Has anyone taken topamax after surgery?
carebear42 replied to Evenkeel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I took Topamax for weight loss and it gave me severe stomach cramps. I had to go to the emergency room it got so bad. I was told it couldn't have been Topamax that caused it. They gave me anti-cramping meds and I didn't feel right for weeks. I stopped the Topamax for a few weeks. I started them back again and the day after the cramps came again. Stopped the meds and started one more time a few weeks later...cramps again. Clearly it was the Topamax! That stuff was the devil for me. I have two other friends that took it and lost lots of weight only to get kidney stones... Clarification...I had taken all this BEFORE I had surgery... -
I had Dr. Tanner. I was very pleased. The scope isn't too bad. No worries. What doctor are you going with?

I LOVE buying clothes now! I used to hate it, get depressed and be miserable. I'm trying so hard to wait on buying a lot since I still have more to lose. Down 50 pounds now!!! wahoo! -
My doctor said NO to surgery!

Find a different doctor. I have lost 50 pounds since June 3rd and I only needed to lose 100 as well. I had gastric bypass and would do it all over again in a heartbeat. My only regret is not doing it sooner! -

Nauseous in the middle of the night
carebear42 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello! My gastric bypass was exactly 2 months ago on June 3rd. I have been doing well, sticking to my diet and taking my vitamins. Last night (morning) about 2am I woke up feeling like I was seconds away from throwing up. This has never happened to me before so I was curious if anyone else has had this happen. I have almost thrown up twice due to eating too fast but have managed to keep everything down so far. I ate dinner around 5:30ish with nothing after that so why 2am would this happen? -
"I don't know why you need surgery, you're not that big."

Same thing happened to me when I was jumping through hoops for my lap-band. The "ladies" at the support group meeting that I was required to attend decided to tell me that they didn't think I needed surgery, since I was "so small." Yeah, no. I had a BMI of 39-40 at the time. EXACTLY! My BMI was 40. My surgeon didn't argue the case so why would they? -

My last meal was at 5:30 and I didn't eat anything after that. That's what I thought was kinda weird. I wasn't feeling weird or anything either. Maybe it was just a random thing. It hasn't happened again but I will call the doc if it does. -
I can't wait until my wedding is too big! Something to look forward to!

Still weigh more than surgery day!
carebear42 replied to valcatlett4's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Measure, measure, measure. You really need to stick to about 1/4 cup right now. I am almost 8 weeks out and still only eat 1/4 cup of yogurt every morning. -
How are all you June peeps doing?? I am doing well. Down 30 pounds since my surgery June 3rd. I'm taking my vitamins and feel really good. Hope to hear from everyone!!

I put the unflavored in a 32 ounce of crystal light. Crystal Light helps get my water down and the protein to boost!

You are doing great! My surgery was June 3rd. My highest weight was 234 and I'm down to 204! I asked my doctor and he said I was doing very well. It seemed slow but I'll take every pound I can get! Congrats! -
Before surgery, of course!

No Wonder I Wasn’t Skinny!

My mom cooked often and we rarely ate out. She tried to cook healthy foods but I was a pretty picky eater. I wouldn't try new foods at all and wanted to stick to things I knew I liked. My one thing I wish my parents did different was have me drink water instead of sodas. I loved sodas! I wasn't really heavy until after high school and then I ate and drank whatever I wanted. My kids aren't allowed sodas except for special occasions. They are allowed water and milk. More often than not they will now chose water over soda! Yay! -

It does makes SUCH a difference! I can tell my body is changing just in the little thing. When I walk my arms and hips don't collide like they used to! It's really nice! -

I am one month out from surgery and have lost 22.8 pounds. I feel wonderful and am looking forward to the rest of it coming off. I started at 234. I'm assuming I'm a slow loser since I see people dropping way more than that at one month out but I will be thrilled with every pound I lose! Anyone else a slow loser?
