I'm Pam, a young ^~^ Grandma of 2 very active boys.  I'm active too, or at least I was until 2009 when a Black Hawk helicopter picked me up from the ground and dropped me 11 feet.  Lots of health problems and weight gain later I am here, post VSG surgery. My surgery was only on 4/14/2015, however I'm already feeling better and a few issues have miraculously gone away!  Currently retired from 14 years as a paralegal and 24 years as an administrator for a hardware manufacturer representative, architectural firm, state tax auditor and even managed a nail salon for a short time. I now work with my husband for our small consulting company.  My life was/is full.

My accident in 2009 made me very immobile and I gained 40 pounds due to my inactivity. I tried every diet imaginable and the end result was always the same, I'd loose a few and gain many. After long talks with my doctor I began my bariatric research and ended up going to MX. I know Mexico???  I only told 2 people besides my husband, I was so afraid of being judged.

My husband went with me and at the airport I met another patient also getting the gastric sleeve and, well, she has become my best friend.  That's what is best about going through this type of surgery, are the wonderful people and life long friends you meet.

I arrived Monday, had my labs done and my EKG.  On Tuesday I went into surgery at 11:30 and arrived back in my room at 2:30.  At 5:00 pm I wanted to get up because I wanted to walk the gas out, however, the pain, (or was it gas?) was unbearable but still I was determined to get moving.  With the help of my husband I sat up, then passed out twice.  Doctors and nurses arrived and I passed out a third time.  I was told that they would observe me for an hour and then decide if I needed exploratory surgery or not.  Ok my fear was rising.  I was closely monitored, my bp was dropping and so was my oxygen levels.

At 8:30 I went back into emergency surgery where a large hematoma was found at the top of my stomach.  I was thoroughly flushed out and my stomach resealed.  I was given 3 pints of blood.  I arrived back in my room at midnight.

Ok, so my story isn't positive but someone has to make up that 2% in complications.  I was up and walking the very next morning, even took a shower by myself, and the rest of my hospital stay I progressed just like all the other Tuesday patients.  I'm fine.  I'm walking 2 to 3 times day and though I'm hungry I'm feeling good and ready for the rest of my journey to begin.

Before my surgery I had GERD, sleep apnea and chronic pain.  Ok, so I'm not saying these are gone but I am hopeful to rid myself of all of these by removing the weight and getting active again.  I can't wait!
