Surgery was 11/16 - When do the morning dry heaves stop?
HopeandAgony posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Every morning I wake up dry heaving. Today I didn't bring anything up but the other days I have. It's very painful and happens the moment I sit up. -

Thanks. I'm 8 days post op and got a little worried today for no reason. I'm mushing chicken and tuna but not eggs or cottage cheese. I'm sure he told me we didn't have to. I think I'm overly anxious from being tired. -

1 week post op...350 calories?
HopeandAgony posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi. I will be calling the surgeon tomorrow. Today I tracked my food as I was back at work. I was shocked to realize I am only getting about 350 calories a day. This really freaked me out. Is this normal?? My Dr only suggests 1 protein shake a day. I am eating broth, cottage cheese and an egg Or chicken or tuna. I cannot possibly fit any more in. Can a body live on such little calories. In all my meetings with the surgeon I just realized today we never have talked about calories. -

2 shakes per day and for dinner you can have 4 oz lean meat and half cup of veggies. You can have broth, sugar free jello, or popcicles twice a day to help with hunger. -

Thanks. Right after I posted this the dry heaving stopped. I haven't taken pain pills nor did I ever start the Zofran he called in for me. Funny how that all worked out! ! Now if I can get this diarrhea under control I'd feel fantastic. -
15 days post op with chronic diarrhea
HopeandAgony replied to PlBren's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 8 days post op and in the same boat. I've talked to my surgeon. Unfortunately some of us react this way. Mine has nothing to do with lactose intolerance. My surgeon feels mine is from the Protein shakes and has encouraged me to cut them out completely. I told him I was worried about my protein goal and he agreed to let me continue with 1 a day. That being said I still have diarrhea. I have found if I use benefiber in my first shake of the day I have less diarrhea. Once my stomach allows i will be cutting protein shakes. Hang in there. -
1 week post op...350 calories?
HopeandAgony replied to HopeandAgony's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon actually doesn't want me using protein shakes, but if I need to I can use one a day. No more than that. He also believes they are significantly contributing to my diarrhea which is why he told me to stop them altogether. I wish I could have 2 a day! I actually don't mind them. Today I am going to add unflavored protein powder to my cottage cheese and my chicken/mayo. It should bring me up over 60 grams. -

Thanks. I was about to have a panic attack envisioning my body going into organ failure (yes I am worst case scenario about everything!). I am racking my brain how to get more calories. I will add some protein powder to my cottage cheese and broth. -

I had the sleeve. No drain. You do the shot in the hospital and 3 days at home. It's a piece of cake. -
November Sleevers
HopeandAgony replied to brittneywlsj's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My first day home my sugeon moved me to pureed. So I tried it Thursday (my surgery was Monday). He considers both eggs and cottage cheese pureed foods. I have also pureed tuna and chicken with mayo. The first week of December I see him, and will be moved to "soft foods". Since he considers eggs and cottage cheese pureed I'm confused what is considered soft, but I am guessing I won't have to puree my chicken or Tuna anymore. Then at 1 month I move to all meats and get to add veggies. Can't wait! My plan is MUCH different than what I've read a lot on here. I didn't have to do weeks of liquids. I am also not allowed juices. Nothing with a tomato base either. No mashed taters either... I am bummed because I LOVE tomato Soup and chili. Refried Beans...yum!! Everyone on here talked so much about them but they aren't on my plan, not yet anyway!... sigh -
November Sleevers

