    Banded Celebrities

Sharon Osbourne can afford a therapist for years to figure out "why" she eats, but so can Oprah and she hasn't figured it out yet. While they are all trying to figure it out, I could be dead from the excess weight. And her cancer might be another reason why she wanted the band removed. I don't consider Sharon Osbourne to be "the average person" emotionally or otherwise. Her family is crazy, funny but crazy. Not exactly your average family. And the husband can barely speak a cohesive sentence. The dogs pee all over the house, is there anything "normal" about them? Not someone I would take any advice from.
  2. Aftercare would be mostly fills and possibly an unfill. But if you had any post op complications it would be nice to know your surgeon is close by. Occasionally, people have an infection at the port site after surgery, that would be an example of an aftercare need.

All you people do is complain...

Me too, I want to complain about all the food talk.... dounts, fried this, fried that, fast food, french fries, dips. I think I need to UNsubscribe to this thread, fast! You guys are bad! Spank! Would this be a bad time to say that I made creme brulee last night AND these little cheese puffs for appetizers. The dough is like a cream puff but with cheese. We're having friends for dinner tonight.

    Slow Losers Unite!

Welcome. More info would help for us to give suggestions. What size band do you have? Do you know how much fill is in it? Do you track your calories and daily protein? Was any of the weight you lost from a pre-surgery diet? Do you wait one hour after eating before drinking? Your band doesn't give the full benefits until it is filled to the right level for you. A small portion of solid protein ( like 2 to 4 oz) should keep you full for about 4 hours, when your band is adjusted properly). I'm sue with more info, you'll get lots of suggestions from people on the forum.

    Just. Not. Fair.

Kind of sad that she is at a healthy weight for her height but is standing out as an "exception" to the "normal" beauty queen. Assuming her stats listed are accurate.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Compare lap-band procedure to gastric bypass surgery that site might help you, it compares the two surgeries. The band has a ring (like a hollow donut) that gets slowly filled with saline solution until it fits your stomach. It is adjustable, can be unfilled if needed for example you get cancer or other disease and need extra nutrition.

    Need some reassurance pretty please

did you ever go on vacation before and NOT gain? Not me? So I would think you're band is working. It's not just for us to lose weight but to help us maintain... and you did! It's working!

    Weight loss is getting harder

You've lost an average of over 12. 5 pounds a month, that's really good. Once you've lost weight it takes fewer calories to maintain your new lower weight, so it will take even fewer to continue to lose at the same old rate. It just doesn't usually work like we want it to. Most of us have periods where the weight loss slows down or stops for several weeks, it's just normal, as much as we all hate it to be. Now after all saying all that, you could do a day or two of liquids, that can jump start the scale.

    Chocolate Anyone?!

When were you banded? Have you had a fill? Is it possible you're too tight? Reflux/heartburn can be a symptom of a too tight band. I have had Peanut Butter a few times with no problem, chocolate, I've only had one or two pieces at christmas, none since, but it was not a problem.

    Hollyberries is Halfway there!

I called and made an appt for Monday. Of course, today I'm so much better than yesterday. so I'll re-evaluate over the weekend. I know I need the fill, but still worried about having it before vacation. Maybe I'll just get a very little bit. ( I have a big band). I probably was a better candidate for the smaller one ( but I didn't have a choice). Good News is even though I ate more than usual yesterday, I added it up at the end of the day and it wasn't as bad as I thought, so the band is working. I guess even a little more food than we usually eat seems like so much more. At least you get that satisfied feeling between meals, I get a little of that sometimes but yesterday, whoa, nothing filled me up. Glad it's better today! I just gotta think gee, why is it taking so long to hit my sweet spot? I can easily eat a six oz chicken breast. I generally don't but I could. I'd like to hit about 3-4 oz and feel like I cant eat one more bite. good for you on the exercising. I really have to work on that issue!
  16. My pains lasted abour four days and then became milder for the next three for four days after. I also had a hernia repair, but knew it was there before surgery.

