Your body will go through survival modes as your body is changing and from one type of diet to the next. I am going through the same thing for three days I didn't love anything and this morning 2 pounds gone. We need to remember weight loss is not just the numbers, but also the inches. We did not put this weight on in a month, so we have to allow it time to come off. If we keep following the rules it will happen. I was 218 in January and today I am 189.

if your job does not include lifting or lots of physical 14 days including weekend is perfect.

I am exactly two weeks out tomorrow and other than being tired I am fine, except for the boredom. I felt great the first three days after surgery, then due to not getting enough liquids I became dehydrated and unable to consume very much for 2 day, once I rehydrated myself I was fine. Gas pains were the worst part of it, you will want Gas X and walk, walk, walk. I ended up taking some milk of magnesia on day 4 because I did not have a BM and that helped with the gas issue as well. Most of the time, especially the first few days you will spend all day sipping drinks, trying to get your Protein in, or sleeping, I know many people who have traveled a few days to a week after surgery, especially those that get their surgery in Mexico. I myself will be traveling exactly 4 weeks out on a 4 hour flight, my doctor was ok with it.

Please help calm me down! I'm a wreck.
TLW replied to freelee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
First of all JUST BREATHE. Your doctors are just doing there job making sure that everything with you is up to par. There can be numerous reasons for a spot on your lung, it does not always mean cancer. I would really ask the doctor, why he does not want to clear you for surgery if all your lung function test have come back fine and the only potential finding is a shadow on the X ray. Why didn't he repeat the X ray? Does your blood work show abnormalities? If everything else looks good chances are you are fine. As I was going through the process, every other test showed my liver function and WBC was off big time, I was so nervous, but they did a liver biopsy of my liver when they did the RNY and everything was fine, my liver issue is caused from my obesity. You need to stick to your pre op and stay focused on your goal. On Friday you will have your CAT scan, and They will rush the results to your doctor, and you will be in surgery Tuesday. -
Week 3 a bust? What the heck is going on?
TLW replied to nuzzlebear40's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you building muscle from your walking? I have also heard many people talk about the 3 week stall. Just stay focused and the weight will continue to fall off. -
I had my RNY surgery on Thursday the 28th of May and I actually felt great the first four post op days and THEN I went down hill for 3 days. I also had one heck of a time trying to get at least 48 oz of liquid and a min of 60 grams of Protein. I ended up beginning to dehydrate and was feeling so lethargic. I called my nutritionist and she told me to stop focusing on both liquids and Proteins and focus for 2 days on just rehydrating myself with Water. After the first day I started to feel a little better, but was still not where I thought I should be. A friend of mine who went through the surgery a few weeks before me recommended that I get some Fairlife Milk, you can find it just about anywhere, and drink a cup of that with one scoop of Protein powder and I would be 1/2 through the minimum protein requirement and liquids. The milk is filtered differently and has 13g of protein versus 8 in regular milk and my protein powder is 25g giving me 38g. Dont get me wrong it takes me about an 1- 1 1/2 to drink it, but it is worth it. I mix it with sugar free strawberry flavoring and have a cup for Breakfast and a cup for dinner.

I had surgery 5/28 and it has taken a full week before I was relatively pain free, and then the coughing started, thought I would die, BUT it does get better. Yesterday was the first day I Had some energy. The best advice I can give you is to make sure you keep yourself hydrated above everything else. I was having a hard time getting liquids in and started to dehydrate, which then led to lack of protein. Another member suggested I buy Fairlife milk, which will me liquid and is 13 grams versus regular milks 8 gram. Mix it with your protein shake and you easily get 30g of protein.

The psych evaluation was easy. The goal is to see where you are today, not where you were. I know I was really stressed out about it and it was for no reason. I went in with my head high and very confident of why I want this, why I feel I have been unsuccessful at diets, and the reasons I believe the RNY is my best option for a healthy life.

