  1. I am purely going by the rules too. 4 Oz is max according to my doctor so even if I don't feel full there I stop. My Dr's program advances quickly. I did puree the first 2 weeks after surgery. Then I saw him, was moved to soft meats, and due to my severe diarrhea he told me to completely stop protein shakes so since week 2 I'm not had a shake. I was worried about not getting my protein in but have found ways to make it work. I certainly could eat more. How much more though, who knows. I don't want to push it, get sick, or hurt. Next week I am on full proteins and can add veggies. At 2 months I can add fruits.

    My painful experience in Mexico

I'm so sorry! I had a kidney stones years ago and to this day it was the worst pain I've ever had. I hope it passes for you soon. On another note, I love reading about you both. I loved following your wife's Mexico story and her picture before surgery. I think it's so wonderful you've gone thru all this together. Take care of yourself and each other!

    Diahrea and incontinense

I had severe diarrhea for 4 weeks straight. It started with my pre op diet. For those 2 weeks and 2 weeks after my surgery I was in constant misery. Several times a day I almost didn't make it. At my 2 week post op Dr visit my doctor stopped the Protein shakes. From that day I never had diarrhea again. I am not lactose intolerant, I was having problems with the make up of the shakes. I was extremely concerned with how severe it is. The instant something entered my mouth I was in the bathroom. I feel for you. I can't see your stats if you have any because I'm on my phone. Talk to your Dr. I am 4 weeks post op and 100% better now. Good luck with finding what works for you. I know how you feel.
  4. Monday I will be 4 weeks out. I can eat 4 Oz per meal. I have only felt full or restricted twice and that was 2 weeks ago. I weigh everything and only eat what's on my plate. I've never thrown up, got hiccups, or felt pain. I am a little disappointed that I don't have one of those sleeves that stops me at 2 or 3 oz, but I am thankful that I seem to have some will power to stop at 4 oz. Or... maybe it's really fear of being sick if I eat more. I am getting minimal 60 oz of protein, 64 oz of water, and range from 550 to 800 calories a day. Some days I am more hungry then others, but I try to stick to the same eating times and same snack choices. I hope I have found my groove.
  5. I was very cold the first 2 weeks after surgery. Since then I have periods of ups and downs. I can easily wear sweaters to work now regularly though without sweating. Before surgery I wore short sleeves year round!

Using the basics forum as a free for all.

I use to focus significantly on this before I had surgery. I was usually always in the pre op forum. Now that I've had surgery though I like to go straight to the "Unread" option on my phone. I find that after surgery the type of procedure that we all had and those differences aren't as important to me as sharing and supporting everyone in their adventure. Regardless of stage or Avenue.

    Very regretful today

I remember wondering if the blood thinner we have to take impacts our first period. I don't know for sure and I never asked but I feel like it's a legit theory!

    Very regretful today

On Monday I will be 4 weeks post op. My period came, like clockwork, when I was just over 2 weeks post op. The week before it start (1 week post op) I GAINED 2 lbs. I stayed there, with a 2 lb gain for 4 days! I am currently in another stall for 5 days. No gain this time but no loss for 5 days either. I down 19 lbs since surgery. I lost 13 lbs in my 2 week pre op diet for an overall total of 32 lbs. I had severe buyers remorse until week 3. I had severe diarrhea, I was in a ridiculous amount of pain. I regretted surgery every second of every day. Then at week 3 I saw my Dr. He stopped the shakes which stopped the diarrhea. I started to notice less pain. Outside of saying things do get better, i will share one thing to hopefully lighten your day. I am left handed. We have this surgery on the majority of our left sides... My first 2 weeks using the rest room were hard enough if you get the left hand/left side pain correlation. But then my period came and made bathroom adventures 100 times more complicated. It was an embarrassing mortifying nightmare. I remember quietly crying sitting there. My husband asking frantically if I am ok. Me trying to explain how badly it hurt to wipe, trying to use my right hand with ZERO coordination. Hang in there

    vitamins

So does mine! And they insist they are a MUST. Three of them a day!!! I am just under 4 weeks post op and I've used them but it's not been long enough to have blood work done. Interesting enough I must admit something. I have taken vitamins forever. Since taking these vitamins my finger nails are much stronger and grow much faster. I am not sure if it's just a coincidence but it is starting to make me question the effectiveness of the women's one a day I had been taking prior.

    Worried

I had the sleeve on Nov 16th and have had mini stalls twice already. Once after the first week for 4 days, and once this week. The first one I had a 2 lb gain. This time I've been at the same weight for 5 days. I'm totally not sweating it. Is it annoying? For sure. But I know there is no feasible way that I've gained, nor is there no way in mathematical terms that I'm not losing. I'm burning way more calories than I am consuming. It happens. Don't sweat it. Your body just needs to catch up.

