Oops, forgot the main point of my post! If you weigh out 3 oz of something, say scrambled eggs. You can't finish it in the 20 minutes of breakfast, but you do end up finishing it an hour later; it falls within the same time period of your labels and your measurement is still valid.
-
Just in case you don't know; on the MyFitnessPal app/website you can change the default labels. You are not stuck with Breakfast / lunch / dinner / Snacks. I changed mine to A - 6 Am To 12 Pm B - 12 Pm To 5 Pm C - 5 Pm To 10 Pm D - 10 Pm - 6 Am The reason for the letters in front is when I scrape the HTML from the webpage and put it into my spreadsheet, the times are kept in order. I also label my tracker calorie modifier as E - Exercise. The benefit of tracking the times of the day as opposed to the meals is that there were instances where my lunch was as early as 11 or as late as 3. So was that a lunch or a snack? Or if I had a snack between breakfast and a snack after dinner, I couldn't go back a month later and see where/when I was eating too many calories, etc...

Is 100 grams of protein too much for a woman?
BigViffer replied to Heather I's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It's really going to depend on your lifestyle and activity level down the road. If you are extremely busy, exercising a lot or even doing serious weight lifting, then 100 grams is pretty good. If you are just going to be average adult activity with family life, then you can go for 60 - 80 grams. -
Let me save you the trouble, stop now. Only women understand women; and they hate each other.

There are any number of reasons you can give people for not drinking. Pick one and stick to it. If you haven't tried alcohol yet (and you shouldn't have), in front of people is not a good place to experiment. Alcohol is sugar, sugar leads to dumping. Dumping can lead to sweating, drooling, foaming, vomiting, and severe abdominal cramps. I'm sure this was said just recently and repeated ad nauseam... Just don't do it. You have the rest of your life to drink. Take a year off and let your body get back to good. Sent from my phone. Please forgive brevity and spelling.

VET'S FORUM. What the %^&* is going on around here?
BigViffer replied to LipstickLady's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
Honestly, it's why I have just not been active. There are so many people who are attention whores, drama king/queen, or outright arseholes that I just don't feel the need to help anyone. I'd go as far as saying that I actually want some of these people to fail very publicly. The blatantly stupid post and questions often have me scratching my head. There is no way they could have had the surgery and not been told some of these things. More likely they were just sitting in the office daydreaming about ways to eat around the surgery before ever having it. The only thing keeping me here is the Guy's Room. I don't know any men that have had gastric surgery and this is the only place that I can ask IF I eventually have a question I can't get answered on my own or from my surgeon. Don't try and save anyone @@LipstickLady, most likely they aren't worth the effort. -
RNY and Erectile Dysfunction
BigViffer replied to hectorlopez323's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh man, getting off of the BP meds took care of all of my problems. And of course the improved circulation helps of course. I was never diagnosed with ED, but I know there were times when the mid was willing but the body was not. -
Dr says I won't lose another 100lbs
BigViffer replied to PissiChrissi's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
In the first 6 months I lost 70-ish lbs and my surgeon was thrilled with my progress. He said that I would most likely bottom out at 220. I was hoping for the magical 199 by my 1 year mark, but I fell I a little short of my goal but beat his estimate. At the 1 year mark I had lost another 40 lbs for about a 110 lbs loss. So while he said you may not lose the same amount of weight in the same amount of time, I am pretty sure that he didn't mean that it will never happen. I ended up bottoming out at 197 lbs. Since then, I have gained back about 10 lbs of what I hope to be lean muscle mass. Don't focus on the time frame or even the weight. Focus on the lifestyle changes and how you physically feel! -

Thats actually debunked many times. The rates at which protein is metabolized varies as does where it is completely broken down by our bodies. Add to that that no two people are the same. Will an accountant and a linebacker both only be able to use 30 gm's of protein? According to this study: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/10867039 Whether you eat an entire days worth of protein in one meal or spread over 3 meals throughout the day makes little difference to our body. The main thing you should focus on is a daily goal. If you need 60 grams of protein a day, just focus on that. Don't worry if you get it all in the morning or at one meal.

*Generally* speaking, men have greater muscle mass than women. So we are capable of burning fat more quickly than women. That being said, if you don't do as you are instructed by your surgeon you will most likely not lose as quickly as the average male.

