You will do great! Sorry your family is not supportive, perhaps after surgery they will change their minds. You have come too far to quit now. Best of luck today and remember you will soon be on the losers bench and it is a wonderful feeling.
-
Breathe! You will be fine. You have come this far, so do not let anything or anyone stop you. My mother was against me having the surgery as well. So i finally told her I changed my mind, which was a lie, but I Was so tired of the negativity. Now that she sees me 6 weeks post op and 35 pounds lighter, she agrees it was best for me. The surgery is not too bad, my only advice is to get up and walk at least every two hours. It helps so much with the gas pain. The first week you will be very tired and will not want to eat, it's very normal, just try your best to get the fluids in so you do not dehydrate. I wish you the best of luck and cannot wait for you to join the losers bench.

I think the thing that helped my energy level the most was getting my act together and beginning exercising. I started off walking a 1/2 mile, worked it up by a 1/2 every 2-3 days up to 5 miles and now I start just about every day at the gym doing some cardio and toning.
-
It will get better and at times you will wish you still felt the way you did week 2-3 because it gets easier to eat and you begin questioning if what you are eating is the right amount, not enough, or too much. I am at week 5 1/2 and I am now eating 2.5 oz of food like chicken Breast, ground sirloin burgers, reduced fat cheese sticks...
-
I am now 5 weeks post op and for the last week and a half I have been hitting the gym once a day for an hour, using various machines to work my entire body. I feel great, but have stopped losing weight. For the last 12 days the scale has not moved. Do I need to do something different?

Sugar affects each person differently. For example, today makes 5 weeks post op for me and I have a really hard time with sugar, artificial and natural. I have not eaten many fruits at this point because I am still only eating about 2 ounces of food per meal and my focus is on getting my protein. However, any time I eat something that contains even a little sugar I find myself running to the bathroom within two hours of eating. Tonight I wanted a little BBQ sauce on my chicken, it tasted great, but I soon found myself in the bathroom. I used to love eating fruit and making my protein shakes with milk and fruit. Now, I cannot tolerate milk, Imhave to get lactate free milk and don't even bother with the fruit. Other people do not have any reaction to sugar, so it will totally depend on you.

You will do great, see ya on the losers bench!

It is very normal. I am 4 weeks post op and am still not hungry. I love it, now I eat because I have to, to make sure I get my protein and required fluid intake where as before I just ate for the sake of eating. It took me well into the third week before I could get all my protein in, my nutritionist said at the beginning to focus on getting at least 48 oz of water so I didn't dehydrate.

Just had Gastric Sleeve, looking for a buddy/mentor

Watch the numbness in your thigh. Are you on blood thinner shots? If it is still numb Monday, call your doctors office and let them know. -
Don't freak out! I have BCBSVT, so I am sure it is similar. As long as you have completed the 6 month required doctor/ nutritionist visits, had your psych evaluation, and any other test your doctor requires you should not be denied. It took about 3 1/2 weeks for me to get my letter. The one difference is my Bariatric doctors office sent all info to the insurance to make sure everything was completed correctly. You should be able to search BCBSMN Bariatric Policy and it will tell you all you need to know. I had the RNY on May 28. I chose RNY over sleeve, because the sleeve is still new and so many people seem to get the sleeve and then end up having the RNY anyway. Of course it hurt some, but you are going to have pain killers in the hospital, and will be given some for when you leave. I used them for 3 days only. The main thing is walk, walk, walk! Luckily my husband was with me so I walked the hospital halls every two hours. The pre op diet was the worst, after surgery was a breeze because you don't really feel like eating. It is very hard to get all your Water and Protein in at the beginning, but by week 3 it gets easier. Trust me you will want to skip food stages, especially the puréed/ soft to regular food but don't. You want to be gentle on your new stomach so it can heal and you do not want to stretch your new pouch. In regards to work, you will lose energy at the beginning because of less food, surgery and recovery. Personally I was not worth anything for the first 10 days. I slept most of the first five, so I would recommend taking 2 weeks off. You should be given louvenox ( blood thinner shot) to use for ten days after surgery to prevent blood clots. So you should have no worry there. Good luck and just keep your mind on the end result you want. In 4'weeks I have lost 30 pounds.

