Good luck to all of you about to be sleeved, and those of you that have been, hoping for you a quick recovery! It's been a while since I posted on this thread. I was hoping to be a June sleever. Pre-op was last Monday and I've been scheduled for July 2. So I missed it by two days! Oh well!
I'm starting my pre-op diet today, and in exactly two weeks - my life will be changed for the better! I'm so looking forward to it!

snack on high Protein low fat foods if you must. They'll make you feel fuller longer. I plan to keep a supply of Jerky around.

wascott reacted to VSGAnn2014 in Honestly, tell me the truth. NO more Booze or caffinee?
My surgeon approved me for coffee at 10 days post-op. I now drink 1/2 cup to 1 cup of coffee in the morning with the same amount of hot skim milk.
I had no alcohol until 5.5 months post-op. Since then I have 4 ounces of wine 4-5 days a week.
I reached my weight loss goal at 8.5 months post-op. I'm now 4-5 pounds below goal. Doing great.

Welcome to the other side all June sleevers! I got my sleeve on June 8th and feel great. My biggest surprise is how much swelling and bloat I have around my upper abdomen. It really impacts the scale but drinking lots of liquids and getting my Protein in with no problem,

wascott reacted to judyoz in I have to eat my words......
Several of my friends did/do Weight Watchers. They always dip their salads "into the dressing" on the side. These same people have been dieting since Have met them, 35+ years. Anyway........ I always thought it was so stupid looking, especially when we go out to eat. But guess who does it now??? YEP ME!! Really does save calories, plus I can take the rest home to eat later. Anyone else have to eat their words????

I've had the same problem ever since I went to a low carb high Protein diet. I'm still pre-op so I'm taking Metamucil. I'll have to adjust my strategy for post-op. I take Probiotics daily but the problem persists.

wascott reacted to SharonTX in June 2015 Mexico Sleevers
Here I am in Tijuana. Arrived yesterday at florence Hospital via Roberto and San Diego Airport. I am staying at the Sage (hospital hotel). It is located on the 5th floor. I had my EKG and Chest Xray yesterday. I arrived in my room at 4 pm and they brought me chicken broth, bottles of Water, and Jello, two separate times, at about 5 pm and again at about 7 pm. My husband and I walked around the neighborhood a bit, down to the boardwalk, and on the beach. It was nice, especially after coming from hot Fort Worth, which is currently experiencing heavy downpours ! We left just in time !
Dr. Luna (the nutritionist) came by my room yesterday evening at about 9 pm to check on me and introduce himself. He was very polite. Dr. Luna told me that they would be coming to get me around 10 am to transfer to the actual hospital room, where I will be recovering for two nights. Then I will have labwork, and meet with both Dr. Luna and my surgeon, Dr. Zavalza. My surgery is scheduled at 2 pm today.
I will check-in again, possibly tomorrow or Friday with an update on my recovery !
Right now I don't care about food, just wish I could have coffee

i never tried it, but i think it should work
keep "enjoyIng" pre-op
you are on the road to a healthier, happier, longer life!!!!

"little" hijack
when i was a kid my mom told me that i would love Tomato soup
mix in a couple of teaspoons of sugar
might sound gross but it really was yummy
you wonder why i gained a "little" weight
as time past, my mom became my biggest critic about my weight
still today (at 85 year OLD) she's still going strong with her criticism
even though i am at goal
I know i am lucky to have her
but i would love not to "hear" hurtful words
thanx for listening to my "baby sized vent"

you cant cause a leak in your stomach by using your abs to help with a bowel movement. they dont have anything to do with each other. lactulose is good for long term prevention but not for releif. you may want to use a gentle laxative like colace with a stool softener.

wascott reacted to hillgirly in Consipation
It does take a while after surgery for everything to get back to "normal", my Constipation has horrible for several months (on & off). My doctor told me I could take Mira-Lax as needed - I will mix it in my Water or Protein shakes. If I needed more immediate relief (can you say desperation?), I would take Milk of Magnesia. I even used suppositories a few times, which was suggested on this board.
Mine seemed to get better once I was able to work some veggies back into my diet or other sources of Fiber. Remember to drink as much Water as you can, that will help. Last thing you want is to have to go to the ER because you're impacted
Good luck & hang in there!

wascott reacted to IcanMakeit in Consipation
Unfortunately chronic Constipation is a very common condition post-op. I never really cured it during my losing phase, but I was able to manage it with Smooth Move, Mira-Lax, and Milk of Magnesia on rotation and Colace every day. I also took daily probiotics and ate yogurt every day, but I'm not sure if they had any effect.
Now that I'm in maintenance and my intake of fruits has increased, my constipation is becoming less of a problem.

wascott got a reaction from MrsSugarbabe in Tomato Soup ?
Unjury sells a sample pack that includes two servings of several flavors including chicken. The kit also includes a shaker bottle and a thermometer. (You don't want to get your liquid too hot or the Protein will congeal like an egg)

I wouldn't be on mine. I'm on day 10. Unjury has a chicken Soup flavored Protein mix. I haven't tried it yet but others seem to like it.

wascott got a reaction from Sara51692 in How accurate is your calorie counting?
Yeah there's a lot of wishy washy entries in Myfitnesspal. That being said, food is naturally going to vary quite a bit just like the calories you burn in a day. I think it's a good habit to log food and physical activity. If you stall or start to go up you can take a look at your data and formulate a course correction. I don't obsess over it. I just try to remember to get it all documented.
