    Pre surgery diet

I'm on a part liquid part lean protein diet. I have to have 2 protein shakes a day, but I can also have a 2 cup salad or 1/2 cup veggies, 1/2 cup non fat cottage cheese, and 3 oz lean meat, sugar free jello, Popsicles, 1/2 cup yogurt. I just have to keep it below 1000 calories and no more than 80 carbs a day.
  2. I have been on it for 9 days and have lost 5 pounds, 4 more days to go.
  3. I was told to follow the 30/30 rule

    So it begins....

Once you are cleared for surgery you are pretty safe. The doctor will not balk at a pound or two, unless you were specifically given a weight to be at on the day of surgery.
  5. When do your see the doctor? I'm sure he/ she will tell you the best approach for you. Just because there are issues does not mean you will not still be able to have was. My philosophy is stay positive, until you are specifically told there is no hope.

    Two weeks to go

Love that your husband is going. Mine has taken this journey with me and as always is my #1 supporter. He has attended every appointment from the introductory meeting to my pre op visit and has encouraged me every step,of the way. My surgery is May 28, the hospital is two hours from our home and he refuses to stay at a hotel. He said he will sleep in a chair if he has to but he wants to make sure someone is right there if I need anything. Love him

    So it begins....

Pre op diet, it is hard, but seems to get a little better as each day passes. I'm on day 4. I use Isopure zero carb protein, but there are so many out there, it's better to buy samples for the pre op as I have been told your taste changes after surgery. My diet consists of a shake for breakfast at 7, 8oz water 9, a sugar free jello at 10, a shake and 1/4 cup tuna fish at 12, 24 oz water 1-3, shake at 4, 8 oz water, oz of chicken at 6:00 with 1/2 cup of broccoli OR salad with 1/2 caffeinated coffee, and a sugar free Popsicle at 7:30. Head hunger is the worse.
  8. You look awesome! I hope you feel awesome too.

    Alcohol

I was told at least a year and then to have my first drink at home because it will affect me totally different t from before surgery.
  10. I also did not have to lose any weight prior to my surgery. I am 4 days in the pre op diet now, your insurance is lol approved before you even begin the pre op diet. Everyone seems to have different pre op diets, on mine I am allowed high protein low carb as long as I keep my calories between 800-900.
  11. I will go get some almond milk and give it a try. Thanks
  12. I'm on day 3 and do fine all day, it is from 6:30 on I am starving. I am allowed 3 shakes per day and 3 oz of lean meat and 1/2 cup green vegetables or 1/4 c cottage cheese. The one thing I noticed is that because I do not make my shakes with milk ( I use water because I do not like milk) I am only consuming about 660 calories instead of 800. I wonder if I added some yogurt to the shakes as a milk replacement if it would be ok.

    Questions

I have only told a few select people because of that. I'm scheduled for surgery May 28 and I know when I return to work the end of Aug (I teach) people will notice, but I have decided I will respond with, " I have spent the summer working on making a healthier me." And leave it there. My mother was VERY unsupportive when I told her what I was going to do, so much so I got tired of hearing her negativity the next time she said something about it, which was in March I told her to just stop because there was no guarantee it would happen because I have to go through testing first. I will not tell her about my surgery, she will see me in July, but by then I Will have had the surgery and hopefully be adapted to my new way of eating.

    Calcium pills

Ciara cal sold all over, I get mine at Walmart.
  15. Why can't you have coffee? My nutritionist told me the reason they don't want you to drink coffee is because after surgery it is hard to consume liquids and they are worried about dehydration, but before surgery was fine. I'm on my two week pre op day 2 and allow myself one half caffeinated cup a day so that by the time surgery is here, it won't be so traumatic.

    The WAIT!

Wow! A years waiting list, I was upset at having to wait 7 weeks after completing all of the requirements. My insurance would make me redo everything if my surgery is not completed within a year because so many things can change. I would say check with the doctor and your insurance companies policy and requirements for bariatric surgery I had 6 consecutive monthly nutritional visit I had to complete before I met with the surgical team. Good luck
  18. I wanted to leave to see my first nephew being born 3 weeks after my surgery. Doctor won't let me go until my 4 week appointment. BUT every doctor is different.
  19. The answer is a little different based on what type of procedure you are having.
  20. Just let your boss know what you are doing, and why!

    Diet / Weight Loss

@@Tiana Harris. I too had several years documented, but because I had not had six consecutive check ins, they made me start over, I was pissed, we are talking a month and a half lapse. I have to admit it went by rather quickly, my longest weight has been waiting for my surgery day, May 28th to arrive. I was given my date back on April 8, this 7'week wait is driving me crazy. I wish you the best of luck and whatever you do, just stay focused on the goal you set for yourself.

    Diet / Weight Loss

@@Tiana Harris I like you am at the lower BMI range 38, please do not listen to that post. When I started my weight was 220, I'm 5'2" tall. I have severe sleep apnea, hyperlipidemia , pre diabetes, bad knees, hypothyroidism, hypertension, and live on a 800-1000 calories a day with no results. I am praying that having a Roux EnY will be my savior! I have tried weight loss after weight loss, and the result was always gaining back more. After a year of consultations, test, and trying the latest weight loss medication, my doctor and I finally agreed, it was time for more drastic measures. Personally I did not try to gain weight, because they will require a review of your medical records and you don't want to show a sudden jump. My surgeon has not required me to lose any weight, but before seeing him, my insurance required 6 consecutive months with a dietician. She made me keep a food journal and expected that I Would have substantial weight loss following her 1200 a day calorie diet, she was shocked to see I gained, so from then On I went back to my 800-1000 and stayed consistent the entire time. I will be beginning the pre op diet next week and am hoping I will lose some weight, but not too optimistic as the calorie intake is 800 a day.
  23. I only told a few people, husband, best friend, sister, mother, and a co-worker/ good friend. The only one who doesn't support me is my mother, so I stopped talking about it to her, as a result she believes I am not having it done. In regards to work, I told them I was having a small bowl resection. I know it is not the whole truth, BUT it is not a total lie either as my small intestines will be cut and rearranged. I work in a small school and just do not want to have to deal with 40 other opinions on whether I should or shouldn't have this done. It's really none of their business, but the minute I told work I Would need the last week of school off, and a request for sub was made, everyone seemed to want to know why I had to have surgery. The nice thing is with a small bowl resection, loss of weight happens, so I will just be the lucky person who loses more. Lol
