  1. There really is no set time frame it all depends on your insurance company and how fast they process the materials. The second determination is your surgeons schedule. I would say expect a 6-8 week wait and that way when it happens sooner, you will be set. My insurance was approved in 2 weeks, but I had a 4 week wait after the approval due to the program requirement and my surgeons schedule. No matter the wait it is so worth it in the end.
  2. Wow! Four weeks still seems very extreme for your current weight. Yes, I experienced major mood swings by the 4th day as my body was in full ketosis, By day 7 I was miserable, not because I was hungry, but because I did not want to drink anythings anymore. Luckily, I only had a week of liquid, 12 hours of nothing and then surgery. After surgery the entire first week was the worst because I was not hungry at all Water was the hardest to get down and I did not feel like drinking because it made me nauseous.
  3. Why do you have to be on a 3 week liquid diet? This seems very extreme.

    1wk post op

Keep your chin up, it will get better each day. I really think you are eating some really difficult foods for week one. Shouldn't you be on full liquids only? During my first 2 weeks I really had no desire to eat and lived on whey Protein watery milk or beef broth (to ensure my protein intake), Jello, sugar free popsicles, and Powerade Zero (Powerade zero, which my doctor said was the ONLY sport drink I could drink was my life saver because Without it I would have dehydrated.) I could not drink Water until about week 8 and even now it is difficult. eggs I could not tolerate until a good 6-8 weeks. My second week I tried adding pudding, small curd cottage cheese, yogurt, and finally 'almost" pureed chicken. I think I wasted more food than I ate for the first month because I would eat a few bites and was full usually from trying to keep up with the required Fluid intake. Any way you look at it, enjoy the limited eating now and the not wanting to eat, because by your 3rd-4th month the desire to eat is back and your new eating habits have to be on your mind so you do not fall back to your old habits.
  7. I am almost a year out and still have this fear, especially when having to eat out. The first rule of thumb is to always know where a bathroom is. I have actually learned this as a result of my colitis not my Roux en Y. The second things is to always choose what is the least dangerous food (Proteins and veggies), not what you are craving. Remember we have to change our relationship with food and understand we eat for survival not for indulgence. Third, if you are going to "dump" know it will take pace within 30 minutes of eating. I always make sure that there is a restroom around during that time period, even if it means I have to walk around a department store. Finally, I ALWAYS try to keep a spare pair of undergarments in my purse or car. Thank god I have not had to use them, but they are there if needed. I keep them in a baggie in a inside compartment.
  8. Sorry to hear your boss is being difficult. I don't know about your doctor, but I wasn't able to schedule my surgery on my time period, it was scheduled based on the availability of my surgeon. Also this is not a vacation for you, but a life altering medical event. Of course everyone recovers at a different rate, and I can only tell you my opinion. The first 2-3 weeks will be the worse. You will be tired, weak, and will sleep a lot. It is amazing how quickly your energy will drop, it is also during your first 4 weeks you will watch your weight just drop rapidly, so it will be important that you are eating, drinking, and taking meds as your doctor instructs you. Working on your feet 8-9 hours a day is going to be way too much for your body. You need to remember that the first few weeks you will be on liquids and then pureed and very soft foods. Your main source of Protein will be in the form of powder or Protein drinks. If you could possible go back week three part time that might be doable as well as have the ability to sit and rest if needed. I teach and there is no way I would have been ready to return to work full time until after week four when I was able to start eating some real food.

    SHOTS

I had the shots in the hospital and then I had to give myself the blood thinner shots for 10 days.
  11. I can tell you I chose RNY because it has been around the longest and there are lots of studies that support its success, I discovered on this sight and many others that lots of people who get sleeved end up having to go back through this process and get the RNY, finally, because there was no research or studies past 10 years on the Sleeve, I didn't wanna chance it.
  12. 2 months before surgery 4 weeks after.
  13. You need to figure out why you are not caring anymore. Why you are trying to subconsciously sabotage yourself? The emotional eating you are doing is not because you are hungry, but seems to me like self defeat/ personal pain attached to the mind set, "Because I'm told not to, I'm going to." "I'm a failure and always will be..." This is too difficult." What you have is head hunger due to emotional suggestion. I have had those feelings for so many years and I used food as my feel better, until guilt arrived shortly after. My issues were insecurities due to being molested, which led to weight gain, depression, anxiety... I urge you to identify your main pain source and once you deal with that, you will not want to cheat!
  14. 3 pounds a week is great
  15. I am also a teacher and missed the last two weeks of school for surgery. I told them that I was having a small bowel resection due to some stomach and digestive issues, both are true. I just did not tell them details or that it was WLS.

    Food

It seems like you are trying to consume too much at one time. I had my surgery May 27 and am still only able to consume 2 ounces of any type of food like jello, pudding, yogurt... You have to remember you just had surgery and it takes time. My first week out I was so bad that I dehydrated myself, so my nutritionist had me focus on only fluids for three days and then work back in the protein. I finally on the advice of another person got Fairlife milk, which has 13 g of protein, mixed it with my 1/2 scoop of my protein powder, which gave me 32 g of protein and 8 ounces of liquid. Three of those gave me sufficient protein and 1/2 of my liquid consumption. I also cannot seem to drink anything cold, other than my milk, room temp seems to be the best and water is the hardest for me to get down.

    Slimies

The slimes/ frothing/ foaming is horrible! I Had it last week. My husband quickly did some research for me and it said to drink a teaspoon of dill pickle juice. Luckily we had some, about 5 minutes after drinking it I began to feel better and the foaming stopped. It has something to do with the acid in the pickle juice absorbing the mucus foam.

    Stomach pain

Does it occur on the right or the left of the stomach ? It could be your gallbladder
  21. I put one on last week, and it was a great feeling. Did my body look fantastic? NO! but it did not look worse than many other bodies on the beach. Of course I am in Ft. Lauderdale Fl so I really do not know anyone, which made it easier to do. I just bought the higher waisted bottoms that go to the belly button, and that helped contain the sagging skin. Will I do it again? YES

    Kill the scale!

The scale can drive you absolutely crazy if you let it. I put mine in my linen closet and am only allowed to take it out Sunday mornings, this week I lost 1 whole pound, so the damn scale will stay in the closet for 2 weeks. I look at it as this is my journey, not the damn scales and I Will not let it discourage me any more than I Would allow a person to discourage me, so if it has nothing positive to report, then I Will punish it to the closet until I feel it will give me positive results.
  23. First did you have a band, a sleeve, or RNY? Often time the sleeve stretched out to much or it could be your body has set itself into survival mode because it is not getting enough food/ nutrients. It sounds like your body needs a kick start. I agree go back to drinking 8 oz protein shakes for a week, but I Would only do 2 shakes and for your third meal I Would consume 2oz of tuna, chicken, or 2 hard boiled eggs no yolk and make sure you are taking your vitamins and see if it jump starts you. If not I Would contact your surgeons office.

    Ab workouts

I am just barely 6 weeks post op and I began working my whole body last week. I started walking 2-3 mile distances at week 2, once I was able to get tin5 miles without being winded I knew I Was ready for more. Take it slow and easy at the beginning, I overdid the first few days and was so sore. I have to admit I have a lot more energy since I have been working out, and am actually beginning to see I have a waist. Lol
