    Dinner dates...

From a man's point of view: Order an appetizer like Ahi Tuna for dinner and just say you are on a diet. We think women are always on a diet of some type anyhow. Bonus round, he will appreciate that you didn't bust his wallet taking you out. The dinner date is just to spend time with you anyhow. No need to share this surgery or any other personal information with him that you aren't comfortable with.

    Single Mother prepping!

I would ask a friend/family to stay with you for a week post surgery. There is A LOT of variation on pain, ability to move around, etc. You could be one of the lucky ones that just bounces out of bed with no real slow down (I have read about these people, but I am a little dubious on their experience) or like most of us, 5-7 days (including hospital) when moving around is a bit difficult and we tire extremely easy. I would HIGHLY recommend you don't try and go this alone for a week post op and have someone that can drive you home from the hospital.
  5. @readyforthislifechange If you are looking to be shown respect on this forum, I would suggest you post some of your basic statistics so that we can see if you are a serious player or not. The "negativity" you detect is the bull shit radar going off with some of the regulars on this forum. I have only been a member of this board since May, but have seen people post some seriously silly stuff and then wonder why their surgery "is failing them, I am not losing weight". Most of us are on a 3 meal, 2 snack program with at most 1200 calories (and this is only because I am 6'2" male I get this many calories....the shorter ladies get less). Your shake completely blows out of the Water what I would estimate 95% of the NUTs out there recommend as your shake is 400 calories and only leaves at most 800 calories for 2 more meals and 2 Snacks. If this shake works for you and your NUT and the weight is falling off, good for you. For the rest of us, it just isn't an option until maintenance. Share with us your weight loss experience so we can see that the 400 calorie shake is working for you please.
  6. I am an American airlines guy. They usually have one meal that has some good Protein content, i.e. salmon and the snack tray has the nuts. I did have a vodka and soda at the 3 month mark...it was really nice and I didn't become some raving drunk.
  7. @@cbruce125 My week 3 stall became a 3 week stall! I lost 27 lbs in the month of May and then exactly 2 lbs in the month of June. Since then between 15-20 lbs and now about 25 lbs from goal weight. Don't worry about it. If you follow the instruction manual, it will happen.
  8. I travel extensively for work and my first air trip was exactly 3 weeks after surgery. I made sure I checked my bags rather than lift them over my head for 2 weeks more. I bought a Water everytime after I went through security so I could stay hydrated. I packed my shaker and plenty of Protein powder individual pouches from unjury so I made sure I had my protein. Other than that, no real adjustments made. I have dropped 70+ lbs since May, so I enjoy fitting easily into the seats. I have had a couple of attendants ask me to tighten my seat belt (before I could barely get the damn thing buckled). I have had to pass on the free booze when I get upgraded
  9. I initially wanted the band as the sleeve and bypass sounded pretty darn scary. Very few doctors still perform the band procedure where I am, so after talking to 3 different doctors, I picked the one I felt most comfortable with and choose the sleeve. I asked him what his leak rate was, he told me he has never had one in over 8000 surgeries.
  10. @kingdavid757 Have you ever watched the video's from Dr. Matthew Weiner? Some of his findings contradict some the items on this list. Certainly can't go wrong from the top 10 list, but I still think it is interesting that still seems to be a lot of contradictory information floating around out there. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. http://drmatthewweiner.com/
  11. My doctor told me the story of the patient who gained weight after the sleeve...was eating 1/2 a cheescake and 3 milkshakes everyday starting at week 2

    Mentally hungry

My head hunger didn't really go away for 2 months. Your sleeve will keep you in check until your brain gets the message that things are going to change!

    100 Pounds GONE!

Well done! It really is amazing how fast it can fall off isn't it? Hopefully the maintenance side works as well.
  15. Thanks all...I guess it just happened so fast...especially after the entire month of June with the scale not moving. My waist went from a 48 to a 38 in just 5 months. I have had people that I haven't seen for awhile walk right past me without recognizing me. Guess it just takes a bit of time for the brain to catch up with the body.
  16. Was just going through my spreadsheet on weight lost and saw some really strange numbers...was sleeved in early May of this year. Weight lost per month: May: 27 lbs June: 2 lbs July: 14 lbs August: 18 lbs 1/2 of Sep: 10 lbs I know there was the dreaded 3 week stall in there, but the scale barely moved in June and now it seems like the further out I am the more and faster I am losing. I expected to lose a ton a first and then start slowing down significantly. Anyone else experiencing this sort of weight loss pattern? Seems strange, but definitely not complaining!
  17. Day 3 i had to bring the car to the shop...if course it had to have an issue right after i had surgery...murphy was right there!
  18. The muscle mass is definitely a good point. My goal from my surgeon was to be at 230 lbs by my 6 month appointment in november, which i have already hit. I will probably have this discussion with him then. I just didnt expect this type if result, especially after my bodies resistance at first. Thank you for your insight.
  19. @@Djmohr I am actually beginning to worry about losing too much weight. I guess that's why I asked the question if anyone has had this. I used as a goal weight what I weighed when I got out of the Army in the mid 90's and was at 10% body fat. At this rate I will be at goal in about 6 weeks, but then what? I have cranked up my calories to over 1500, but that's about as much as I can eat at this point without going into slider foods, which I really have no desire to do.
  20. I had the same sort of thing going on at 1 month...I was like "I thought this was supposed to kill my hunger". For me, it turned out to be "head hunger". I had spent the last 15 years managing stress through eating and the stress was still there and was triggering the hunger in my head. For me, this was the critical function that the sleeve performed for me, I can not eat to relieve the stress. After about month 3, the head hunger mostly has stopped and now I have to almost remind myself to eat sometimes. Hopefully this will be your experience as well.
  21. I did my fair share of saying good bye to my old friends. The thing is, that with the sleeve you can still have those things you love right now, just not a whole lot of them. The truth is, for me, I don't want any of them. Ice cream, fried food, taco bell...absolutely no interest in them. I still love an extra crispy piece of bacon, so sometimes I have them. The sleeve is a wonderful tool, and hopefully you will experience the relief from craving most of the junk we ate before.

    6 DAYS!

I was still thinking of canceling it the night before surgery! The first 10 days post-op are no fun, but the surgery is SOOO worth it. I am almost 5 months out and feel no negative residual effects, but I can tell you: 1. I can work in the yard in the summer time all day and not get that tired 2. I can fit in an airplane seat with no discomfort 3. I do not have to take ANY medications anymore 4. I wake up every morning at 5 AM with plenty of energy 5. I do not snore anymore The list goes on and on. For me, it was short term discomfort for what has so far been pretty easy weight loss. I have only had one incident with my sleeve and it really was my own fault, too many sugar alcohols at once (atkins bars), at week 4. Best of luck to you.

    When, oh when?!

How much are you walking everyday? I had some pretty bad pain at the large incision site and just getting in and out of bed took some serious planning. At first I was just managing maybe 1/2 a mile a day. On day 7, I was really irritable and just went for a 3 mile walk. During the walk, I felt the muscles at the incision site relax and by day 10, the pain was gone.
