I'm going to second @@OKCPirate suggestion of yoga. It has really helped me with several joint issues. As for a good core exercise, I am going to recommend bodyweight squats and reverse lunges. Using no additional weights, you will use everything from your chest down in each squat/lunge. Legs, butt, abs, and back are all engaged for those exercises. You may want to look into Pilates as well, but there are some pretty strenuous abs movements and lots of planking.

OK, you'll have to clue me in. I don't get the reference. Comedian?.. Sent from my phone, please forgive brevity and misspelling

Oh, and for those considering watching Babylon 5, Andreas Katsulas (G'Kar) reading soliloquies written by J. Micheal Strazinski (the show creator and writer, abbreviated to JMS by his fans) by the end of season 3 are the stuff of legends and awards. What is really funny, you will see where Star Trek DS9 ripped off JMS. JMS originally pitched the idea to Berman and the studio and they shot him down. So he left the show and made his own. They still had the show bible and stole from it whenever they needed. Dick move Berman.

Oh man, I LOVED the reimagining of BSG! Until the writer strike. After that, they even admitted that they didn't know WTF they were doing. I hated the last season and the series finale was enough to ruin the entire show for me. It all started so well too. Great mythos, seemingly one long story arc... ugh. I literaly ordered cable TV for that show and would cancel my service after the season end. I haven't had so much as an antenna hooked up to my TV since 2007 with the exception of that show until it's end. Even though I didn't like the last 1.5 season, I was already committed.

I have to agree with your friend on that count. If you are not already a fan, check out Babylon 5. IMO, best sci-fi space opera ever put on TV are seasons 1-4. You have to forgive the tight budget they had in the beginning, but there is no doubt that the acting and story arc blows away any of the Star Treks.

Huge Star Trek fan here. I have all of the series on DVD. Just can't seem to get my kids interested though. Oh, but I am no where near NJ!

Are guys actually checking me out at the gym?

Gonna gave to call BS on that Babbs. I saw your picture recently; you're getting checked out all the time whether you know it or not. -
I've got a squatty potty and it helps. But honestly the only thing that I *know* works is real fiber. Shredded wheat, apricots, figs, prunes, and fresh vegetables. On a high protein diet like mine, they get neglected all too often.

lol, this craving is funny to me. I had the exact same one. As a matter of fact, a hot wing was the first "normal" food I had after my surgeon gave the all clear. I took the kids to BW3's and grabbed one of their wings. And then I promptly threw it back up. I haven't craved a wing since. Now I will have shredded or canned chicken with wing sauce, but not a proper wing. I liken it to that time you get really drunk on bourbon and puked. You'll never drink it again. So it is with the chicken wing.

I buy Fage plain yogurt and flavor it with any of the syrups. Then I'll stick them in the freezer until they are just about solid. Stir it up as best as I can, boom! Froyo!

Me too! If I ever get married, it will be a miracle, because I'm way too intimidated to flirt. Oh, I don't think you will suffer single life too long. Just flash that smile from your avatar and the men will come running. -
Not knowing your pre-surgery conditions, I'll just speak of my own experiences. I am over a year out and I still cannot do burpees (squat thrusts). Ever since surgery, my blood pressure is just low. When I jump up too fast I get extremely light-headed. Like, to the point of passing out. I have to really make sure I have some sodium and tons of Water the day I am doing anything that requires going from prone to standing. Anything involving your core you need to take it easy on. Don't try and build muscle while still healing. All of your limited Protein intake is going towards healing at the moment.

Man, I lived off of jerky for months! I needed the sodium to help bring my BP back up. But alas, I have to agree with everyone else. Sugar has to be lower than that. Sweet Baby Rays uses corn syrup which breaks down quickly and requires more for the same level of sweetness as real sugar or honey. Keep looking, you'll find something you like and is a good jerky. However, I would also like to add one thing. Don't focus on sugar in one meal, more like the entire day. If you only have 20 grams the entire day, who cares if it all came from one or two items? Unless of course you get the dreaded dumping syndrome. Ugh... I had an iced coffee once that made me want to die!

There are three types that hit on me. Men, Silver Sneakers, and recent divorcees. It's always flattering, but it's not always what you are wanting! -
I just tried pull-ups again on shoulder day. Pitiful. Just pitiful. I really don't know if I will be able to do it by next February, it's that bad!

As a person that works in advertising and father of two daughters, I found this pretty funny in a satirical way. I always comment on these things to my daughters telling them to how they are trash mags:

Isn't that the truth Ryan! My mesh jacket that I bought last summer was tight. Now it is definitely too big. Back to craigslist...

In all seriousness; that is not only rude, but it's f_cking creepy as hell. I'd have got up in his face to find out what his issue is. Good looking man/woman doesn't excuse it either. When I say I check someone out, it's a simple up and down look and then back to what I was doing. I don't go to the gym to make friends or pick up chicks. Of course, my wife would have my head if I tried to pick up women... -

Well I'd sure as hell be checking you out! -
Hey guys - I wanted to post an update to this thread. Another NSV for me. The deadlift is a damned hard exercise for several reasons. First off, you are lifting dead weight off the floor. Secondly form is so incredibly important in order to avoid injury. That is paramount to me since my entire weight issue started with an injury. Well I am happy to say that today I set a personal best deadlift record; 185lbs! Back feels good as do my knees. Sure my legs are tired, but there is no pain. I am roughly 25lbs from my deadlift goal of my body weight. I should totally be able to accomplish that by my year two anniversary. Hopefully my pull-up will fall into line soon too!

Oh, almost forgot... hummus! It was OK before my surgery, now it is almost a daily part of my diet. Beans are really good for you. -

I think your NUT is crazy. Ice cream, milkshakes & the like are slider foods and completely empty calories. Fat & sugar will either upset your stomach at best or cause dumping & sliming at worse. Soft cheeses, cottage cheese, Peanut Butter, and greek yogurt are a much better choice. Instead of the 0% greek yogurt, go for the regular. Hell, have some guacamole, it's loaded with good fats. Drink whole milk for your Fluid intake. Just do your best on getting quality calories, not just hitting the number. It will come in time. -
The swing arm on a motorcycle is what hold the rear suspension and rear wheel on the bike. Honda was the first to put it into production on a sportbikes. Ducati soon followed then Triumph. BMW did have one in the late 70's/early 80's on a UJM, but it was plagued with failures. Traditional swingarms go on both sides of the wheel and an axle runs between them. If you look at the rear wheel of my picture, you will see that it has 5 lug nuts like a car wheel. The Triumph and Ducat's have a single nut. In racing, a single sided swingarm allows for faster tire changes.

Pfft! That's a bunch of bunk and I can prove it. What hurts more; childbirth or a kick in the nuts? Women will almost universally scoff and say that the birthing process obviously hurts more. But whens the last time you heard a man say to anyone, " I want another kick in the balls"?!
