What are those little tape strips called?
4MRB4PHOTO replied to CowgirlJane's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Do you mean the Steri-strips that they apply across the sutured incision? -
Welcome. Unfortunately I can not help you with any advice, but maybe if you contact the different organizations that deal with spinal cord injuries and paraplegic issues, they may be able to get you in touch with hospitals that specialize with those patients to see their approach to the procedure and any special pre/post recommendations and different needs. Hopefully there is one in your area. If not, then you can see if your hospital has a similar approach or your surgeon, nurses & nutritionist can touch base with a facility that does. Congratulations on your decision to have this surgery.

HOW DARE YOU SAY THAT! We are supposed to be becoming a society where we are not responsible for our own actions. (Actually, it was a great answer. "The survey says................It's the #1 answer").

stop the food funerals
4MRB4PHOTO replied to Tootsietoes's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I think some people have food funerals so they can justify one last food binge. With few exceptions, most people can (only speaking for the VSG) can eat all of the same foods they did before. Just in smaller quantities and for certain ones, a lot less frequently. -
Wasting food mental issue
4MRB4PHOTO replied to MonikaMakal's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Can you buy some small stackable containers you can freeze the leftovers into individual meals with? This way you won't feel the urge to eat it because it was sitting in the fridge a few days. If all of you are out for the day and come home late or someone needs to leave early before supper is ready, they are available. -
What have you learned to love since WLS?
4MRB4PHOTO replied to dhrguru's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Myself. Sure, I love all the NSVs, having the energy to enjoy things I couldn't as much before, better health, and everything that comes with weighing a lot less. But very importantly, I am developing more self-confidence, self-esteem and a lot less self-loathing and depression on what I allowed myself to become physically. -
Sleve surgery

Congratulations. -
Go with the scale you weigh the least on.

Thanks BP you almost ruined my joke. The word was "Pu$$y Willow". (Is that a tree or a "bush"? )
-
That's what HE said. LOL. This brings a whole new meaning to "exploring one's roots"! And there it stood, like a mighty oak! Since it was said by a female, wouldn't the better choice of a tree be the "pussy willow"? (I didn't just say that! Me bad.)
-
Is Wales (Whales) a fat joke! (Just kidding, Welcome from the other side of the "pond")

Congratulations! Have your PCP/Nutritionist/Obstetrician work together for both of your needs.

What's everyone eating for thanksgiving?
4MRB4PHOTO replied to sarahbethemails's topic in Regular foods (stage 4)
OK, now this bothers me for some reason. Why is your sister asking what you can eat? Especially as you say you will be eating turkey, stuffing, green bean casserole and dessert....like EVERYONE else from coast to coast. Sorry....rant over. I don't think it was meant in a negative way. She probably meant it in a way to make sure she offered foods that her sister can eat. I took it as more of being a gracious host rather than insulting. I guess that is part of being overweight for so long, we sometimes misinterpret other people's intentions due to some people fat shaming us. -
In our household, we heard that, but with India (it's still Asia, so I guess it is similar). I wish they would have told me instead you don't have to eat everything on your plate, because you don't want to overeat and have a weight and health problems later in life. They grew up during the depression (no that wasn't after they had me you smart a$$es ), so there were some very lean times when there wasn't enough food to eat for them.
-
That's probably true. But everyone (women and men) has or knows of a loved one, relative, friend or neighbor who served our Nation. For nothing else, everyone should be thankful for their freedoms by whoever served, whether they know them or not. Just a soapbox minute on my part.

The horse Is dead. Why go on beating it?
4MRB4PHOTO replied to WLSResources/ClothingExch's topic in Rants & Raves
Ohhh, the 2nd sentence is related to the first. I thought they were two different subjects and you caught my attention. As Gilda Radner's SNL character, Emily Litella, said: "Never mind". -
It's a sad day when there are more reply posts about people eating a certain food then there is for this or any other Veteran's Day posts (maybe this was the only one?). I would like to think it is because people are patriotic and thankful, but they don't express it openly.

Keep up the excellent work you have been doing. You are not "lucky" it is all due to hard work. Also, you may want to wash your hands before you handle photographs in the future, there are black smudges all over the pictures.

Regretting it already..(day 1)
4MRB4PHOTO replied to ZombieQueen's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was thinking the same thing. Just a "Thanks for your concerns and suggestions" or check off some "Like This" boxes, or even just pass gas, just something as an acknowledgement. Maybe the OP hasn't had a chance to check back, I hope it isn't due to something more serious. This is very common for many posts, which is why some people may not post a long reply or go the extra distance and research information for someone. -
What's everyone eating for thanksgiving?
4MRB4PHOTO replied to sarahbethemails's topic in Regular foods (stage 4)
A little, very little, bit of everything. With an emphasis on protein and taking it easy on the carbs. -
Why not mix protein powder with water?
4MRB4PHOTO replied to BobbyD's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just make sure you do so outside or at least in a well ventilated room away from an open flame or anything that creates a spark. I would also have a fire extinguisher nearby, just in case. Yes, you can include the Water content of the drink towards your daily total. -
Scheduled for surgery today - hospital cancelled!
4MRB4PHOTO replied to lahhleslie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's better it failed. Imagine if it was malfunctioning, it didn't sterilize the equipment properly and you had your procedure?. Consider it a mixed blessing. Everything should go smoothly the next time. -
Losing Family and Friends
4MRB4PHOTO replied to charjsweet's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm not a psychiatrist, nor do I even play one on TV. Maybe her anger is towards herself, about her weight, and by having her friend also with quite a bit of excess body weight gives her a little comfort? Also, maybe she is afraid of being hurt that you will no longer want to be her friend after you lose your excess body weight? It could also be that she wasn't a true friend, but before you throw away a 30 year friendship, maybe find out first why she truly said those things. Good luck. -

Your body just went through major trauma. You may have been scared leading up to the surgery. Relax, take a deep breath and think about all the positive aspects your life will have post surgery. Follow your surgeon's instructions and keep yourself well hydrated. Every day gets better. "Always look on the bright side of life". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ep9Vzb6R_58