Lol @ MojoCAMI. I too have named my sleeve. Sami M Sleeve. Stands for Small Angry Monster Inside Me. I am 7 days post op. Sami and I had a very rough first 5 days. There was no love lost to say the least. The minute my feet would hit the floor every morning Sami declared war. He likes to fill my mouth with saliva. And then, just to show me he is in charge he would make me dry heave a few times. This was my warning to do as he says or he can and will make me puke. So far I've not disobeyed. The last two days we seem to be becoming more cordial. No dry heaving, and I've not vomited, but every once and a while he sends the saliva as a reminder. I've been keeping him very hydrated. 70 to 90 Oz of Fluid a day. At first he insisted on only egg whites, but he has since decided I can have the yolk too. He also hated cottage cheese, but now he craves it. Protein shakes he is good with. I'm sure we will have more encounters as our relationship grows. He talks a lot of smack. I usually give him a drink to shut him up. What are you eating in the soft stage?? -
This was my breakfast couldn't eat the jello, or drink crystal light i was so nauseous
HopeandAgony replied to scarlep's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi there. Tomorrow is a week and I am happy to tell you I am doing good. My taste buds are back to normal ( I too thought the Jello was WAY TOO SWEET then... but now it tastes normal again). I have incision pain still but it feels better every day. I got my hunger back but my sleeve is already telling me when to stop. I still have diarrhea so today I added some benefiber. I am hoping it helps. Please hang in there. I was in bad shape. I started feeling alive again yesterday and today I actually went grocery shopping. Tomorrow I'm heading back to work. You'll be good soon -
Post op day day 3
HopeandAgony replied to aleja908's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have Norco - but I haven't needed it the past few days. When I was taking it though I did not crush it up. It was fine. I am a week tomorrow and my largest incision still hurts but it is a little less sore every day. I went to the grocery store today and did a full shopping trip. My husband did all the heavy lifting but I don't see why you couldn't go out on thanksgiving. Just see how you feel. Good luck. -

Protein intake vs. being full?
HopeandAgony replied to ForLfKlovr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon said listen to your body, and also gave us a time limit to eat (20 minutes). Have you tried to add some unflavored protein powder to foods to bump up your protein intake? -

Feeling sad and cold
HopeandAgony replied to smcbee79's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am so sorry about your mom. I too struggle with the holidays and having that happen to you at that time must make things that much harder. Just know she is in a better place. I love that you put up your tree already!!! I wanted to too. I even asked my husband to do it while I was gone. He insisted on waiting for me (though I am sure he just didn't wanna deal with it...lol). I wish mine was up. We are in the winter storm here too. I'm near Chicago. We have about 6 inches on the ground so far. I love it. I will make my first trip out of the house tomorrow to wander the grocery store. Back to work on Monday for me. I totally don't think I am ready but I am going to go back and see what happens. Your career sounds exciting and rewarding. And extremely physical. How long will you be off for?? I am a glutton for punishment with this scale. I tell myself all the time not to get on it but I can't help myself. I might ask my husband to hide the damn thing. -

Feeling sad and cold
HopeandAgony replied to smcbee79's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hugs. I'm chilly too. Haven't sweat once since surgery which is unheard of. What do you think looks different? I've been very worried about the flood of emotions I heard will release. I have OCD and am on an SSRI for it. So far I've been in good spirits despite the nausea, but I am sorry you are sad. I think we will continue to go thru a roller coaster of emotions. Just sit back and try to enjoy the ride. Since our surgeries were the same day do you want to share stories? I will go first! I am a 38 year old mother. I also work a very demanding and rewarding full time career. Through out school I was never the skinny girl... I was more the athletic girl. In high school when I started dating I started to gain a little weight here and there. After graduation was up to 185. From there the scale steadily climbed for the next 20 years. I am 5'4" tall and my highest weight was 265. When I started my 3 month monitored weight loss program in April I was 256. When I saw the surgeon in August I was 248. From then thru October I gained weight... crept back up to 256! When I started my pre op diet 2 weeks before surgery i was terrifed i wouldnt get down to under 248... to my own amazement i lost 14 lbs and on the Day of surgery I was 241. This morning I am 233. Like I've said though I am very nauseous and struggling to eat. I make sure I get my fluid and try to replenish anything I think I lose from diarrhea. It's been an adventure! Tell me about you -
Can you have too much protein?
HopeandAgony replied to Kitty112415's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thanks for this. I was considering switching because it's such a smaller "dose". I tried adding unflavored Isopure protein to broth and it altered the taste. I only used half a scope and it made my toes curl in a bad way. I might try it again now that I'm a few days out. -
Patch vitamins - has anyone gotten approval from their Surgeon?
HopeandAgony replied to HopeandAgony's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
They are interesting IF they work. My Dr sells a vitamin that he of course says is required, that it has everything needed, but I have to take 3 of them a day. I know he will NEVER recommend another vitamin so I am curious if anyone else's Dr has. I would love to stop his vitamin because I believe they are causing me a lot of nausea and diarrhea. But I don't want to go against him either as I do trust me.
