I flew 3 weeks ago and left my food in my purse, both ways, and they didn't ask me to remove it.
-
I have flown 3 times since my RNY and each time that stupid scanner indicates an issue in my abdominal region. I keep telling them there is nothing in my pockets or pants. No bling, just plain pants. It has to have something to do with the surgery. I don't have an apron either.

How is it possible one gains weight after Gastric Bypass despite Dumping Syndrome
KimDawn replied to Gabriel29's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sugar doesn't make me dump - it's the fat in steaks and fried eggs, etc. I learned that I can have sugar with no problems at all. However, with this new discovery means weight gain, which I did during the holidays. But that is OK as I was underweight and looked sick. Now I'm where I should be but I have to be VERY careful not to overdo it on the sweets. -
Totally worth every penny. I was able to use my flexible spending account last year. I got lucky as my deductible last year was $1100, this year it is $3500! My hairdresser was able to get a loan through the local credit union that was next door to the bariatric clinic. She calls it her "skinny" payment. Good luck to you.

I had to take Carafate for the first several months. It helped with acid re flux and healing of the esophagus.

Just got revision from sleeve to bypass!
KimDawn replied to StartingOverAfterCancer2's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hello Mili! My doc recommended the RNY over Sleeve due to my type II diabetes. She said there is only a 70% chance of remission of diabetes with the sleeve vs. a 100% remission rate with the RNY. PLUS – no more acid reflux with RNY. I, too, had my heart set on the sleeve until I had this conversation. Diabetes was gone by the time I got home from the hospital. Now my A1C is at 5.0!! -
I've always used a straw for my Protein shake and my afternoon glass of tea. I haven't had any issues. i just can't drink my premier Protein Shake w/out one.

YOGA-I am a beginner any advice
KimDawn replied to pdallariva's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am a Yoga beginner myself. But since I don't want to go out alone, I do yoga videos for beginners (YouTube) in the comfort of my living room. So far so good. Since I'm at goal, I need to tone and tighten. AND my sister-in-law reminded me, that at our age, we need the strength and the balance. hehe -
Hello! I was taught to take 30 minutes to eat my meals. My husband will remind me to slow down and chew chew chew. Good luck in your journey.
-
Hello! When I started this journey I was 260 pounds (Sept 2014) and today I'm at 125. Pant size 24 to 6. My goal was 130 but for the life of me, I can't stop loosing. I meet with my NUT soon so hopefully she can give me food ideas to maintain. Fortunately, it has been a smooth ride and I'm glad I got on board! The only issue I'm dealing with is restless leg which I didn't have before. I'm hoping that it will subside soon. I want to thank everyone for your support and advice. I wish everyone much success! -Kim

Today is my 1 year surgiversary!
KimDawn replied to KimDawn's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Hello! Thank you all for the words of encouragement and the the leg advise. I am taking Magnesium now. I see my bariatric doctor in 2 days for my one year check up and labs. I will talk with her about it. My daily intake: I have a premier Protein shake on the way to work. Morning snack is a fruit or nuts lunch is Chili or salad or tuna dinner is whatever we can find at home or when we go out (we carpool and my husband is not on any particular diet) So if we go to Taco Bell, I get a taco, toss the shell and eat the rest like a salad Otherwise - we grill steaks 2-3 nights a weak (emptynesters - we can have steak every night) Rib eye steaks make me dump so I have to get either a Filet Mignon or sirloin. End the day with a Protein Shake or sugar free pudding. That is a typical day - I don't have much of an appetite BUT some days - I can't get enough to eat and usually end up with a tummy ache by the time I go to bed. When will I learn not to eat so late? UGH! Today I'm sick with a cold/flu for the first time with my new tummy and I'm researching what I can take, cold medicine wise. I haven't been sick in 2 years. So I will be searching this lovely side for any advise. You have have a GREAT day! -Kim -
I had this happen and it did go away. I was also told it was ketosis and it is temporary. Hang in there. -Kim

Water/Protein is a full time job
KimDawn replied to DeletedMember's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hang in there. For me, getting the water in during the first week was hard which is why I was in the hospital 3 days opposed to two. I promise, it will get easier with time. Just keep the glasses by your chair and keep sipping. My husband would make a tick mark on a piece of paper every time I finished a 4 oz glass of water. It helped us keep track and gave me a visual goal. I didn't do so good with the protein for a couple of weeks. Good luck my dear. -
Disappointed doesn't even begin to describe what I currently feel...

3 weeks post-op ate eggs last night thought I might die? Scary ...
KimDawn replied to BonnieJo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am a "late" dumper - occurring 2 hours after I eat anything fatty (egg fried in butter; rib-eye steak). It feels like a wave of the flu - dizziness, clammy, dry heaves. It lasts for about 30 minutes and then I fall asleep. I feel wonderful when I wake up. But boy it is not a fun ride. My NUT said that gravity helps - get up and walk around, but honestly while I'm going thru this; I just want to lie down on my cold leather couch and pray for relief. -
I chose the RNY due to my Type II diabetes and acid re flux. They are both gone now. I dump when I eat fatty food such as rib eye steak or eggs fried in butter. Haven't tried sweets. My mom bakes me sugar free Peanut Butter Cookies and choc chip cookies. That this how I deal with my sweet tooth which has recently returned. I am 11 months out.

This darn butt of mine! Is yours acting up too?
KimDawn replied to CharlotteKat's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I, too, have purchased three pads, 2 for home and 1 for work. But I'm finding that sitting at church is very uncomfortable. My bony back is not liking the hard wooden pew. I tend to sit forward during service. Didn't think I would miss my back fat. -
Back Ache and 5 weeks out
KimDawn replied to Starfish17's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello! After surgery, I had back pains and it was due to me favoring/holding my stomach. Doc told me that once my tummy heals, my back will feel better and he was right. This too shall pass! Keep up the good work. -
Are you COLDER after surgery?
KimDawn replied to bugsy72's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Chris, take 1 tablet twice a day with food. You can get it anywhere that sell B-12, biotene and other Vitamins (wal-mart, walgreens, etc). I haven't had a hot flash since. LOVE IT!!! OH and keep up the good work! -
I stopped diet coke 6 months before surgery (when I attended the seminar and was all hyped about surgery). I started putting sugar free Kool-aid (the squirt bottles) in my bottle Water and been doing that for 1 1/2 years. Love my Kool-aid. I keep all flavors on my microwave. I call it my Kool-aid choir. I haven't had pop since but I occasionally have tea with splenda.

Immediate weight loss after bypass surgery?
KimDawn replied to kcbrook13's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Once it starts coming off, it will be fast. I didn't see a change for 2 weeks due to gas and Water weight. AND I was still in the same clothes for the first 2 months. Now,10 months later, I'm down 130 pounds. Just be patient, it WILL happen! Good luck and congrats! -
I went from a 8 1/2 wide to a size 8 medium AND I can wear tall boots, with or without the zipper!!! Necklaces do fit much better and I don't feel like I'm choking.
