    What Y'all Think- II

There is a Native American saying on judging another person that goes something like this: “Before you judge someone, you should walk a mile in their moccasins. That way when you judge them, you are a mile away from them and you have their moccasins.” I may have gotten some of it wrong in the translation.
  3. The doctors have an obligation to their patients to take a proactive role in reading the JAMA and other trade journals and going to seminars to keep up with the latest medical information. The part of prescribing a specific medicine, just because a sales rep gave them samples and touted how wonderful it is, without them researching the information, studies and alternatives is laziness on their part. Sorry if I offended anyone. But we are dealing with people's health and lives. This is the profession they chose and they do have an obligation and swear to upholding the Hippocratic Oath. Which is what brings me back to my first point of being able to suggest "specific" journal articles, etc. Because, there is SO MUCH information out there that no one physician, GP or specialist, can know everything about everything. A generalist by nature is going to know a little about a lot of things unless there is a reason to know more. We don't know what we don't know. Plus, some fields change so rapidly that what may have been appropriate at the time for the last patient they treated with a particular issue may be quite different. Case in point: Weight Loss Surgery. Medicine is not adversarial, it is extremely collaborative. Why not help if we can? PS, good pharmaceutical reps do much more than just "hand out samples". Yes, a good pharmaceutical rep does do more than hand out samples, but they have a vested interest in promoting the medicines manufactured by the companies they represent. They wouldn't keep their job very long if they told the doctor, "Yes, our new product is good, but it isn't as effective as this other manufacturer's lower cost medicine, which has lower side effects and also has more independent studies with high efficacy results. Also, we recommend you prescribe this medicine very sparingly so it isn't over-prescribed like many antibiotics". Given that, a doctor should research a little more on their own and look at alternatives to that medicine to see if that is the best choice or should it be prescribed as frequently as recommended by the rep. When a doctor recommends a medicine, I ask them why they recommend that particular one, the dosage, side effects, etc. I also read the information that the pharmacist prints out when dispensing it, especially the side effects and will even ask them too, if I have a concern.

Is this too much to eat?

Be careful of high calorie drinks such as fruit juices and sugar (-ose's) sweetened beverages so you aren't drinking a lot of your calories.

You know you lost weight when

I don't hear a deep groaning sound from my scale when I weigh myself (it was either the scale or my stomach was too big for me to notice I was stepping on my dog by accident).
  10. Based upon some recent studies with long term usage of PPIs and Calcium absorption/bone density (thinning), someone should only take it long term or permanently based upon their GI, PCP or surgeon's recommendation because of severe GERD or the risk of an ulcer is greater for them.

That date sounds like one of those "spring-missiles of October" romances.
  14. I noticed quite a few replies to many different posts being a little disrespectful lately. Having a differing opinion is one thing, flaming or cursing someone out because they don't agree with you is another. We are adults here and don't need to be "touchy-feely" and "PC" all the time, but respectfully disagreeing with someone (even in a "tough-love" way) is a better approach. There were times that someone really needed a response that would have even the filthiest mouthed person want to wash my mouth out with internet soap (probably "Lava" soap, since it has pumice in it), but I resisted. Not because they got over on me, but I decided not to engage in a battle of wits with an unarmed person. Granted, some people post as trolls and bait people, they are so good at it they are "master-baiters", but sometimes a non-aggressive response to them is better. They won't get the rise out of you and hopefully they will slither away back to underneath the bridge where they came from never to be heard from again. No animals were hurt in the making of this post.

What can I do with...Brussels Sprouts?

@chadhcanterbury "Anyway, like I was sayin', Brussels sprouts is the fruit of the garden. You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, sauté it. Dey's uh, Brussels sprout-kabobs, Brussels sprout creole, Brussels sprout gumbo. Pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried. There's . There’s pineapple Brussels sprouts, lemon Brussels sprouts, coconut brussel sprouts, pepper Brussels sprouts, Brussels sprout soup, Brussels sprout stew, Brussels sprout salad, Brussels sprouts and potatoes, Brussels sprout burger, Brussels sprout sandwich. That, that’s about it.” Nice Forrest Gump reference. You must be "Bubba Blue's" brother.

I have heard stories regarding some farmers and livestock: Farmer in court: "But your honor, she had the "baaaaaaaaady of an ewe, how was I to know she was only a lamb?".

    Dumped on Valentine's Day

It wasn't you, he probably doesn't want to be in a relationship with anyone right now. His loss. Remember the old adage: If you love something set it free. If it comes back to you its yours. If not, hunt it down and kill it. (JUST KIDDING!)

D-I-S-R-E-S-P-E-C-T Find out what it means to me

Unfortunately the internet turns some people into fierce keyboard warriors. They would probably never respond to someone like that in a face to face conversation. As much as anyone has a right to say what they want, having a little class goes a long way too. I wonder how many people do not ask questions, left this site or never joined after reading replies to posts that were totally out of line. Telling someone something with tough love is one thing, unjustly berating them, cursing them out or making them feel stupid is another.
