Leaving for the hospital in 9 hours... I'M FREAKING OUT A LITTLE!
tcon replied to Cervidae's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Good Luck!!! -
I'm sure your surgeon knows best and I'm sure you won't regret it. Bypass alone will get rid of you reflux. Also, it's sounds like all you pre-op requirements have completed. Won't your deductible start over in January? @@Floey84

Doubts and fear are normal but I can tell that I don't have any regrets so far. I'm two weeks out and I'm doing great as long as I get my protein and water in. I have to space them out, throughout the day. I also, take a b-complex two to three times per day. You have to decide what's best for you but I don't have any regrets. Have you started the process? Good luck!!

Glad you're doing well!!

Hang in there, you can do it! It's difficult but well worth it. When I was tempted/discouraged (tempted all the time watching hubby, 2 teenaged boys and 1 pre-teen eat non-stop), I would remind myself that the pre-op helps shrink my liver and makes the surgery and recovery much easier. I'm two weeks post-op today and feeling good. I do feel fatigue in the morning and around 2 but once I get my Protein and take a B-Complex I'm fine. Good luck!!!

I had my gallbladder removed at the same time as sleeve surgery. I'm one weeks 2 days post-op. I gained 10 pounds from swelling and fluids. As of today I lost 13 pounds. So at least a 3 pound lost in one week....the rest was fluids and swelling. I'm happy with that. ???? Good Luck!!!

Long term effect of sleeve surgery on weight loss and comorbidities
tcon replied to James Marusek's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Further, it must be noted that many patients were lost to follow up — of the over 400 patients who had LSG, only 38 were still available for evaluation five years after the procedure. Thus, more data from a larger group of patients would help in evaluating the longer term success of this particular surgical procedure. 362 patients were not were followed up. The study doesn't seem fair when only 38 people were followed up on. Regardless of the study, the surgeon operates on the stomach and not the brain. It's a daily struggle. The sleeve should be utilized as a tool to teach you healthier habits. That's why I feel that is important to follow the plan given to you by your surgeon and NUT for the first 12-18 months. After that, watch out for you slider foods and monitor your weight and unhealthy habits that might be creeping in. -
Congrats!!! Sounds like you doing well!

How much should I be eating?
tcon replied to JerseyGirl34's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm one week and on liquids only. I have a shake for breakfast and lunch and broth with Genepro for dinner. I can have almond milk (I mix with shakes) and strained cream soup. 543 calories (includes my 2 B-complex supplements) and 85 grams of protein. -

The two weeks after has been more difficult to me. Seems like everyone's posting the dinner pictures on IG or FB. ???????????????? I'm getting my protein and fluids. I'm sure this will pass soon....ready for purée stage. ???????????? -
I'm too green to have pet peeves but, I see I have a lot to look forward to. One of my close friends was banded and few years back and I have heard some stories from her. Constantly asking how much more weight was she going to lose? Her co-workers would buy an extra biscuit for Breakfast and offer it to her. Some people are cruel and obviously unhappy in their own lives. Goes to show that misery LOVES company. Kind of sad if you think about it.

Sending prayers your way! I only threw up once and that was when they woke me up. hair loss is one of my concerns but it will grow back so I've heard. ???? Good luck!!!

Did you gain from the swelling? I gained 10 pounds. I think it's too early to feel letdown. Your body is still healing from a major surgery. I had my gallbladder removed, sleeve and hernia repair. I'm not expecting weight loss for the first few weeks. Also, I'm retaining Fluid. I look 9 months pregnant. ???? but I know the weight loss will happen soon. I want my body to heal first. ???? I'm sure the scale will start moving soon, as long as you follow your surgeons instructions. Losing weight slowly is not necessarily a bad thing. Chin up...???? Good Luck!!!