@Red37. Hey how have you been doing? I have been having a hard time figuring out what to eat, bite size, and how do I know when I have chewed enough as well. The only seafood that seems to be the easiest for me is shrimp. I could not handle any fish other then tuna. I can also have canned chicken breast because it is the same consistency as tuna. My problem seems to be I can eat it one time and no problem, try it another time and I have a wicked bad heavy feeling in my stomach. I am learning I cannot handle more then 2-3 oz of food. I have to still get my protein from protein powder because I just cannot seem to consume enough food, especially when also trying to drink at least 48oz. I see my surgeon and NUT tomorrow and am hoping their scale matches mine, so far 30 pounds gone. Hoping that they tell me I can start moving to regular food, it at the same time I am not sure I can eat it.

Yes you still burp, at least I still burp. The only time it hurt was during the first few days after my surgery. I find I burp the most after eating soup and I believe it is because of how I sip the soup off the spoon. I will also burp if I take more of a gulp of water instead of a small sip.

I would call the doctor, you really should t have pain, maybe a little discomfort from time to time, but not pain.

Today has FINALLY ARRIVED!

@@sparksrn Fairlife Milk is ultra purified, contains no gluten, lactose, has higher calcium, higher protein, and 1/2 of the sugar. Regular milk has 8g protein, Fairlife has 13grams. I love Isopure powder.I get the zero carb powder so I don't have to worry about carbs and the milk only has 6 carbs in 8 oz. Isopure is not gritty and mixes well, but as I have found, protein powders have a different taste for different people. I have tried a few others and couldn't handle them, especially designer whey powder. If you have 3 cups a day, you have 60+ grams of protein, and 24 oz of water. -
Today has FINALLY ARRIVED!
TLW replied to myjourneyagain's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
@Sparkrin You can get Fairlife milk at just about any grocery store, even Walmart sells it. I could not handle the Premier Protein Shakes and I find it less expensive to use the powder. I use Isopure Zero Carb Strawberry, Vanilla, and Unflavored Powders. 1 scoop is 25 grams protein, and 1 cup of milk has 13 grams. -
@@Venezia22 I Have pureed chicken, turkey, roast beef, baked Beans. My favorite food at this time is Atkins recipe for spinach quiche. I make it with egg whites, takes 30 minutes and it taste awesome. The other thing that seems to settle is shrimp, which I don't have to puree. I still don't have a big appetite, lucky if I get 6 oz of food in a day, so I make sure my I get my Protein by mixing 1 scoop of Isopure whey protein with a glass of Fairlife milk twice a day. I like you have very little energy. I get my 2-5 mile walk a day and am done.

@@RNYGal This stall is driving me crazy. I have even tried to switch up my eating and exercise, but nothing seems to work. Guess my body just needs some time to adjust. I know it will pass, but this does not do much for moral.

Today has FINALLY ARRIVED!

I felt great the first 3 days, then it got a little harder. My advice would be to get up and walk every 2 hours and use GasX. I had very little gas pain as a result. I got the GasX dissolvable. Also do not get depressed because you cannot get enough fluids and protein. I was focusing on my protein intake so much I ended up dehydrating, which made for a miserable few days. If you get Fairlife milk, a cup of it has 13 grams of protein and add 1/2 - 1 scoop of your protein powder, wou will get 25-30 grams protein in with two cups. It took me 2 1/2 hours to drink 8oz, so I added an ice cube to keep it chilled, cold hurt my pouch. I still start my day with a cup, and end my day with a cup luckily now (I'm 2 1/2 weeks out) I can drink it within 15 minutes. Plus you get 16 ounces of your fluids. -
I'm at 18 days out, and have hit the wonderful stall. I have not lost anything in 3 days, am only eating about 45-50g of protein and barely 40 ounces of water a day because I get full so quick, and the water seems to just sit in my pouch sloshing around. I have only lost 12 pounds since my surgery, total 25 and am starting to fall into the doubting curse I have read so much about. Hoping the turn around happens soon.

Today has FINALLY ARRIVED!
TLW replied to myjourneyagain's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hopefully by now your surgery is done, you are well, and ready to get on the losers bench. -
GERD alone should tell you that your best option is RNY. It is the only surgery that will cure it, I fact the sleeve often times makes GERD worse. If you read the post you will also see many sleeve patients have to go through everything again because they have to go from a sleeve to a RNY. My belief is Imwas doing this once and only once, so I went with the procedure that has been around the longest, has 40+ years research and has been shown to be very successful. Whatever you decide I wish you the best of luck. Two weeks out and I am down 25 pounds.

Wishing you great success!
