HELP! Protein Shakes (In-Store/On-line) cost effective pre-op and Post-op
TLW replied to lisaanewme67's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I really like the Isopure products. They have the protein powders, I get the zero carb vanilla and unflavored and their flavored protein drink. I like the grape because if there is any chance I may vomit, I want it to taste the same, but they have other favors. I ordered my online. -

i have the HR as well, I like what it does, but wish they could have made it a little more famine looking for women, it's kinda wide and a little bully feeling. -
I HATE my CPAP machine. I constantly find myself waking up with it wrapped around my neck, and blowing so much air that when Obget up in the morning I burp a humongous blast of air that I have swallowed. My one main wish besides weight loss is hopefully being able to get rid of that machine. Don't get me wrong, I know it's benefits, but it is a pain in the ass as well.

Hi.. I am new here...Need advice
TLW replied to Fat_Tony's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are smart to start now. All doctors are different, u could ask your doctor for a referral or call your insurance ask for their policy and requirements for bariatric surgery and a list of approved physicians. Most insurance companies have a set of requirements That can vary from 3 months of consecutive visits diet based appointments with a doctor or nutritionist and some like my BCBS of BT require 6 months. In addition some bariatric clinic have all of their own doctors, nutritionist... After you get that info begin researching the type of surgery you feel would be best for you. -
Many say that protein and the supplement Biotin really helps. You can also use Rogain to help it grow back thicker.

????Any May Gastric Bypass peeps????
TLW replied to Salonboi's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I still have a few weeks to go until the pre op diet. I have had my surgery date of May 28 since April 8, which has made this wait extremely long. My diet doesn't seem as harsh as some of yours. I am to have 3 protein shakes a day, but I am also allowed a 3oz piece of lean meat or chicken for dinner and a 1/2 cup of non starchy veggie. -
I would recommend the isopure plus zero carb drink. I got the grape flavored, but they have other flavors. Remind me a little like grape kool aid. It is 60 calories with 15 grams protein in only 8 oz.

I can't believe you are at 5 days post op all ready. I looked in the book my surgeon gave me, and it says strained infant fruit is fine at five days. Overall how do you feel?
-
I would first say, do some research. I personally chose bypass because it has been around for so long. There is a lot of research on long term results, where the sleeve is still relatively new, there is not too much research on it. You also want to consider your behavior. For me I felt that the bypass would encourage me to follow a healthy lifestyle more than a sleeve because it will restrict my food intake greatly, where the sleeve will reduce my intake, but will still allow me to eat whatever I want without consequence. Finally, I decided the bypass would be the best because I did not want to take the chance of having the sleeve fail and having to repeat this process for a bypass. Whatever you decide I wish you the best of luck. My surgery date is May 28.

Martene81, I'm hoping once We are back in school, next week I will be so busy that time goes. Y a lot faster than this week did. Since we are only a day apart, it will be nice to have someone to share encouragement, accomplishments, fears, and goals with.

MzAlice, I understand how you feel, during this waiting period I too am always reminding myself, not to eat, not to gain weight... This is hard because food and smoking has always been a comfort to me during stressful, exciting, and discouraging times and if I gain weight I could be denied the surgery. I just keep telling myself that I Have come to far to destroy what I want and that's what you need to decide. I know that if I keep gaining I will be diabetic and develop more health issues and I do not want that. At this point I deal with severe sleep apnea, hyperlipidemia, asthma, and hypothyroidism. I really do not need anything else as I am only 45. One of the things I did yesterday to pass some time and avoid munching all day was look at some of the pre and post pictures on this site. I found it very inspirational, and pray that within a year I will be at my goal and proud to post pictures of myself. Use this site to express your feelings. I know we are not alone in our feelings. I'm here if you want a weight loss buddy.

