I had a roux-en-Y gastric bypass done in 2012 and am currently in hospital suffering from acute nerve pain, in my groin and legs and also tingling in my feet. I have had a CT scan, ultrasound and MRI and so far they cannot find a cause. My research has brought me to peripheral neuropathy or polyneuropathy, apparently in the USA this is common after weight loss surgery, particularly RNY. Has anyone has anything like this happen to them? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

They thought in hospital that it was a thiamin deficiency and put me on supplements but it turned out in the end it wasn't that. Of things for it to be... It was the onset of shingles. It's turned out to be unrelated to my bypass thankfully, and most likely brought on by stress and being run down. I'm in to my 5th week since the rash started and am still in a lot of pain and am trying to find a drug that helps without making my brain like mush Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Anyone else experince numbness after surgery?
josnjos replied to fordgirlalways's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Lynnalex how is your brother now, and how are you? I am currently in hospital with acute nerve pain in my groin and legs, I had an RNY gastric bypass 4 years ago and have lost 90kg total. I was crossing my legs a lot so am wondering if this is what I have done. How is it proven? My doctors are having a huge amount of trouble trying to find out exactly what is wrong. Hi LBT Friends, Since I was banded in January 2008 I have suffered two of these "Esophageal Spasms". The second was much worse than the first, and I concerned they will keep happening. It is a sharp stabbing pain in the chest, that radiates through to my back between my shoulder blades and across underneath my ribs. It starts as just a small pain (similar to wind pain) and just builds to this pain that is so unbearable I thought I was dying. The first one I was able to drive myself to hospital and had an overnight stay. The second one last week was much more severe, I was rocking back and forth and just screaming in agony. It got to the point where I could not breathe and was hyperventilating, and I am sure I was just about to lose conciousness. Luckily the paramedics arrived just in time and administered oxygen. The only thing that takes this pain away to the point that I am comfortable is morphine. I had dosages at home from the paramedics, in the ambulance on the way to hospital and then again twice in hospital. After 12 hours the pain just goes away and other than being tired I am back to normal. I really don't want to scare people, I am interested in hearing from bandsters that have had this happen to them in a hope of having a better understanding of it all! Thanks for taking the time to read my thread. Joshie-Boo.

I also know about these really well, have had three since being banded, and have had to call paramedics and go to hospital each time. Definately far more pain than a blockage, it actually feels like I am going to die!