Question about long-term caloric intake
TLW replied to Mobeans63's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Great question. In reality, your maintenance or caloric intake even with gastric bypass is between 1000 and 1200 calories a day. The only time you are to go below a 1000 calories is during the pre op liquid diet and that is in an effort to bring you into ketosis so your body shrink the fatty build up on your liver. After the procedure, the ultimate goal is to allow the stomach to heal and then increase calories back up to 1000-1200 calories, you will also be required to take multivitamins and other supplements for life. -
You don't really need anyone, but I know it has been nice having my husband home, at least for the first two days. Lol

How long did it take to get through approvals for surgery?
TLW replied to QuilterGal's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It took me 7 weeks to get approval and was the longest wait of the entire process -
I would agree with the other post, if you can't get it completed in July, or the beginning of Aug, wait until you have atleast a full 2 weeks off, or plan on using some sick time.
-
Sorry you had such a rough start. I have been doing fairly well, but extremely tired. So most of my day is spent trying to get protein and liquid requirements. Hopefully you will now have smooth sailing on your recovery. Just make sure you take things slowly. Tam

Last Minute Change- NERVOUS!
TLW replied to burtonbn's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have heard of many people in here getting the sleeve only to have to go back in and get the RNY done after a few years. If you have reflux, then the sleeve will make it work because your stomach is funnel shaped and allows food to move back up. I had the RNY done last week. I liked the fact that the RNY has been done since the 1960s and there is so ugh research showing the success rate, where the sleeve is still a generally new procedure with no long term studies completed as it is just over 10 years new. You need to do what is right for you. -
@red37. Just checking in on you. Wanna make sure you are still doing ok. How are you doing getting your fluids and protein? I have finally have rid myself of most of the gas and I hope does not come back. Getting fluids and proteins is a lot harder than I thought. The only thing I really seem to tolerate is my Isopure protein fruit drink and it takes me 3 hours to drink 4 oz of it.

30/30 rule with protein shakes
TLW replied to F4T-TRAP's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For you first 2-3 weeks the 30/30 rule does not apply because all of your intakes are in the form of liquids. In addition, you will only be able to drink very little at the beginning. It has been taking me about 3 hours to drink 4 oz. I still cannot handle a protein shake because they are too thick, thank god I have some of the Isopure zero carb protein fruit drinks to get my protein in, but even with that I'm still not at 60 grams. Today is day 4 post op. Everything seems like a chore to get down. -
Was given my surgery date 7 weeks ago and thought the date would never arrive. Finally it has and after tomorrow morning I will be on my new journey toward weight loss and a healthier lifestyle. I cannot wait, anxious, scared, excited, tearful, joyful. You name it I have those feeling right now. Bed in an hour and heading to the hospital at 5:30am.
-
Everything went well. Got to leave the hospital today around 4pm and am home resting . Worse part is the gas pains, but I know that's expected and will get better as I keep moving.
-
You guys will do great! If you have read many of the post, you know what to expect. I thought of the worse scenario and it was not even close. I had my RNY the 28th yesterday and got home tonight. Worse part I think is gas pains, bring gas x and start taking it ASAP and get up and walk, walk, walk. Thoughts and prayers for you both.
-
Hope you are doing as well as I am. Fluids are going down fairly easy and the pain is manageable. They just switched me from the pump to liquid pain meds. Hoping to go home after dinner tonight. I think the scariest part so far was the pills this morning, but I crushed then up a little and all went well. Did you have the sleeve or roux en y? I had the roux en y.
-
I am now on the losers bench and excited starting this new journey. So far very little pain and gas, but every chance I get I am up and walking.
-
Doing great! Surgery took about 3 1/2 hours this morning. I have gone for two walks, and enjoying being pain free with the pump, Dr. Said everything went great.
-
Thanks everyone. I am at the hospital and due to go into the OR in about a half an hour. So excited! Good luck @@red37

Wishing you the best of luck. Mine is first thing in the morning too.
