Why am i not surprised that i am failing at this too.....
Bigb replied to kristi43's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I understand where you are coming from. I had little success the first year. I lost about 40 between Jan and May of this year. On May 15 I had another fill to 9cc in a 10cc band and that changed it all. When I eat I definately get the signals to stop eating. I know that even with the signals being rather painful sometimes it is still hard to get up and walk away from the table. I have seen two different therapist and it helps. Cardio is the way to go. -
I'm still here too. Ponce wouldn't take my insurance so I went to Dr. Land at memorial. Getting the band is just the begining.

thanks for the support. getting the band is just the begining.

Thanks Pete I've been trying hard. I bought a bicycle in july and that really helped to increase my cardio. Not been doing so well on the eating the last couple days but I still have it under control.

My first post on here was titled " its not working for me." I feel like you are going through the same problems I went through. Just stick with it. You are doing the right thing by seeing the Doc and remember that we are all pulling for you.

Hi I started at 450 lbs. I was banded on 12-27-06 and lost 65 pounds pre-op and right after the surgery. On January 4th 2008 I weighed 444 pounds. That's right I gained it all back. I decided to get with it.I had already had 4 fills. I also have a 10cc band and at that point I had 7.5ccs in it. I did the eat right and exercise that we have all done a thousand times and lost done to about 410 pounds by the end of march. I suffered a great lose of a family member and did not lose any weight during April. I went back to the doc on May 15 and got another fill. He added another 1.5 ccs to put me up to 9 ccs and that day changed my life. Today I weighed 343 pounds. The band works. I felt the same as you, like it was a useless piece of crap. I now have respect for the power of the band. I would like to help if at all possible... BRAD

I rode 10 miles saturday with my neighbor. It was his first ride and was more like a leisurely cruise for me. Sunday I rode the same loop by myself and raced the clock. 48 minutes to do 10 miles an average of 12.5 mph. That is slower than the average Ihad on the 17 miles last week but this loop has many more hills and much rougher roads. I still have a long way to go to get to where I want to be. I also want to say that it is good to see so many of you ladies going back to school. I went back when I was 23 or 24 and had I child and a wife to hold down the fort and that helped a lot. The return to school paid off termendously for me and I'm sure you guys will see the same positive outcome.

I rode 17 miles saturday morning. Getting closer to 25. 15 mph average. I didn't think that was bad for only having been at this for about a month.

I have a Polaris ranger. It is one of those side by side utvs. I like it a lot, it is a handy machine

I rode on the trainer for the first time today. I didn't like it. It was hotter than dammmmmit outside so it was the only way to get on the bike. I rode for 15 minutes of so and decided to hit the weights instead. I lifted pretty heavy today. I'm trying to keep a lot of my muscle mass and just loose the fat. Times in the past that I lost a lot of weight I lost a lot of muscle too and I don't want to do that this time. I want to be a stud when I grow up.

I live in a small town in East Tennessee that is about half way between Knoxville and Chattanooga. Around here it seems like you are constantly climbing a hill. I know that you have to go down hill at sometime, but the climbs last a lot longer than the descents. The heat and humidity have been rough but I have managed to get a couple times this week. I am on midnight shift the rest of the week so I'll have to ride when I get off in the mornings. Hopefully one day I will inspire someone the same as you guys have inspired me.

I got me a mountain bike to switch the the workouts up some. The mountain biking is harder. It is amazing how much a little rock can slow you down. I rode a 10.1 mile loop on my road bike the other evening in 50 minutes. I still have a long weigh to go. Good to see where some of you guys started at.

Hi Juli. I've got a lot of catching up do, but I have the rest of my life to do it.

I am from Decatur Tn. A small town about fifty miles north of Chattanooga. I am married and have two children. A boy 5 and a girl 17 months. I was banded in December of 06 but didn't get serious till Jan of 08. Seems like us men are out numbered on most of the threads. Thanks for including me. By the way my name is Brad.

I bought a bike sunday. it is a trek fitness 7.3. I rode 8 miles tuesday morning and it was a wake up call type of experience. How many miles did you guys start with. I still weigh 359 so what is a reasonable expectation for what I should be able to do?

light weights higher reps for toning up. heavier weight lower reps builds mass. I use the weights just as a device to move more.

Seems like it was the University of Georgia that was saying that chocolate milk was the superior recovery drink. My nurses suggested that I do the protein for breakfast because I have trouble eating in the morning and that would be the only time they would accept me doing a meal replacement. I use the GNC Wheybolic something or another. It has enzymes to help break down the protein to aid in absorbtion. It has 60 grams of protein per serving and 270 calories when mixed with water. I have been thinking of cutting the serving to two scoops rather than three because I believe that 40 grams of protein is the uppper limit of what your body can asorb per meal. Any input?

I started at 450 and now am 362. Once you get the band tight enough to feel good restriction you will drop the weight faster.
-
For breakfast or after the workout.

I do it sometimes. mostly in the winter when I'm stuck inside. Right now i'm walking and riding the stationary bike till I scrape up the money to buy a new bike. I like to punch the heavy bag and workout with focus mitts when I have a partner.

I think it would hard to gain 2 lbs of muscle in a week. I don't have an answer for you cause I am facing the same problem. Maybe we just need to take a closer look at our diets. My weight can move a lot either way in a matter of hours much less a week.
