1 night hospital stay?
marchethomas replied to Martene81's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Same here. Just had surgery on Monday. Surgery at 11 and home Tuesday afternoon. My pain level was still high but since my vitals and bloodwork were fine, they went ahead and discharged. Took a couple days but it does get better. -
Thats awesome. Had my surgery on Monday the 11th. The entire program was a blur. Before you know it, you'll be at the hospital checking in :-) They sent me home next day and I thought that was a little fast. Each day post op will get better. You may not think so the first couple days after surgery but it does. I had trouble getting down fluids the first couple days but today it finally happened and I hit my protien goal. Keep an ice pack on hand for post op. You will have swelling and the ice helps. The dvt shots do not hurt. The needle is so tiny. I have WHA insurance and it only took a couple hours to get the approval. Believe me, if UCD thinks there is an issue, they will tell you. Keep us posted on progress. If you have questions let me know. Hope to see you at the support group meetings and you'll do great! Ben

3 days until Surgery.

Your going to do great. Had my surgery Monday May 11th. It is all a blur. The hospital check-in, pre-op and then the short trip to the OR. Had every feeling you had pre-op. Still weak and a little tired but that is to be expected. Dont be afraid if you cant reach your protien goals the first couple days or so. I am post op day 4 and am still under a little. It is going to take time to heal your new stomach so go slow. Best of luck and wishing you well! -
Well, tomorrow is the day!

Hi Jenn. Yea we made it through! Post op day 3 and gas and pain is going away. Doc sent me home Tuesday afternoon even though I was still in pain. They gave me some liquid pain killer but cant get it down. Walking has helped a bunch! Still tough getting enough fluids down but hoping with time I can hit my nutrition goals. Hope you are still doing well. -

Me too with the bypass! Doing prep now and suffering through, lol. Surgery is at 10am tomorrow with 8:45am check in. Best of luck and keep us posted! -
Wow, it's been a roller coaster ride to get to this date. Like thousands before me I am a ball of emotion right now. Excitement, pride, happy, fear, anxiety and of course tired. Had a great start back in November with all my test being completed and then came the preop weight I needed to lose. I struggled through the holidays and tried to deal with the stressors of work the best I could. More than once did I skip an appointment and mentally think "i can just do this on my own without surgery". I actually gained weight up until March when my NUT asked if I would try Optifast. Though expensive, it was the best decision I could have made. I averaged losing 5lbs a week for 7 weeks. So now here I am, enjoying this lovely clear liquid diet. I would rather be on Optifast again, lol. I want to thank all those that post on this website. I have learned so much from those that have gone before me and love all the support everyone provides. I see that no matter what procedure you have, we are all in this together. I'll post again post op. Thanks for reading!

Quick question?
marchethomas replied to katiemcfaddenVSG's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Same here. Testing was one right after another with no time to breath. It seemed very overwelming and stressful. All test completed within 2 weeks. Hardest part was dealing with my work schedule but that was a sacrafice I was willing to take. It was all worth it though when you get your surgery date. May 6 is pre-op, May 11 is surgery date! -
Good luck today Leo! Im sure you will do great and I am hoping you get your date soon. I got the call Friday I having been waiting so long for. Preop on 5/6 and surgery 7am on Monday 5/11! Insurance approval only took a day so that is all covered. Now time to fill out FMLA forms. Keep up the great work!

Hi Leo. Same here. Forcasting May11 based on the weekly preop weight I am losing. Having mine at UC Davis. Would have had it in April but hit a wall with weight loss. Now on optifast and preop weight is flying off. Have another weigh-in the week of 4-27 and am crossing fingers they finalize the date.