OK, it's been a while guys. We need some more activity up in this here thread. Tonight was a big evening for me. I have a bunch of s h i t going on right now so I have hit the weights with a heightened sense of focus. And it is finally paying off. I got my deadlift up to 225lbs! Not the greatest quality, but it is from my form check video. I got my squat up to 185lbs, but my form check video showed that I was not getting deep enough, so I lowered the weight and and just trying to teach my body the form until it is muscle memory. Personally, super proud of this deadlift accomplishment. And yeah, I am kinda happy with how my chest, traps, and shoulders look! @@BigTink2LilTink @Dub... I haven't heard from you guys in a while. How goes the progress? Avoiding injury I hope!

Exercise program while nursing a herniated disc
BigViffer replied to Genr2d2's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I know it may sound funny, but Yoga has been a huge help to me. The reason I had the gastric surgery in the first place was because my back surgeon said he would cut on me unless I was 100lbs lighter. So surgery first, recovery and exercise, then started yoga. I am happy to report that the incredible pain I was in prior to surgery is gone and I rarely have spasms or shooting pain in my back/legs. I will still have to have the surgery eventually, but I probably gave myself another 5-10 years. -
Oh, I meant to mention it - properly performed squats are good for the knees If you can, go to the library and look for a book called Starting Strength. I'm not telling you to do that routine (it's brutal) but there is a chapter on the squat that discusses how the posterior chain is involved in the squat as well as how when the bar path is vertical and your stance is proper, the knees are protected. So even if you start with nothing but a broomstick (like I did), squatting would be a very good idea.
-
I've replied to this question many times over the past year. Allow me to quote myself: I think you get the idea. I have some threads on my personal workout from earlier this year that my be useful to you. I am currently doing squats, deadlifts, presses... all things that you shouldn't even be thinking about at this stage.

I find the best way to prepare GENEPRO is to make sure the lid is on tightly and then chuck it in the trash. The makers of that stuff are about as shady as they come. They say their magical process reduces the size of Protein molecules! In their own words: They are saying their 10g of special protein is equivalent to 30g whey. I believe this says it best about Genepro: Long story short, they are selling lies. Most likely they are selling BCAA's and calling it protein. Do yourself a favor and buy a reputable protein brand. Gold Standard is good brand. There are so many manufacturers that lie on their labels, you almost have to look them up and see how many lawsuits they have against them before you buy! If their process was true, every other maker out there would be following suit because it is such a cutthroat business. The fact that most retail chains refuse to carry it is evidence of the company's reputation.

Lifters/body builders: ? re: supps/powders/drinks/ etc
BigViffer replied to mi75's topic in Fitness & Exercise
In the beginning that will be true. But if she is wanting to build muscle she will eventually have to starting eating more. I am currently having trouble building muscle because as hard as I try I cannot seem to eat more than 2300 calories a day. It's definitely a balancing act. You don't want to get into the habit of grazing, and you can't gorge yourself on a single meal. Trying to get strong and losing fat at the same time is hard. If this were a person who was in the first couple months out from surgery I would recommend they just stick with losing fat and maintain muscle mass as best they can. -

At this stage of your program, do not worry about supplements. A supplement will not give you big muscles or "tone" anything. Only hard work does that. The only replenish what you use or provide whatever is missing in your diet. Don't get me wrong, if you are busting your ass every week on the weights, hitting your nutritional macros and maxing out your weights, a supplement will give you more growth. But that is a year (at least) away from where you are now. You really only need to focus on your macros in your diet. If you are going to be lifting weights, you are going to need high amounts of proteins and fats. Yes fats. Just make them good ones and you will be fine. If you are working the weights at the limit of your strength, you will burn the calories. As a side note, I just want to go on record to say that even if you lift at your max for the next year, you are not going to turn into one of those grotesquely muscular woman. That kind of result takes more than just BCAA's and whey protein! Case in point: https://www.nerdfitness.com/blog/2011/07/21/meet-staci-your-new-powerlifting-super-hero/ This girl is awesome. She's a little 130 lbs kid that deadlifts 300lbs+! She doesn't look grotesque either. I'd say she is just a cutie! -

I actually fainted 3 days post op. I like to think of myself as a manly man; as much as I disliked the doting behavior of my wife those first few days I am very glad she was there in hindsight. I hear where you are coming from and I totally relate. But call a friend and see if they can stay with you. Tell them you are just going to be hanging out and you need him to eat all your food that will go bad!
