Hey guys! Well, my nine month anniversary was on Christmas day and every month we take pictures of my progress. I still have a few pounds to lose so I asked my dietitian how do I make this stop, I don't want to look too sickly. She told me that at 135 pounds to slowly introduce good carbs and fats into my diet and watch the scale. Well, with the holidays and the death of my mother in law, it has been real easy to slow down my weight loss. I guess you could say I'm at a stall at 137 and have been for a month. Which is fine, I have come a long way and looking back I can't believe how fast it went. The first 2 months after surgery I was frustrated because I was still in my 2x and 3x clothes and not seeing a change. But by the 3th month my pant sizes were changing every 3-4 weeks. I was shopping at Goodwill every month buying a new pair of pants. I'm now in a size 8, CRAZY! I'm so scared that I will wake up and it would have been a glorious dream. This forum and the support from you all have been a blessing for me and I thank you! May you all have a healthy and slimming 2016! God bless, -Kim

Thank you! I see that we have about the same numbers. I can't believe you already had plastic surgery. How did that go? If I might say (and you already know this) but be patient, you will break the stall. I finally did. I went to my bariatric surgeon today and I'm down again. He said even if I don't loose in the next year, my body will still change, muscle tone, skin, etc. He doesn't want to see me again for another year. woohoo So I think I will wait a few more months before I see a plastic surgeon. Keep up the good work, the worse is over, IMO. We are AWESOME!!!!

Worried about weight gain 8 month po
KimDawn replied to Sam58's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow SAM that is awesome!!! Good job. I've lost around 123 pounds since Sept 2014. Talk to Renee and she can give you tips on what you can or can't snack on. At least I'm a huge snacker. -
Are you COLDER after surgery?
KimDawn replied to bugsy72's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was cold at first and then BAM - hot flashes hit (due to my age). My inner thermostat changed every 30 days for the last 2 months. As recommended by my gynecologist, I started taking Black Cohosh. That stuff works great! Now I'm just cold all the time. I think it's great, I can now wear cute sweaters and even layer for a cuter look. -
Does burping mean my pouch is full?
KimDawn replied to bugsy72's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I, too, get the hiccups when I eat too fast and boy they are painful. My husband just looks at me and grins. He knows I did it wrong. -
I was lucky in that my hair dresser had a sleeve 2 years before my RNY. I, too, lost hair from months 4 - 6 but she told me be sure to take in a lot of Protein and wash with a protein shampoo (Bain De Terre Keratin Phyto-Protein). My hair is starting to thicken up but she is keeping my hair on the short side until gets fuller and not so straggly on the ends. I also took Biotin for a year and gained a mustache. Not cool. So I quit the biotin but can't quit the mustache.

Drinking after eating
KimDawn replied to RGraham87's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
While I was told to follow the 30/30 rule, I was also told to I can take "rescue" sips if needed. -
Can you get too much protein after surgery
KimDawn replied to Stephschmidt1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wasn't so nauseous after my RNY; however, my friend who got the sleeve was always nauseous so her surgeon prescribed her some Phenergan to rub on her wrists. It worked instantly. Maybe you can get that from your doctor. Good luck! -
Worried about weight gain 8 month po

I totally understand. I met with my dietitian last week and she said in 5 more pounds I can start eating carbs and more good fats to slow down my weight loss as I'm close to goal. I don't want to overdo and gain back the weight. But she said to start one new carb or fat a week and watch the scale just to be sure I don't go overboard. One day at a time Sam. You can do this. I believe surgery was the hardest part and we are well past that. -
Believe it or not, it does get better. My husband kept reminding me that I'm not 20 anymore. I don't remember my C-sections being so painful. The first week was the worst but then I figured out that my husband was giving me 1 pain pill every 4 hours and the script called for 2 every 4 hours. I didn't see the actual bottle until the 2nd week when he went back to work. I told him he was fired as my caregiver. When I came back to work at one month my BFF asked me if I'm glad I did it. I told her to ask me again at 2 months. But 4 months out, I am happy and glad I did it. Hang in there Jackie and Good luck!

Made you look. I believe these are called NSV. In the car: I can pop the truck w/o having to open the door to reach the latch on the floor I can reach down to pick something up off the floor w/o unbuckling my seatbelt I can climb into the truck w/o my husband pushing me in (but that doesn't stop him for helping me - he likes the view) LOL At home: I can bend down to cut my own toenails w/o gasping for air after each toe I can get up and down from the floor with more ease I can dry my own back I can touch the bottom of the washing machine drum when unloading At work: I can cross my legs under the desk Everyday I can see progress. I'm so happy. Have a GREAT day everyone!

When I told my husband I wanted this, he didn't speak to me for 3 days and refused to go to the seminar. I told him that if he was concerned and had questions to research this with me. He did attend the seminar and spoke with the doctors and others at the support group meetings. Now he is my biggest supporter and I don't think I could be successful without him. He'll come around. He might just need more time and education/information. Good luck to ya!

I have bad, deep, loud hiccups. My surgeon told me it was from eating/drinking too fast. After 4 months, I still tend to eat too fast. Congrats on your surgery and good luck!

Geez Louise! I've taken it twice a day for 11 months. I must stop before I grow a beard. Thank you ladies. I guess I didn't research Biotin as well as I thought. Have a GREAT day!

Hello again! I have been taking Biotin for 11 months in anticipation for surgery this past March. I know it won’t prevent hair loss, rather promote hair growth (I started losing my hair 2 weeks ago). However, about 3-4 weeks ago I noticed I have developed a semi-dark mustache. I pointed it out to my husband and he said “I saw that the other day and wasn’t sure if I should point it out” so it's obviously noticeable. Anyway, could this sudden appearance of facial hair be due to the biotin, the surgery, or hormones? I now have an appointment with my hair gal to wax it off. This will be the first time wax has ever touched this girl. Any feedback is much appreciated.

OH, the places I can reach now!
KimDawn replied to KimDawn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
These are wonderful accomplishments! Congratulations to everyone. We are all AWESOME!!! Keep up the good work. -
My surgeon released me for cardio at 4 weeks and weight training at 6 weeks. I'm 4.5 months out and still waiting for my energy levels to rise. I use my stationary bike when I can. Good luck!

Foamies/Dumping? Esophagus Pain? YUCK!
KimDawn replied to freelee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Dumping/foaming is the pits. I'm 4 months out and I have dumped twice. I haven't tried sugar but too much fat will cause me to dump and it doesn't start until 2 hours after I eat. I dry heave for 30 minutes and then fall asleep. But when I wake up, I am fine. It is exhausting. I don't know when I will learn. But the frustrating part is that it's food I've eaten before that didn't bother me in the past. I asked my bariatric doctor and she said that happens to her and you never know when certain foods will upset your system. I guess it's a learning process. Just take it slow and listen to your gut. -
Hey, how long did you take off from work after surgery?
KimDawn replied to WinchSight's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I took 4 weeks. Disability is paid at 100%, for up to 4 weeks. When I returned to work, I was still pretty sore and on some pain meds. -
Hi Sam. Dr.Varnell performed my surgery on 3/25/2015. He told me about the left pain before I had the surgery. It is where the largest instrument/incision is located. However, when I came out of surgery I had severe back pain/spasms. It was due to how I was placed on the hard operating table. I am 17 days out and no longer have left side pain and my back is doing better. Just continue taking your pain meds and you will heal nicely. He told me just this last week that as my belly heals so will my back, and he was right. It was all about I held and favored my belly and how I walked hunched over. I was also able to take muscle relaxers to help with my back. I hope this helps somewhat. Good luck and here's to a quick recovery. -Kim
