got plenty of stupid questions! -
That sound's like one hell of a deal??? I'm going in Feb. 5th for my surgery w/ Dr. malley there in KC (I'm 2 hrs South of KC). Being self pay myself that would save me around $14,000.00+ What Dr. is it, are you talking about one in Mexico?

So what happened at *your* seminar?
SteveInKansas replied to mommakatx2's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I attended my seminar Dec. 19th and like you said it lasted about an hour. Nurse came in and we had a chance to ask all kinds of questions, some about the opperation, some about insurance. Dr. came in and went through a slide show with us, showed us the actual band and took questions after that. I would suggest making a list of EVERYTHING you ever wanted to know about this but were affraid to ask! That's what their there for, to answer all your questions. But make a list, I did cuz I'm very forgetful. I start on one thing and forget about another. It's a seminar for you, to make sure this is what you want and ask what ever you want. After the seminar those that wanted made an appointment then to see the Doc. Hope this helped. -
Man, you guys are making this sound waaaaay to easy! I'm gettin myself all worked up over nothin it sounds like. Congrad's to all that have hit the 100lb mark. Hope to be right there with ya in a few month's, if I can kick this "willl power" in the ass. Right now there's a big lack of it. . . . . . . . Dont actually start my pre-op diet until Jan. 22nd but have been really trying to watch what I've been eating. Splurged this past weekend cuz of my 50th B-Day, after all, ya only turn 50 once! All you can eat boiled shrimp Sat. night and cocktail's with old friends. But now it's time to start gettin serious. Dr. is gonna have me on a 8oz shake for breakfast, 8 oz shake for lunch and weight watchers meal for dinner. I dont think I eat that much now but the two 8oz shakes have got me a lil worried, might be a loooooong time till that diet dinner??? John, thank's for the kind word's, I'm as new on here as you are. Lookin forward to the good lookin nurse's you said would be there when I wake up! And ya gotta love them grandkid's, wish we would of had them first! Our's is 10 week's now and she's the new love of my life. She's one of the main reason's behind doing this. Also checked out Whosyadaddy's site, he's got him a couple cutie's. And what kind of bike ya got whosyadaddy? We've got 4 Harley's and dont have time to ride any of em. I'm not smart enough to post pic's, lucky to be able to do what I do. I know just enough about this thing to be dangerous! I've tried to go back and read most of the messages on the "Men's Room" and I'm not understanding why the gas effect's your left shoulder as many have said it does post-op??? I'm sure I'll have plenty of stupid question's before and after the big day, Feb. 5th. Keep up the good work all Band date Feb. 5, 2008 Dr. Stephen Malley, Kansas City Starting weight 320 BMI 50

Mornin All, KCbigguy, can I assume your from KC??? Just a guess! I'm 2 hrs south of ya and I'm going to Dr. Malley there in KC to be banded Feb. 5th. Having lot's of uneasy feeling's about the whole deal but I'm sure thing's will be alright. Mostly about the diet and being able to stick to it, pre-op & post-op. I guess my #1 fear is never waking up after surgery. Been under once before and it never bothered me but this time 30 years later I cant stop thinking about it. We had our first grandbaby Oct. 16th so all of a sudden I feel I have something to live for! So for X-Mas & my "50th" B-Day (Today Jan. 6th) I'm buying myself a oneway ticket to a longer life! Glad to find this "Mens Room", some of the other stuff on this site get's a lil off topic. I dont need any more drama in my life and I'm not to concerned about "female problems". Although it was pretty entertaining the other day when TommyO made his stand! Can anyone give me a head's up on what to expect just after surgery. I've read on here you'll need Gas-X strips & Liquid Tylenol??? Is there a list on here somewhere I can look over? Right now I'm just thinkin about a Crown & 7 to calm the nerves! Now that I've found this "Men's Room" again, all I have to do is remember how to get back here! I'm not very computer savy . . . . . Thanx

Calling all February Bandsters!
SteveInKansas replied to LilMissDiva Irene's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Got the phone call yesterday that insurance (BCBS Kansas) wouldnt cover it. We knew they wouldnt, but as of Jan. 2nd they made "some" changes, they just didnt have anything to do with Weight Loss. My surgery date is Feb. 2, 2008 with Dr. Stephen Malley in KC. No hospital stay but he wants me to stay "in town" over night just in case, so they furnish a motel room across the street from the center. I personally dont think I eat alot but when he told me I could only have an 8oz shake for Breakfast, one 8oz shake for lunch and a diet plate for dinner two weeks before the surgery . . . . . HELL, I'm hungry already and I havent even started the "diet". I spent New Years Day watching the full "season 2" rerun's of the TV show "The Biggest Loser". Thinking I could watch what I eat, I found myself starving all day, going to the fridge EVERY comercial. This is going to be challenging to say the least. I might need to rent one of those Iron fisted Catholic Nun's to slap my had everytime I stray!:phanvan -
Finally got date yesterday, FEB. 5th for me. My mind is really starting to wonder now, forgot everything I have learned on here so come back to brush up a little! Not sure why but I feel braindead now, it's all starting to sink in "it's really going to happen" . . . . . . . . . .

Hi, I'm Sherri and I eat junk food
SteveInKansas replied to Sherrirbgr's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
TheGhOst, I see your from KC, I'm seeing Dr. Malley in KC Jan. 2nd. Being self pay I'm looking for the best deal, Mexico is out and "discount Dr's" scare me. Have heard of some practicing in one state when they (or their assistant) have lost their liscense in another!!! You paid about $1,000 less than I'm looking at paying. Where & who did your surgery? Thanx in advance -
Hello,New with a few questions
SteveInKansas replied to BlessedTwice's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm going in Jan 2nd for my 1st visit. I'm told they have a shrink and all "on site". I never thought about "the test", I know I'm not right in the head but thought I kept it pretty much undercover??? I too would be interested in "what their looking for" and are there "tricky" questions??? -

Newbie from Kansas
SteveInKansas replied to ThinDolphin3's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
ThinDolphin3, I'll welcome you but I'm just as new as you are! Had "cold feet" and second thoughts until last night when I finally went to Dr. Stephen Malley's seminar in KC (I live 2 hrs south) Seminar is required before making your consultation appointment there. I asked about 75% of the questions, and was very suprised to get some very sadisfactory answers. I too am going into the world of the unknown, for me anyway. Not sure what's ahead but ya never know what's down a road until ya take it! And this is one I desperatly need to take. (BMI 50.1) I walk by the fridge and gain weight. Dr. Malley stayed and talked to me at least 30 minutes after the meeting. Heck, he answered questions I didnt even have! I told him about my "window of oppertunity" to have the surgery done and he didnt think it would be a problem at all. Everyone I had spoken with said he was very down to earth and trust me, he is. He's like talkin to a buddy at the bar over cocktails. He walked in and introduced himself as a "long haired, tatooed, beer drinkin biker" . . . . . . we hit it off just fine after that. My first visit to his office is Jan 2nd and I'm ready to get the ball rollin.
