I drink smooth move tea daily! It doesn't make me run to the restroom, but keeps things soft and painless when I do go. If I suffer from severe constipation, I continue with that but add a laxative when I know I'll be home to go. Definitely not like prior to surgery. Just know it's very common and happens to us all!

To Catheter or Not to Catheter?
I'mALoserBaby replied to Sutter Phoenix's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor required one in the operating room, but I requested it be taking out in PACU before I woke up. It was, and I felt fine. Don't stress about it, you will do great even if you have to get a catheter for a day. Good luck! -
Overnight bag? What did you pack?
I'mALoserBaby replied to MissLiss's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had a one night stay and brought: -Pajama pants and tank to wear under my gown (I felt more comfortable that way) -Underwear -Chapstick -Cell phone and charger -Wet Ones Wipes (I wasn't sure I would use them and they ended up being my best friend. It's hard to wash your hands after the restroom with the pulse ox on your finger, so wet wipes were a godsend!) -Pillow -Brush Good luck! -
How many of you continue the shakes in your diet after many months after surgery?
I'mALoserBaby replied to bellabill's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My doc and NUT are the same. They want me to focus on eating "real" food and not getting protein or nutrients from the shakes. After all, you wouldn't be able to eat everything in the shake you're drinking with your tiny stomach, right? It sounds crazy (and did to me too), especially with all you see on this site about counting protein. I would just say listen to your body and do what's right for you. -
Hi guys! I am a newbie to posting but have been following for a while. I am struggling with a plateau (I know this is common), and after talking to my NUT she said to just focus on eating only when hungry and to eliminate my Protein drink that I am still doing in the morning. I usually drink it even if I'm not hungry to make sure I get my 60g of protein but my NUT is saying I don't need to focus on protein at all and just focus on eating different things and ONLY when hungry. She specifically said I do not need to worry about getting 60g in. So my question is...has anyone else's NUT told them not to worry about counting protein? I thought that was the main hurdle post op, but I guess I could be wrong.

Not Counting Protein?
I'mALoserBaby replied to I'mALoserBaby's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@stephaniestroupmcintosh No it wasn't about calories since it's practically impossible to eat too much at this stage. It's also not the first time she's said it (it was mentioned in a class she teaches as well that we have to attend prior to surgery not too worry about counting protein). I will definitely ask the doctor about it today but I'm sure they are on the same page. I was just so surprised because everyone here always stressing Protein so much. Without my Protein drinks I think I only get maybe 30-40g protein a day and I just didn't think that was enough. I also said I focus on eating protein first so I'm not getting a ton of veggies, and she said to do a bite of protein and then a bite of veggie and so on. That also seemed crazy since everyone always says here to eat Proteins first then veggies and then, if you have room, carbs. I'm just trying to figure out what is the right plan for me to follow. It's confusing with a ton of different info! -
Not Counting Protein?
I'mALoserBaby replied to I'mALoserBaby's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thanks everyone! I was just worried because you know you hear stories about deficiencies and losing a little hair and such. She also said they don't want me using Protein shakes anymore anyway and just focusing on eating. Her rationale was 'Would I be able to eat all that's in that protein shake?', probably not. So therefore it leads to overeating. I guess it just seems scary to eat and not worry about counting protein...it will take some getting used to! I appreciate all your comments -
Haha @@CanyonBaby , that is great! And you are so welcome, I hope you like it like I do! (A little tip if you do put it in tea and not mixed in a smoothie or something is to keep a spoon handy and stir frequently. I do find some of it settles on the bottom if I don't do that. Otherwise, it's perfect!)

@CanyonBaby You can find it on Amazon I know for sure, but maybe a quick google search would provide more options. I did the individual packets to make it easier, but you could certainly just buy a bottle which may be cheaper. Hope this helps! I found (and my NUT approved) Upcal D for my Calcium supplement. I put a packet in hot tea, but you can use whatever you like, and it has no flavor that I can taste. Hope you find something you like! http://www.amazon.com/Global-Health-Upcal-D-packets/dp/B000SONA14
