  1. Huh... sounds like my wife has it lucky. I do all of the bill paying (online or in person), I do the grocery shopping, the outside chores, I clean the bathroom, living room, hallway, office, & living room, vacuuming and dusting. She does the laundry, cooking, and dishes not because I won't but because I don't do them "right". I prefer towels folded and she rolls them, etc... When my wife was out of commission I had no problem cooking for the kids, they just had to eat what I made. I never asked them what sounded good. And there was none of that, "If you don't like it, find something you want." crap. I say "This is what we are having, don't like it? Starve." Needless to say they like mom better in the kitchen!

    7 Weeks Post Surgery

At 7 weeks I don't think it would be a problem. If your surgeon has cleared you for fresh vegetables, I say give it a shot. The only issue is the fact that there is literally no nutritional value to lettuce. Kale is a much better choice, but it is a bit fibrous and requires a lot of chewing. I mean a lot. lol, oh... one more thing. Don't go too far from the bathroom. Matter of fact, if you are going to try a salad for the first time, I would do it at home in case there is an "accident".
  3. Just curious, which one of these people you have talked to will be paying for your surgery? Oh, they won't be will they? Then their opinions doesn't really mean much. Comparing Mexico to Iraq is just ridiculous.

Oh god yes. I was like clockwork; everyday at 10:30. Now I am maybe once every other day sometime between 8 & 5.

    Hot Chocolate

I think the OP is probably referring to old fashion hot chocolate. If that is the case, dumping syndrome is possible. A huge spike in blood sugar and fat in the blood stream could cause the drooling, nausea, sweating, foaming, and yes even crapping yourself. Dumping makes you feel awful. I mean seriously awful. Any of the alternative listed above is better this early in the game.

Feet falling asleep while on the toilet

That's a shame because they are very helpful with constipation. Bought 2 of them myself. Hell, I'd bring it to work if I didn't think the savages in my office would piss all over it.

    So....about my pee.

Not a fan of iPhones nor Apple in general honestly. stand alone cuff also prevents vendor lock in. A notebook log or a spreadsheet is my prefered method of keeping track of things.

    So....about my pee.

Good idea buying a BP cuff. If you go the route I did and buy the electric one, just one note. Don't get hung up on the systolic/diastolic numbers themselves. The cheapy BP cuff is not as accurate as my wifes regular cuff or the ones at the office. They are ballpark numbers. Think of them as "-ish". So mu BP this morning was 115-ish over 70-ish. If you keep a log, the only thing that is important is how much that "-ish" fluctuates. If it is always 120-ish over 80-ish, you're good. If it starts going all over the place, 120-ish, 100-ish, 150-ish... then you either have a crap BP cuff or you have something going on with your BP.

    Has anyone cheated ?

There is a reason it's called the liquid phase and soft foods. Yogurt is thick. You stomach is very swollen right now and the opening is very small. Even liquids will cause a backup in the esophagus. Eating something like yogurt will take longer to dribble into as well as out of your stomach. I understand the cravings, but honestly; is a yogurt really worth setting a precedent in your mind that it is ok to cheat already?

    So....about my pee.

@@migalo - not on the subject of urination, but when you mentioned yoru BP med that reminded me of something. I was also fortunate to get off of BP med and for the first time in over 20 years I am having to do something that is contrary to everything that has been preached to me by ever doctor I have ever had. Salt my food. You have GOT to be kidding me?! I drink at a bare minimum 72oz Fluid a day. MINIMUM. But I am having issues with my BP dipping low! I need to retain more fluid to help keep my BP where it needs to be. It's not an issue really on my rest days, but on my lift days I have almost fainted from BP dropping low. Like I said, not related to your original post but I wanted to put it out there so you would see it. I am not saying that you most definitely will have this issue, but don't be surprised if it does happen.

Feet falling asleep while on the toilet

This is constant for me! Didn't expect a woman to be the one to bring this up though as #2 questions seem to cause embarrassment to many women. So good on you for asking the question! Now, to answer your question with my experience as to why it happens sooner or more frequently than before. In my experience, I tend to have my elbows just above my knee. Guess what? My elbows are sharper than before and my thighs are not as cushioned as before either. I can put both my feet to sleep in minutes! I look palsied when I try to pull up my britches and walk out of the stall! Of course that is only one possible reason, but it is something to consider. Where do you place your elbows while you are talking to a man about a horse?

    Need to know.

I eat All Bran Buds mixed in with my yogurt all the time for the fiber. I also eat old fashion shredded wheat. You know the giant pillow looking thing? I just let it soak up all the milk it can hold. Good carbs are not something to be afraid of, they are necessary! Sent from my phone. Please forgive brevity and spelling.

