wascott reacted to Jb1176 in Stall nine weeks out
Update. Finally last week I lost 4.5 lbs after being in a stall for three weeks. I didn't change my eating routine or my exercise routine and if anything cut back my walking by half. My lesson learned is to be patient, keep to the program, and just wait out the stall. This was my second stall but it lasted much longer than the typical three week stall I experienced.

wascott got a reaction from bigBobo in 2nd thoughts
I'm also 5 foot 11. I weighed about 291 when I started dieting before surgery. My surgery weight was 245. I had some low energy after surgery but feel pretty good now. (Almost 3 weeks post op)

@@Licia'sjourney You can do this! It's not a "diet", it's a lifestyle. My surgery is coming up soon. I can't help but think of the song from the Rocky Horror Picture Show....."Don't dream it...be it." Here we go... it's our time to be it! It will be tough but we can and will do this!

Experiments in Charcuterie - Part 1
Anybody have any experience making their own prosciutto? Got any tips? I'll post the recipe when it's done. According to my calculations, about 20 minutes worth of work spread out over 2 weeks seems to be about what we'll need.

wascott reacted to Rogofulm in carbs
My doctor's rule for carbs is "as few as possible" and only from legumes, green veggies, dairy, and a tiny bit of fruit. I'm a little over a year out and have just started introducing quinoa, brown rice, sweet potatoes, and a little more fruit as a way of tip-toeing into maintenance. And remember, measure out your Protein, and eat all your meals in this order:
1. Protein (meat, legumes, Greek yogurt)
2. Green veggies
3. Fruit
4. Starches (including green peas and corn)
If you plan it right, you should be full, or at least satisfied, long before you get to Step 4. I'm always stuffed by Step 2. And when hunger strikes between meals, ask yourself if it's really thirst in disguise? If you're behind on your Fluid intake, catch up on that first, then wait 15-30 minutes before eating. And finally, when you want a snack, make it protein-based (meat, cheese, nuts, yogurt, jerky). Good luck!

Wish I knew about the positive affects of the surgery a long time ago. Lots of horror stories years ago and that scared me.
Glad someone told me to research different websites and get on blogs such as this one to get real information from real patients. I made adjustments 4 months before surgery and which enabled me to adjust quickly to the eating changes and how and what to eat. I didn't have any hair loss, dry skin or any other major issues. I'm a year in May 30th of this year. I still have 40 pounds to go to my goal. I had gastric bypass.

For me it was my cousin openly sharing her weight loss surgery experiences in Mexico. Without that I wouldn't be having surgery on Monday and I'd still be gaining weight. Learning about this site and the affordability of surgery in Mexico led me to my decision to have this done.

When I go out to eat I have no emotional response or judgement about what others eat. While the thread wasn't really targeted at anyone and certainly was not overly harsh...over the years I have read so many posts of the newly thin being disgusted by big eaters and obesity....so my comment isnt really about THIS thread just a cumulative response to the general topic of "oh my I can't believe how much OTHER people eat" now that I have been "saved" by LES.
I think a country western song sums it up for me...I have enough going on to keep my own house in order...
"Biscuits"
Taking down your neighbor won't take you any higher
I burned my own damn finger pokin' someone else's fire
I've never gotten taller makin' someone else feel small
If you ain't got nothin' nice to say don't say nothin' at all
Just hoe your own row and raise your own babies
Smoke your own smoke and grow your own daisies
Mend your own fences and own your own crazy
Mind your own biscuits and life will be gravy
Mind your own biscuits and life will be gravy
Nobody's perfect, we've all lost and we've all lied
Most of us have cheated, the rest of us have tried
The holiest of holies even slip from time to time
We've all got dirty laundry hangin' on the line
So hoe your own row and raise your own babies
Smoke your own smoke and grow your own daisies
Mend your own fences and own your own crazy
Mind your own biscuits and life will be gravy
Mind your own biscuits and life will be gravy
Pourin' salt in my sugar won't make yours any sweeter
Pissin' in my yard ain't gonna make yours any greener
And I wouldn't know about the rocks in your shoes
So I'll just do me and honey you can just do you
So hoe your own row and raise your own babies
Smoke your own smoke and grow your own daisies
Mend your own fences and own your own crazy
Mind your own biscuits and life will be gravy
Mind your own biscuits and life will be gravy

Looking for a healthy, umami-filled treat to help you stay cool in the summer heat? Look no further than kimchi. Odd though it may sound, Kimchi, along with other spicy fermented foods, has been shown to greatly cool off the human body on a hot day AND it's packed with all sorts of other nutritional benefits - leading the National Institutes of Health to declare it one of "the few true superfoods."
