    Day 2 pretty miserable

First 5 days were miserable! Kept asking myself why I had done this. Day 6 things starting getting better
  2. I went on vacation 4 weeks post op and had no issues at all. The heat doesn't get to me at all now. I personally would get it done now. I will be 10 weeks post op this Friday and have lost more than 50 lbs since pre-op diet. Traveling is much more enjoyable as I easily fit into an airplane seat. You will be able to eat pretty much anything you want by then, just less of it. It really is not a big deal, you just eat less. I don't really feel like boozing much, it is a hot button topic on this forum. Going on a cruise in November and can't wait to try those excursions that I have been avoiding because of the weight limit of 300 lbs.

    4 days post op

It seemed counter intuitive to me as well...but the walk where I first pushed myself was the one that loosened the tightness. It got A LOT better after that. No more trying to figure out the best way to get in and out of bed. I looked pretty funny rolling at certain angles so I would end up in a decent position that didn't hurt!

    4 days post op

Are you walking? I had severe pain at the big incision site. I forced myself to start walking longer distances on day 5 and it started to loosen up and the pain started to fade. By day 10 it was completely gone. Walk, walk, walk!!!

    Grocery shopping!

I tried to plan it all out as well. My taste buds changed after surgery. Pre-op I loved cottage cheese and coconut Water. Post-op both of these items make me ill. Greek yogurt and unjury Protein shakes were my friends in the first weeks post op. Don't stock up on too much of any one thing as you may have different tastes after the surgery.

    Sleeping

I had to sleep on my back. The pain at the large incision would wake me up if I rolled on my side. Pretty much a non issue by day 10. I still sleep more than I did pre-op
  7. The sleeve is a wonderful tool. The week before and the week after surgery are pretty miserable, but a very small price to pay. 2 months after surgery I feel pretty much 100%.
  8. My first appointment was in September 2014...that started the clock on the 6 month waiting period through BCBS of MI. Finally sleeved in 5/15...so a total of almost 9 months after submittal to insurance company and scheduling for the surgeon.

    Post op day 1

I had the elevated temperature and very high blood pressure, both of which went away after day 4

    A week Post Op

Have you tried liquids at different temperatures? I didn't experience it firsthand, but many of us can tolerate either warm or cold but not both at the beginning. I can also recommend Pedialite over ice...kept me out of the hospital on my one and only dumping syndrome adventure. Good luck and keep us posted.
  11. Strangely enough, I have been craving Walnuts like crazy ever since I was post surgery. I talked to my surgeon and he was good with cashews and walnuts as soon as solid foods hit, week 6. He still recommends staying away from almonds until at least 3 months out as they are a bit more difficult to digest.

    Why Not Bypass?

It really came down to my doctors recommendation. He prefers the sleeve to bypass except for cases where diabetes or GERD are involved. The statistics he has seen most recently show very little difference in long term potential for weight loss.

    Dumping Syndrome?

I have had it once and it is pure misery. Sugar alcohols triggered mine. I stay away from them like the plague.
  14. Dwood Check out the videos from Dr. Mathew Weiner. He has some great information including the "myths" of WLS. Basically the "stretching" the pouch is virtually impossible.
  15. I had the same experience. After day 5, fluids have been no issue for me. I routinely will drink 1-2 liters during a workout. Asked the doctor about this, and he was actually quite pleased. Wait until you have solid foods...you will then know you have had surgery! The restriction is quite strange and takes awhile to get used to it.

    Left side pain

Where is your large incision? My doc explained to me there is a very large internal stitch at my large incision and people sometime overdue it physically and break that stitch. He warned me it is very painful, but not dangerous. I was pushing him to clear me for more physical activity at week 3.5 which was how the conversation came up. Definitely call them tomorrow AM

    Cheated already!

The dictionary defines cheating as: to break a rule or law usually to gain an advantage at something : to take something from (someone) by lying or breaking a rule So you didn't cheat at all as you didn't gain any advantage. Words have power! The one day that you didn't follow the plan is no big deal if you follow the plan all the other days. There is no shame here. You made a bad decision one day...not a big deal. Try to do better in the future. In all likelihood it won't be the last time you make poor decisions about food. We didn't agree as a group to have 85%+ of or stomachs removed because we had a healthy relationship with food!

HELP! Am I loosing too fast?

I wouldn't worry about losing too fast. If you are like most of us, you will lose quite a bit immediately post op and then about 3 weeks in, you will temporarily stop losing weight while your body sorts out what is going on. Focus on your Water, Protein, and exercise and all will be good. Congrats on your success so far.
  19. I had my only bad food experience with some Atkins Protein bars...dumped them...almost ended up back in the hospital. BTW, if you ever get severely dehydrated, PediaLite is magic for rehydration.
  20. For me, the first couple of days at home trying to get enough liquids in was the hardest part of the entire ordeal. I was fortunate that the swelling went down in my stomach very rapidly and by the end of the week I could drink as much as I wanted to without the little cups. It does get better!

    Pain Meds After Sleeve Surgery

I enjoyed the heck out of my liquid Vicodin for the first 5 days after I was home. It was like a very nice reward for enduring the lower right pain, only be able to drink 1-2 ounces at a time, and walking when I didn't really feel like it...lol. Becoming addicted was the last thing on my mind as I got sick of it, but it was very nice tool to be able to be out of pain and to go to sleep for a very short time period. Unless you have an issue, use the product as the tool it was intended to be used for: to make a difficult period of pain less unpleasant.

Eating out - I just need to vent.

Don't go to Europe! There are virtually no substitutions of any kind and the wait staff really don't care as tips are minimal part of their compensation. I have learned to be ok just wasting the food. I usually just order whatever chicken or fish I want (beef just doesn't sound appealing to me post WLS) cut it in half, and eat as much as my pouch comfortably likes (which is usually about 2/3 of that).
  23. At week 4 I hit a stall that lasted 3 weeks! It really was frustrating at first, until I read all the posts about this being perfectly normal. This past week it finally broke at I lost 6 lbs since I last weighed myself (every Friday morning I get on the scale). The bottom line is that this is a life long journey. Worry about establishing lifetime habits. My biggest challenge is slowing down while I am eating...I still want to wolf food down. I tried to keep the average weight loss in my mind during the stall. Even when I was at 4 lbs per week average (it was 8 lbs per week before the stall) that is still awesome and my ultimate weight goal was still going to happen this year!
  24. That certainly can be discouraging. I lost a 30 lbs. in the first 4 weeks and then hit a 3 week stall. Bottom line, there is no reason for concern unless it is 3 lbs in 6 MONTHS! Focus on your surgery recovery and make sure you are getting your walks in! It will happen.
