Pills...anyone?
HopeandAgony replied to Roberto Molina's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Did your surgeon tell you that you had to crush them? I was swallowing pills handed to me by the hospital staff day 2 post op. -
Protien shake is not my friend :(
HopeandAgony replied to 3283's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi. Sorry I am just seeing this. I had severe diarrhea the entire time I was on Protein shakes (I tried several different kinds). Pre op and post op. At my 2 week post op appt my doctor advised me to stop the Protein Shakes altogether. I am not lactose intolerant or allergic to them, my body just wanted nothing to do with them. Make sure you talk to your Doctor. There is no reason to suffer thru it. I hope you feel better soon. -
How long before you felt normal again?
HopeandAgony replied to destiny_77's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The first 2 weeks for me were very rough. I was miserable. The 3rd week I started to feel better. I didn't feel fully 100% myself with no residual pain until week 5. I had a ton of scar tissue from 4 prior abdominal surgeries so I had some extensive lingering pain. Weeks 3 to 5 weren't horrible, I just wasn't 100% yet. Week 5 was a life changer for me. I am now almost 7 weeks post op and better than ever. Hang in there. It's a rough go for a while. Keep drinking. Best advice I have. -
Congrats! I feel excited for you!! Seeing something in the 1s is what I can't wait for. I am 15 lbs away and super excited.

Pregnancy before or after surgery?
HopeandAgony replied to malpal8629's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is a very personal decision with many factors. Only you and your Dr know if pregnancy will be possible for you at your weight. How many months are you willing to try to get pregnant before feeling like you should have opted for the surgery first? I've been blessed in that my weight didn't impact my ability to conceive. I waited until after I was done having kids to have this surgery. Weigh the pros and cons and map out a time line that includes what ifs. Maybe decide you want to try for a few months and if no pregnancy focus on surgery? You can still get prepared for surgery during your few months of trying. Good luck. -
I am only 5 weeks post op. During pre op I lost 13 lbs. In the 5 weeks since surgery I've lost 23 lbs, for a total loss of 36 lbs. I am not freaking out about a stall. I am already noticing a trend that I haven't seen addressed or been able to find and was wondering if anyone else had something similar. It seems like I lose 3 to 5 lbs in a week, then lose nothing for a week (or .5 a lb in a week). This has been going on since the first week after surgery. The first week I lost 12 lbs (I was very sick). It's so peculiar to me. Did anyone elses body be so weird? I am sitting at the same weight for 8 days now. I know stalls are normal and necessary, but every other week?

Anyone urinate blood after sleeve?
HopeandAgony replied to amandasue's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Definitely call the Dr. Try not to panic. There are non urgent things that can cause this also but it needs to be checked. If you had a catheter and they scraped you a little raw a little bit of blood can look like a lot in water. That said, please be seen. Better safe than sorry. -
7 Weeks Out & Can Barely Eat
HopeandAgony replied to Charlotte3's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am only 5 weeks post op but have been reading a lot. Do you think it's possible you have a stricture? The symptoms sounds similar to what you describe. Please call your Dr. I believe they can do a dilation to correct that if that's what is causing your issue. If it's not that you need to be seen. You can't go on like this. Good luck and keep us posted. -
Tell me about odd weight loss patterns
HopeandAgony replied to HopeandAgony's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thanks. That helps. It feels just weird to me! I change nothing from week to week. The first week it happened I was like what the heck! My 3 weeks stall came early. Then it happened again and I was like seriously... I've see so many posts on stalling, and I am fully aware that can still easily happen at any time. I've seen people who feel like they lose slow, or even fast, but not this funky every other week pattern! -
Tell me about odd weight loss patterns
HopeandAgony replied to HopeandAgony's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thanks for replying. It's not making me crazy, I've just not seen anyone else say anything similar. At first I thought I was stalling every other week but I don't think that's right. I think it's just the way I am going to lose and wanted to know if anyone experienced losing this way as well. I'd like to know if they did lose this way does it continue like this? -
4 Days PostOp- DH is So Sick! :(
HopeandAgony replied to FL_Buckeye's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was very sick for 6 days post op. I am a female, only 5'4" and was 243 lbs the day of surgery, so I definitely don't match his description. I had the same issue. Lots of dry heaving. I was in a ton of pain and had severe diarrhea. The Dr did send me in on day 3 for a study to make sure there were no leaks, which there wasn't. I wish I could tell you something helped but I never figured it out. Day 7 I woke up with no dry heaves, and never had one again. My pain was significant for the next week, but then started to fade. Tomorrow I am 5 weeks post op and feel 100% normal. Though I have no valuable advice, just reassure him it does get better. Hopefully it's right around the corner for him too. I regretted my choice every day for 2 weeks, if he feels that too its normal due to how we feel. I no longer have regret. It does get better. My best wishes to you both! -
Did you say "what did I do" !
HopeandAgony replied to Scottyd1264's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I regretted every second of every day for 2 weeks. Now that I am almost 5 weeks out I have no regrets. -
While Christmas shopping last night with the hubby I saw a sweater that caught my eye. It was in an expensive store with an expensive price tag. I had previously made the decision to NOT buy any clothing (except from goodwill or cheap resale shops) while I lose weight. This is important to me since I am only a month out and 1) I wasn't sure I've lost enough to need new clothes and 2) What's the point of spending now when I plan to lose weight for several more months. So I walked with this sweater (regular ladies size xl) for like an hour (normally I am a 2x). I just wouldn't put it down. I finally found my husband and asked him to hold my stuff so I could try it on over my existing shirt. I pulled it over my head and before I even had it pulled down I was like "nope to small still". It wasn't even on yet and I was shooting it down. I finished pulling it down and it fit. Nicely. And my husband said "honey, that's definitely not to small, but it sure is ugly". LOL. I couldn't help but burst out laughing. I never did look in the mirror but he never says things like that so it must have been bad! Either way I felt good. I'm still chuckling.