Lisaanewme67 I just looked at your profile and we seem very similar 5'2" 212. Are you having the RNY or the sleeve? I will be having the RNY as soon as May 28 gets here. Hopefully you will receive your results from the team soon. I was so excited when I got the news that I was accepted. I didn't have the do a sleep study, because I am all ready using a CPAP for sleep apnea, which is one of the reasons I was approved for the surgery. After completing all the requirements, the only test I had to have was an endoscopy because if GERD, but that was done within a week. Hoping everything goes smoothly for you.

i found out April 8 that my surgery would not be until May 28 I am beyond anxious to start this new journey and having the date still so far away is driving me insane! Day and night all I think about is May 28th. I stress about getting sick and having to post pone it even farther away, or gaining weight and them telling me they cannot do it. My initial process went by so fast, with the doctor visits and test and now that everything is set, I'm at a stand still and really do not know what to do with myself. What makes it even worse is that I am on vacation for the next week, with nothing planned, so keeping myself busy, away from eating, and not stressing is going to be fun. I really wish they would not have told me until 3-4 weeks before, 7 weeks is just too long and nerve racking.
-
It only took me three months to complete all the requirements for the insurance. I was so excited and then when I got my surgery date I Discovered I had a 7 week wait. Wanna talk about feeling discouraged! I have been sitting around since April 8 and still have until May 28. It has been so hard making sure I do not gain any weight while I wait, especially this week because we are on spring break (I teach) and all it has done is rain. Being stuck inside is not a good thing for me. I have everything I need for my pre op diet, for my hospital stay and for my first 2 weeks post op. I have researched all I can and am praying the next few weeks go by quickly.

I tried a few different ones and the one I really like is Isopure zero carb vanilla and unflavored. With one scoop I get 25 grams of protein and I do not have to worry about the carbs. I have a shake every morning. My morning fix is 1 scoop of Isopure, approx 10 blueberries, and 1/4 cup of cannon light and Fit vanilla yogurt, 1/4 water. It is awesome and very filling.

Impatiently waiting...June sleevers?
TLW replied to Seahawkgirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I completed all my requirements the end of March, met my surgeon April 9 and told my surgery date would be May 28. I was so bummed, 7 weeks of waiting. I have been going crazy. I honestly think I could write a book with all the research I have done in the last 6 months and now I was being told I needed to wait almost 2 more months. I thought I was going to lose my mind. Every day has been a battle of making sure I have been doing everything and to be told I have 7 more weeks of walking on egg shells. Luckily for me I did not have to lose any pre surgery weight, but it is just as hard maintaining my weight, especially knowing that I cannot gain any weight. Four months ago I went up two pounds and was reminded of the program's no weight gain policy, it didn't matter that I was just 3months smoke free, where many individuals that quit smoking gain 20 plus pounds within the first 6 months. With this extra time I have been trying to keep busy, I have all my vitamins, protein powder, stuff for the hospital... Now if I could only make the weeks fly by. I teach middle school and course this is Spring vacation so I have a week off and the forecast is rain all week so I cannot even go outside and enjoy a good walk. I know I need to not be so impatient, up it is so hard, I have never wanted anything as much as I want this. Sometimes I wonder if I have my hopes for this too high and once it happens it will be a big let down. -

You will do wonderful. Prayers sent and I cannot wait to read your future post. Hopefully you will be able to give ,e some good advice on what to do and not do since my surgery is not scheduled until May 28. -
So wonderful! You look and hopefully feel amazing

Shelleylester, This is NOT the worst, you have not been denied, that would be the worst. When I met with my team Imhad to do an endoscopy. My first thought was great wait another month, but Imactually go in real quick. Everything that slows the process sucks, but it also a great demonstration of your commitment. It took me years to gain my weight, so waiting an extra month is ok, especially once the surgery takes place the weight comes off quickly. I like you want it done immediately, finding out my surgery date April 9 th and having to waituntil May28 is driving me crazy. 7 weeks with nothing to do, but try not to gain ANY weight. I have all my supplements protein powder and everything I need for my pre op diet, so literally, all I have is time to wait. Luckily time moves forward and my date will get here and so will yours. Stay strong and commuted, I Wont say no Starbucks, but definitely NO smoking.

If your programs are anything like mine, they run a monthly routine or schedule, so depending on where you are could create a longer wait time. The first Thursday of the month is the 3rd Pre Op meeting and Friday is for the informational meeting for new patient The second week Thursday is 1st Pre op meeting with nutritionist and PA Third week 1st Post Op appointments and established Post Op patients Fourth Thursday 2nd Pre Op group meeting and meeting with surgeon
