Mayo in your tuna salad or egg salad?

Mayo in your tuna salad or egg salad?
Arielle Phoenix replied to Karlnjax's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@sparksrn, sorry for the delayed response I'm recovering from pneumonia. A long limb bypass was done in the early bypass days. They reattach the Y limb much further down causing less absorption, still. They did it in hopes of giving really heavy people, I was 340 lbs., at 5' 3", a bigger advantage. It was later discovered to only have a slight WLS advantage, and, unfortunately, creates yet bigger nutritional deficiencies. Although, it has prevented me from eating a lot of the foods with higher fat quantities. It certainly helped motivate me to not eat them! Lol Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Pain in front of stomach when walking?

Could be a hernia, but guessing can make you unnecessarily scared! I'd go to the doc and listen to your body's needs. Go gently! Good luck! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

I take Bariatric Advantage Ultra Multi and it's great coverage! The other OTC's don't absorb, according to my doctors. Good luck! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
When could you start to eat solid food
Arielle Phoenix replied to ashleybrady87's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
So sorry honey!!! How miserable! It took me a long time too. I didn't have a stricture, but my intestines reacted badly to the procedure, open long- limb RNY. They shut down my whole GI tract and refused to function. It was exasperating! I had to go back in for hydration after dumping and dumping. It was miserable! It did settle down, eventually! It's unique to your body chemistry and anatomy. Hang in there! Stay close to your doc! That's a very little amount of calories! Stay hydrated and watch for signs of dizziness and low blood sugar, blood pressure. Stay safe! You will make it! This isn't surgery for the faint of heart, to be sure! You are not alone!️ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Mayo in your tuna salad or egg salad?
Arielle Phoenix replied to Karlnjax's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the long limb RNY and can't process the full fats, sadly, and my surgeon said that I couldn't eat it either. I have tried to eat the other stuff and gotten very sick trying! So, I work with what I've got! I use 1 tbs of low fat mayo and 1 tbs of Fage 0% plain yogurt, then I add onion and garlic powder and other seasonings and enjoy! It tastes great and fills me up! 7 years out. what do you do?
Arielle Phoenix replied to diva83's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Good for you James! After my long limb RNY, fats can't process normally at all in my body, sad to say! I get very sick if I eat the wrong kinds or amounts. I have no choice but to eat low fat. I have gotten desperately ill when trying to eat a small amount of full fat cheese or whipped cream without sugar. It's discouraging, but have to work with what I've got! I admire your commitment and level headedness! You have done a great job! Go for it and live happily! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Arielle Phoenix replied to diva83's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I forgot to add about the Vitamins, sorry! I had the open long limb RNY surgery. The malabsorption is very critical! In the beginning, I was broke and had a hard time getting money together. Then I got really sick! I was critically anemic and lacking in most everything! I had to ask for help from family members until my financial resources improved, but I got the vitamins and supplements that I was missing. I began to improve right away. Now I take Bariatric Advantage Ultra Multi plus Iron, Calcium Citrate chewables and add in extra others on my own, like fish oil, that are in gel form. We don't absorb anything from any of the over the counter pill form vitamins. They go straight through our bodies unprocessed. Sad fact! I had to learn the hard way, Lol! Arielle Phoenix replied to diva83's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm 15 yrs out from my RNY and experienced the same. I have simply made myself accountable! Back to the plan given to me by the surgeon and tracking my food with my fitness pal or sparkpeople. Back to being honest with what goes in and getting emotional support when I want to eat my feelings! Lol Also, adding in more Protein has helped a lot, using shakes again to boost protein levels and then getting out and being more active! I have always been a lazy girl, so getting myself moving has made a big difference! I don't eat any sugar or refined carbs at all! Surgeon told me that that was my lifetime commitment to myself! If nothing changes, well, same results! I love using the forums for support and love to follow theworldaccordingtoeggface.com blog by fellow gb companion Michelle Vicari! She has great creativity, recipes and is just fun to follow! Hope this helps a bit! Good luck on your journey and keep in touch! Support makes all the difference!️ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
I support you and hear you, loudly and clearly! This journey isn't for whimps! For sure! Lol I, too, have struggled with fear, emotions and wanting carbs back. I lost an initial 170 pounds, but got scared, as a survivor of sexual abuse. I put back on 20 pounds and have been up and down with those. My goal is still 40 lbs away. I decided that there was no way, as an emotional compulsive overeater, that I could change my old defense of hiding behind food and using it to medicate my emotions without getting help. I have gone to therapy, worked my butt off writing, talking, praying and meditating, as well as, tracking my food and being honest. It all works together for me. If I leave any part out, I go right back to old coping skills, which got me to my pre-surgery weight to begin with! It's not easy, to be sure, but I am learning to love myself right where I am today! I hope you gather strength and hope in simply knowing that you aren't alone on this WLS journey! Good job reaching out and deciding to turn your direction around! We care ,️ Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

I was told by my surgeon that sugar got me to 340 lbs and needing surgery and that to lose that, something had to change. That being said, I also am a serious sweet addict, obviously! There are a couple of things I do to help with these cravings. First, I write about the feelings coming up, talk about it and wait it out! Then, I do a lot of great recipes that are really good and satisfy the craving. I love Quest Protein bars! They taste just like Cookies or whichever flavor, they fill me up and satisfy the craving. Second, I go to theworldaccordingtoeggface.com blog, where Michelle Vicari, a fellow WLS companion, has a ton of great recipes, without sugar, that satisfy! She has a chocolate protein cake recipe, protein ice cream, and many other great recipes that are good food, can be planned into your day, and that rock in taste and satisfaction! I know that ,for me, to ever go back to eating as I did before surgery, will get me the same results it always did! Good luck! I hear you loud and clear! Together we can get through this! I care!️ Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

I find a few in Ross clothing stores, oddly, and there are some in Bevmo, a liquor/barista supply store. There are sometimes some in Walmart, and there are plenty in Smart and Final. All of those stores are near me, here in Long Beach California, however, I don't know what is near you. You can buy them online at Torani's website, also, DaVinci and skinny taste, all knock offs, are on the web. Amazon has them all! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

No, they take your weight at the time of application and consultation and use that. The pre-op weight loss is to help you form a sense of commitment and serious intention, to shrink your liver to make surgery easier and to help jump start your weight loss journey! Good luck! We're rooting for you!???????????????????? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk -

When I had my surgery 15 years ago, the only shakes my doc used were 70 calorie HMR shakes with a huge Vitamin pill. It tasted very badly and the pill was nasty and made the shake in the am very gritty and vitaminnnnnny! Yuk!!!! There are so many more available now, thank God! I use Isopure zero carb, GNC pro performance whey isolate 28, and SEI Nutritionals Max Protein powder. If you use Torani s/f flavored syrups and ice you can make them taste great! Good luck all you new ops!!! ️ Congratulations on starting your new life! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk -

Yes, I went from 340 to 317 for my surgery, RNY, 15 yrs ago. But things were very different back then. They told me to simply cut back my calories and walk more! It was hard! I had been binging big time due to a big emotional meltdown! But they told me that after a lifetime of losing and gaining, if I really wanted to show my willingness to have this surgery, I could do it! I had to dig deep to show my commitment and willingness to change! I cried a lot! But, by eliminating the binge foods and going back to weighing and measuring my food, it came off! Of course, I wad really out of control having panic attacks, so I was eating whole pies and half gallons of ice cream at once! Of course, stopping eating all of that food, I started to lose! It was a deeply emotional and spiritual thing for me to be willing to surrender my wall of protection after being sexually abused for the first 18 yrs of my life! But, I did it knowing that doing things my way, was going to kill me! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