    Prior Abdominal Surgery

I've had 4 abdominal surgeries. 2 horizontal csections, 1 vertical csection, and a laproscopic gall bladder removal. My surgery went off with out a hitch. I did have some extensive pain for the first 2 weeks due to all the scar tissue my doctor had to go thru. I will be 4 weeks post op on Monday and most pain is gone. Hope everything goes well for you.

    Denied

Normally I don't engage in conflicting opinions because everyone has their own but felt I needed to share the other side of yours. In today's economy there are many people who live pay check to pay check. A few thousand dollars doesn't come easy in today's world unfortunately. The frustration for people to think they'll have insurance coverage then realize they don't and be faced with the prospect of raising this money on their own is overwhelming and frankly they have the right to be sad and frustrated. Your way isn't always possible. I like your thought, it's just not always viable. Especially not in a quicker time frame which most are aiming for.

    I won't regret this...right?

I will be 4 weeks post op on Monday(gastric sleeve). I can say today my regrets have diminished. That said, I will tell you that for the first 2 weeks I regretted the surgery every day. I had a lot of pain. My Doctor told me I had a lot of scar tissue from 4 prior abdominal surgies, 3 c sections ( 2 horizontal and 1 vertical) and a gall bladder removal. I also had non stop severe diarrhea. I was miserable. Weeks three was a turning point for me. I feel better, my pain has significantly decreased, my doctor stopped the shakes which were causing my diarrhea... It is interesting to not be controlled by food. Sure I feel hungry sometimes. I use to come home from work angry and starving. Now I come home from work like a normal person. Last night I did some household chores before I realized I hadn't ate dinner. You will feel a few days or weeks of regret. Some people do, probably most people. But believe me. It fades. I even told my Dr I regretted it. I was so unhappy. But then if got better. Be honest with yourself. Accept it might suck for a little while. Have a good support team. You'll be just fine. Take care!

    Accutane users!

I didn't know that Accutane was prescribed any more. I would definitely let your Dr's figure this out and go with their recommendations. I am not a stringent type personality, but that is one drug I wouldn't take risks with. Please remember if your surgery is delayed it is for your safety. I know it feels frustrating but rushing wouldn't be worth the risks. Please let the Dr's work together and figure out timing. Best of luck and hang in there.
  15. You can always drink plain Water. You don't have to use sweetener. As far as the Protein shakes, there are a lot of variety out there. Try different things. There are some unflavored ones that you can add to broth. I used Protein Shakes after surgery briefly. I had severe diarrhea from them them and had to stop them. I am able to get my protein goals daily without them. I am 3 weeks post op.

    Muscle Egg

I love the egg protein. I used it extensively during pre op diet. I wasn't able to continue though because I realized the type I was using lacked several vitamins and couldn't be considered a meal replacement. They do taste great though and if I have a day where I don't get enough protein in I drink one before bed. The chocolate tastes like chocolate milk to me.

    First Post Op Check :)

We are the same. Same surgery date. Same lose since surgery. Same lose since pre op. Since summer I am down about 39lbs. I was worried about losing slowly too only being down 15 but they said I'm doing great? I have been struggling with severe Diarrhea for 4 weeks ( 2 weeks pre op 2 weeks post op). Yesterday the Dr gave me the green light to stop the Protein shakes and introduce regular protein including dairy. I already feel so much better and the diarrhea has already stopped Thank God. I'm glad you posted, makes me feel better. I see some people already down 25lbs since surgery, same day as us. Every one is different. Have you started foods yet? I weighed out 4 Oz of roasted chicken last night. I fully expected to only be able to eat 2 Oz. I ate it all. I have only felt restriction twice (during pureed stage). I've never thrown up. Im not complaining. Weighing my food will just have to be my way of life though because I don't have one of the sleeves that stops me after an Oz or two.
  18. Good lord. I went in with it, and was assured it was from the pre op diet, but never expected to come out with it. I heard all the stories of people not able to go for days, yet the day after surgery I came out firing... literally. I think my lack of gall bladder does this but just curious if anyone else had experience.
  19. I'm heart broken for you. Please stay positive. May angels be with all of you.
  20. Has anybody attend this? I am curious if they weigh you during this class.
  21. My Surgeon said nothing besides walking for 5 weeks so definitely double check with yours

Nauseous 24 hours a day. Is this normal?

I was nauseous for about 6 days post op. After that it started to get better. Today I am 9 days. Hang in there
  23. My surgery is Monday. I have really fought a battle thru the months leading up to this with my relationship with food. Although I'm sure that is a battle that will live to see another day, I want to hear your advice on exercise. My personal experience this far is that I don't love it. Before I got heavy I didn't enjoy it. Don't get me wrong, I can and do walk a few miles regularly, I can and will exercise on an elliptical for 45 minutes, but I have never enjoyed it. Or looked forward to it. I don't expect that to change with surgery. Or does it? What have you done to get yourself motivated. Do you like to exercise now?

    Low heart rate?

Any update on your heart rate? Mine was also in the 90s prior to surgery and now it's in the 60s and dips to low 50s overnight. I am 9 days post op.