Maybe you need a little more fill taken out? Left side of what? Shoulder/neck area? Lower left abdomen? Does the Dr. have an answer for your pain? If it continues, I would ask the Dr.

    Menopause HELP Please!

You mean like Twizzlers!:cursing: That's one of the foods that kept me fat! LOL! Still have not had one since banding and I have a package in the cabinet. But maybe if it cures menopause symptoms... well, then it's for medicinal reasons, right? Just kidding! I just keep convincing myself that twizzlers will sit like a lead bullet in my pouch.... yes, tell me that's true. My update to earlier post on this thread is still have not put my patch back on. sleeping is ok but hot flashes prevail. I also get these things I call "cold flashes". It's not my skin that gets cold, it's my bones or inside and it lasts kind of like a hot flash and then goes away. Weird. I don;t think I'll go back on the patch. As soon as you go off you have to deal with all the issues anyway and I hate taking meds.

Cheating on the 14 Liver Shrinking Diet

Well now that the light bulb went off in your head that you are a food addict.... use this experience the next time you want to go see your crack dealer of choice. It's a craving, it will happen again. some people find AFTER the surgery and pre-op and post diet phases, that a small treat helps them, you know like a bite or two. Not me! A bite of two today turns into three or four the next day. Figure out which one your are and that will help. your pre-op diet is fairly generous compared to some others, so I guess that's a good thing, but if you limit the carbs in your pre-op diet some of the cravings will get better. The CIB has carbs, there are alternative Protein drinks with fewer carbs and the string cheese and turkey and ham are good, but on bread? If my Dr. told me I coould have those foods, I would too, but the carbs are so addictive for many of us. Hang in there. Glad you called your Mom for advice and I hope you feel better now that you vented a bit. lunch will be over soon!

    Getting enough Calories?

Your Dr. gave you a handout that was for all his/her patients, it was not customized for you. Some patients have more post op swelling than others and can barely get the required liquids down. Also your Dr might want reduced calories the first few weeks to limit how much your stomach "works" to digest the food for healing purposes. The fact that you lost a lot in one week and nothing the second week is normal. Some people drop steadily, some drop a lot then hit a plateau and then drop again. Sometimes it goes back and forth between the two. If after a month, your Dr does not increase the calories, then I would be concerned. We are all so accustomed to eating so much that we tend to believe we can't survive on 700 calories. there are many threads/polls on the forum about how many calories people are eating a day and it varies between 800 and 1400 on average, if I remember the previous poll results correctly. That will vary with your level of daily activity and exercise. I am over four months out and I eat approx 1000 to 1200 a day. Trust me, I am surviving. I choose healthy foods and I agree that carbs can be good for you, but choosing healthy carbs is the key. Green veggies, whole grain breads, oatmeal, fruit etc. Not so many potatoes, chips, pretzels, white rice, pasta. In the early weeks right after banding, I did keep my protein levels high and limited carbs. The protein does keep me satisfied longer and the hunger at bay.

Welcome! You might want to spend a few mins in the comestic/plastic surgery area. Lots of banders that just had or are scheduled for procedures.

    Fill not working?

Weight loss or gain does not mean you are or are not at your sweet spot. Evaluate what you are able to eat, both type of food and quantity and how long you feel satisified between meals. Can you eat solid Protein? Does a 2 to 4 oz serving with a small serving of veggies keep you satisfied for several hours? if yes, that would be a description of a person's sweet spot. And yes, it should result in weight loss BUT it is possible to gain even at a sweet spot. If it is difficult to get the solid protein down and you resort to softer foods or drinking calories then you might not feel satisfied long enough and eat again sooner. Track your calories and protein. Avoid "drinking" your calories and then re asess.

    Low carb, hi protein

It is generally considered best to eat low gylcemic carbs. you can look up a gylcemic chart online. Basically, the higher gylcemic carbs require our bodies to release more insulin. We get hungrier faster with higher gylcemic foods. Protein, lower gylcemic and higher fiber foods keep us satisified longer. So the carbs that are the best to eat are green veggies, some fruits and whole grains as they add fiber to our diets as well.
