    I need help...

Okay, one thing at a time, sweet girl. 1. You are going to be okay. 2. Vomiting is your body's way of saying "that was too much, please don't feed me that much again", so listen to your body and take a note on your phone or notepad, or whatever and keep it in mind. Our eyes are bigger than our stomachs, even a few months out. 3. Remember when your doc, or whoever told you before the surgery that the surgery itself isn't a fix? It's just a tool. It's a temporary thing while you work on the mental part of why we overeat and why we turn to food for comfort / boredom, etc. 4. If you've vomited, you've probably eaten too much at that sitting. 5. Yes, the stomach can stretch, but that probably takes a bit longer than the few months from your surgery, so I don't think an occasional overeating will stretch it. Just be mindful of each meal. 6. If you mess up, DON'T FRET. Just start the next meal or the next morning, a fresh start. 7. If you have the resources (insurance / finances / time), maybe research a counselor to help figure out the mental part of the puzzle. 8. You're not overreacting. 9. You're doing great!!!! 59 pounds is AWESOME!!
  2. So glad you're feeling good. Take it easy when you get home and drink as often as you can.
  3. I was told I had a hiatal hernia while doing all my pre-op stuff and had my endoscopy done. My surgeon did not repair it as he said it would complicate the recovery. But, I have heard of people that did have it repaired and everything was fine. I have never heard of a twisted stomach, so I can't comment on that. I'm sorry you're having complications with the GERD/Reflux. Prayers....

  6. That is pushing it, but everyone is different. I am a substitute clerk at a high school, so I have a desk job too. It was 9 days post op and that was pushing it, but it can be done. I have read that some people go back 3-4 days post op and are okay. Don't expect much of yourself when you get home for a few weeks, just working during the day will wear you out because those first few weeks post op, you are consuming so few calories, you're exhausted.
  7. Kathi66: I was sleeved May 15th and have lost 27 pounds. You're doing great!
  8. My dr's scale is 3.5 pounds more than my home scale. I know how you feel. Go by your home scale since that's the one you're on most. I'm sorry :-/

    Not getting my fluids in...

Don't worry about the numbers. Just make sure your urine color is good and that will tell you if you're dehydrated (for the most part). The first one of the day will most likely be dark, but the others after you start drinking should be clear and light yellow. Staying hydrated is your #1 job right now so you don't have a re-admission to the hospital.
  10. My surgery was May 15th. I told most everyone just because I knew the recovery was going to be awhile and our kids would tell their friends, so I just was open about it from the time I had the date booked. Just told a few family members before the surgery date was booked. Most my friends have been very supportive and caring, bringing meals, helping my husband get the kids to and from end-of-the-school year-activities, etc.
  11. Sounds like you're doing really good! The thinking about food a lot is totally normal. My surgery was May 15th and those first 2 weeks were terrible, then this week it got better. Each day is improvement in feeling better and the head hunger. Hang in there!
  12. I had countless "last" meals. My "last" meal at Chipotle, "last" meal at On the Border, "last" meal at Chuy's Mexican, "last" burger at Whataburger, etc........ go ahead and enjoy whatever now because it won't fit. I'm 15 days post-op and can get 1 sugar free popsicle in. liquid diet wasn't hard until day 2.
  13. I'm scheduled for surgery this Friday, May 15th! So excited! And ready. Can't believe it's finally here! I live in DFW area.

    May 15th surgery buddy/buddies?

Oh my gosh! I'm in Arlington too! We live near Ditto Elem (our kids went there). Our daughter goes to Young Jr High and our son is a freshman at Martin where I'm subbing all this week. Such a small world! I was at USMD with Dr Lyons.

4 days post op. Having troubles

I know acid isn't ideal, but I add 1 drop of lemon juice to my 1-oz of Water sips to cut my nausea. I'm sorry you're feeling nauseous! It's an unbearable feeling. Call your dr about the reflux.....mine recommended 80 mg of Prevacid twice daily, which I haven't been able to get but one dose (which is still four 20 mg pills) and it totally cut out all reflux symptoms.

    May 15th surgery buddy/buddies?

Today is day 10 post op and I'm feeling well, davidncara@sbcglobal.net How are you feeling? I drove yesterday for the first time and yes, walking has helped tremendously. I am really struggling to get in all the water and protein. Up to 40 oz water and 30g protein.
  19. Surgery was Friday, May 15th. Doc generally keeps patients in hospital for 2 days and would have kept me a 3rd if I wanted, but I was anxious to get home. Friday I remember nothing from after the surgery. Saturday was a rough nauseous day, nurse brought me a Phenergran injection, so that knocked me for a 16 hour loop right into Sunday. Finally kept everything down from about noon Sunday and since then. This is rough though. Not easy AT ALL!!! Praying for all the patients that have had their sleeves done, and the patients in the process of getting theirs done. One day at a time.
  20. Every shake brand I tried and every possible fruit / flavor, etc... combination made me just want to barf. Powder, pre-mixed, milk based, Water based, whatever it was all just disgusting. I finally resigned myself to Isopure clear They look like Gatorade. GNC has them. They come in 20 oz bottles and has 40 g of Protein. I've even been making Isopure popsicles and that's helped too! Black bean Soup is pretty much all pureed too, so you can try that as well.
  21. Totally normal! I asked the bariatric director at the hospital during my pre-op (she'd just had the surgery herself in January) what advice does she have for me that wasn't given to me in any of the packets and pre-op info that she wishes she'd known? Her answer: no warning diarrhea. I tucked my tail between my legs and bought some depends pre-op and they came in quite handy! Liquid in - liquid out. Hang in there. It should get better. Laurie

    Third day post op

This will pass. I promise! I vomited the 2 1/2 days after mine too and was totally miserable, then for some reason, just started feeling better. Are you taking really tiny (like barely getting your tongue wet) sips? I threw up when I was taking 2 gulps of the 1 oz cup. Then timed myself to take 9 sips - one each minute- to get the whole 1 oz down. And are they giving you anti-nausea medicine? They gave me tons of Zophran and that helped too. I'm sorry it's rough for you right now. Praying for the nausea to subside soon.

    4 days post op.....

Another thing that's helped with the sips going down are putting my arms straight up in the air. Immediately releases the pressure. Nurse just called and ordered me to take 80mg Prilosec 2x daily and since I did that, I've had very little fizzle feeling in back of throat. It was getting so bad it felt like Pop Rocks candy sitting in my esophagus. Today was definitely better though. Praying for all y'all!

    4 days post op.....

So sorry Meryam! My nausea went away Sunday. They wouldn't discharge me from the hospital until I had no nausea. Are you sipping slowly and tiny amounts? It takes me about 9 minutes to get 2 oz down. We'll get through this! Laurie
