Can you eat dates? Can you eat Agave syrup?
BigViffer replied to MozzaWehsha's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I love dates! I don't eat them often because of the sugar/carbs, but I do eat them regularly. My new favorite way is to dip them on Peanut Butter. Sent from my phone, please forgive brevity and misspelling -

Since @@BigTink2LilTink upped the ante for Beefcake in this thread, I had to rise to the challenge and take a new picture myself: -
Figured I would post an updated picture. My weight hasn't changed much since my last pictures were taken, but I think my definition is getting better. I believe the last picture of me in the white shirt is from December 2015 and this is from today:

I think this is one of those subjects that is just overthought, over analyzed, and beaten to death. I think relationships in general can be handled with just two guidelines: 1 - Do unto others as you would have them do unto you 2 - Say what you mean, mean what you say. If you can't do those two things consistently, all the letter writing, therapy, and group hugs in the world will not amount for anything in the long haul.

If you are having problems getting the hydration needed after surgery, then hot yoga is not only a bad idea but a dangerous one. Once you are getting 100 oz of Water a day, then revisit it.

I knew what it was as soon as you described it. I had one then my wife did not even a year later. She took back everything she said about me being a wuss! Get better soon! -
Still in pain, dizzy, and worried
BigViffer replied to LMSWNYC's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a very difficult time dealing with this issue for months after surgery. And to be honest, it still appears sometimes now a year later. I was literally a walking zombie after surgery until they took me off my BP meds. That helped quite a bit. But what really helped was becoming acutely aware of my Fluid intake and regular checking of my BP. Go to Walmart or a Meijer or whatever and buy a blood pressure cuff. They have battery operated ones that are fairly accurate. When you are feeling dizzy, check your BP. Then get at least 32 oz of fluid in you as quickly and comfortably as you can. Wait 20 min and check it again. I'll bet it was lower when dizzy than after the fluid. I am just now able to get 100 oz of fluid a day. If I don't get close to that, I can get dizzy pretty easily when standing up. -

I luckily haven't dated in years, but one thing I will pass on that I firmly believe; aim high. Never put a person on a pedestal because many times that person is just wanting someone to approach them. I dated several women that should have been out of my league, but men never asked them out for fear of rejection. Also, don't forget to focus on yourself. Workout because you want to look good as well as feel good. Buy one thing for yourself every month. Doesn't have to be something expensive, maybe a shirt or dress or even a knick-knack for the house. Do things that improve your life and your self image/confidence. A pretty woman like yourself paired with confidence can conquer the world.

I'm going to buck the trend here and say avoid the personal trainer. More often than not, in my experience they are teaching either outdated or dangerous exercises. I would seek out a physical therapist, more specifically a sports medicine therapist.

How to get my muscles back?
BigViffer replied to Sexy Granny's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The only way to "get them back" is to replace the fat that was there with something. If it is going to be muscle, the only way to do that is to overload the muscles through work. So called "toning" won't do anything. Another very important thing to understand is that you can't just go out and start doing squats and lunges and build muscle without injuring yourself. You need to increase the bone density of your legs and hips to accommodate the weight necessary to overload the muscle. It will take time too, not just a few months. If you set a goal, set it for a year to be realistic. -

No problem dipping in on this conversation. Since it is not a sensitive subject no one should object. I posted this in the Guy's Room to foster a generally more male POV and to also increase content in this section. But of course anyone can use the information.

Hmmm... some pictures came through but not others. When I tried to fix it, I got an error from the forum that I am not allowed to use that image extension error. I'll look into it later.

Before And After Gastric Sleeve Surgery Photos
BigViffer replied to StacyS's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
A compliment I am humbled to hear, thank you very much! Now, as a recovering shoulder surgery patient I want to go on record right now and say this, I never do bench presses. Ever. While they are good for the pectorals, they are terrible for the shoulder (rotator cuff especially), and there are much better exercises for the chest! Also, I don't do heavy weights at all. The biggest dumbell I use is 35lbs.Tops.If I need more weight, I switch to bands or bodyweight exercises. I am terrified of another sport injury. That's where many of my troubles came from. If you want a good chest workout, you need to focus on the cable machine and only use the dumbbells for incline chest press and regular chest press. Using dumbbells allow for your shoulder to move naturally as opposed to locking it into an unnatural position. If you would be interested, I could write down my exercise routine (roughly) and start a thread. I make no claims of being a fitness guru nor a therapist, but what I do I got from my physical therapist and then from a sports medicine therapist I found online.