Watching others eat. Revulsion.
HopeandAgony replied to Emilie.Lancaster's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am in that boat. I feel so judgemental. I don't mean to, and I hate thinking it, but I am constantly watching others eat. There is so much time at the table now. I eat slower, and much less of course. I am not sitting down starving and shoveling it in, but others are. And I was one of them. Very recently. I am only a month out and I am always amazed when I see how fast others eat and realize I use to be one of the first people done and on my way to seconds. Very eye opening. -
So..........6 month check up
HopeandAgony replied to grandmaofone's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Your Dr sounds like a ****** bag. 54 lbs in 6 months is something to be proud of. I would call and ask for the office manager, let them know what happened, and ask if you can safely transition your care going forward to your primary care doctor. Forget what he said. Hugs -
Struggle to keep down multivitamins
HopeandAgony replied to nikisa's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am suppose to take 3 a day. I got the OK from my Dr to take them all at once. So now I take them right before bed with a little yogurt. If I don't take them will food I get all the symptoms of being about to throw up. This is the only way I've found that works for me. I am 4 weeks post op. They must be working because my hair and nails are growing like crazy. -
I've been very fortunate. I've not had any issues with any food. I am just over 4 weeks post op. Have you tried it cooked a different way? I like mine over easy. They are such a good source of protein I hope you can figure it out. Good luck!

This has been a conversation that one of those snickers commercials could be made off of. Not trying to agitate you more but wowza. There was never a rude intention behind it, but I did get a giggle from your reply. Feelings behind typed words can be difficult to decipher. No worries. -
Interesting! So you have your gall bladder? I ask because I had mine removed in 2009 and that is the one food that I cannot eat since it got removed. I have immediate dumping if I eat a salad now. Or raw mushroom. So weird!

I have done my homework, however, it's always more to learn which is why I asked her the question and posted this topic in the first place. And I already know the employer has to cover bariatric surgery ... so Please don't be rude we are all up here to learn and help others. I don't need anyone telling me what I need to do homework in. Maybe you should read more carefully, and go back and read other post before making these type comments. Thanks in advance! Seriously? Rude? Yikes... That is a first for sure. Employers don't have to cover Bariatric surgery but it sounds like you've got it under control. Good luck in your journey. -

BCBS IL P. P. O. Doesn't require a 6 month diet. BCBS IL H. M. O. Does requires a 3 month monitored diet. There are different requirements depending on the network. Additionally, if your BCBS IL P.P.O. is employer covered it is possible that your employer had elected to NOT cover bariatric surgery so please do your homework. -
I was taking pills one day post op in the hospital. Never had an issue.