    So....about my pee.

With that type of activity, your Protein intake is good. All of your protein should be devoted to healing at this point in your recovery. Only excess protein is used for muscle growth. Add to that you will need a good mix of healthy carbs for fuel, you are just not in a position for weight lifting. Give it time though. Once you are cleared, you DO need to do some weights to battle atrophy. Plenty of threads here in the Guy's Room on the subject. I started adding muscle after about the 9 month mark. Everything before that was maintain muscle mass to aid in fat burning.

    So....about my pee.

OK, i'll give that a shot, i'm curious if my weight loss is on track for someone my size I am actually going to go the opposite direction on this advice. If you are 4 weeks out and you are getting 60 grams of protein in, you are killing it. Unless you are busting hump at the gym or are a physical laborer, you are getting the protein you need. Until you know what is going on with your urine, I would recommend holding off on the increased protein merely because it can be hard on the kidneys. Being 4 weeks out, I am betting you have a follow up appointment with your surgeon coming up soon. Write this issue down so you can remember to ask for his/her opinion on it.

    So....about my pee.

The volume of fluids you are taking in sounds pretty damned good to me. Are you noticing that it is dark or bright yellow? If it is bright yellow, I am betting that you are taking a Vitamin that contains B12 or you are taking a B complex. That would account for the color. Also, in the beginning, your waste is going to be a little more concentrated than normal. A lot of the waste is going to be from your fat reserves. If you ain't pooping & peeing, you ain't losing! Concentrated urine would have a strong odor.

    Did I make a mistake?

No offence meant, I'm just used to dealing with people with thicker skin I guess. I see that you have only been a member for two months. Perhaps you'll feel differently after 12 months, or perhaps not. Best of luck to you as well. I appreciate the sentiment, but I prefer to think I make my own luck through hard work.

    Did I make a mistake?

Well, I'm a judgemental type of person so that makes sense. Not everyone who makes these posts are truly looking for support. Some really are attention whores. I've seen plenty come and go. Sent from my phone. Please forgive brevity and spelling.

    Did I make a mistake?

I find it interesting to see this topic come up so frequently. I will normally pass these by, but your concern seems genuine and not a run of the mill cry for attention. When you were approved for surgery, did you have any comorbidities? I would wager you did not or if you did they were minor. I do not say that to downplay or belittle your situation! You may have had high blood sugar or blood pressure or something along the lines like that, but those are manageable things. I had them too! But I also had several other things going on as well. I could not lift my left leg up to walk normal. I was literally dragging it at times. My back was screaming in agony 24/7. I had a standing prescription for painkillers and muscle relaxers for the past 10 years. Can you imagine that? I didn't even have to go to my Dr's office for a renewal script of Percocet & Vicodin. So when I had my surgery did I have those feelings of regret? Sure I did. But I also had it in my head that the trade off was going to be worth it. So in under 2 years, I went from unable to lift my own leg off the ground to doing a 230lbs deadlift. I am now able to do things that were impossible for me before. That's what I recommend you set your eyes on. Find a prize and go after it. As a comparison example, my wife did not have any comorbidities. She was a wreck after her surgery. A seriously emotion mess. Food is for her a emotional as well as cultural thing. Being Costa Rican and unable to eat carbs was enough to reduce her to a sopping wet wad of tears and over-sized clothes! Once she got past the first month and the hormones started getting under control, she has grabbed life by the horns and not looked back. Best of luck to you.
  24. I think that your weight is not the issue, nor your age really. It's your activity level. The sleeve is an excellent tool for a person who can control their eating habits AND maintain an active lifestyle. Weight loss is wholly dependent upon diet, fitness comes from exercise. The DS is a more forgiving surgery from what I have seen. My mother-in-law had that surgery several years ago and has maintained a respectable amount of weight off. I don't think she eats worth a crap though. Rice is a staple in her diet as are cakes, pies and cookies. Fried foods and eating out often. Low protein intake, high fats and carbs. But since she has mal-absorption and frequent trips to the bathroom and has kept the weigh fairly consistent. Can you control your appetite and make a lifelong change of eating habits? Will you get up every day and make sure you are active than the week before? If you have that kind of dedication, go for the sleeve. If you doubt that you will be able to do that, I would opt for the DS. I understand your reticence about rerouting the plumbing, but if you have confidence enough in your surgeon to cut you open and remove 80% of your stomach I don't see that much difference. Good luck with whatever you decide!
  25. I am about a year and a half out and I still haven't had a carbonated drink. I was a Diet Dew addict before surgery and I just don't even want to open that door. Plus, all of my joints felt better after just a week away from all the chemicals in those damn drinks.
