anyone else here had surgery more than 10 years ago?

Thanks. I'll space my iron and calcium supplements apart for now on. -
Have patience young grasshopper. In time you will be able to consume alcohol again (if you really want to), occasionally and in moderation.

URGENT--advice needed
4MRB4PHOTO replied to Krystenaj's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have definitely done a lot of research. They are highly rated by pretty much everything. My mother had bypass when I was younger and I am in science, so I have read every paper I can get my hands on and asked every question I can think to ask. I am trying to figure out who to contact as we speak. I don't want to cancel my surgery, but I am also in a place where I feel like I am totally "alone in the woods" as to what I am supposed to be doing or not doing. I'm also in constant fight or flight mode waiting for the next "surprise" to come at me. How do their pre/post surgery (and actual surgery) protocols, plans and recommendations compare to the WLS centers of excellence and the ASMBS? -

The good news is you still have a little time, more importantly, you have confidence in your surgeon's abilities. The bariatric support staff sound like they are lacking a little. Talk to your surgeon & your insurance company your concerns. Maybe even the staff to discuss some of your concerns regarding feeling like you are not being properly prepared. I am sure you researched this procedure (pre/post WLS), but see what bariatric centers of excellence and the ASMBS recommend. Good luck. -

At Disney they could have changed the song to "It's a smell world after all".

LipstickLady, If you do eat any of those foods, you can have some fun with it. Too bad you can't embed one in a response to any of the negative posters or trolls here.

If you really want to stir up the hornets nest, say you will drink it through a straw.

From what I recall, I was allowed decaf coffee very early on; regular coffee they wanted me to wait ~3-4 weeks. Either one can be acidic, so take that into effect. Follow your surgeon's recommendations.

Can we get back to talking about mangos instead? Even the Chris Kattan version is better than all this drama.

We do not need partisanship or hatred towards a particular ethnicity. We need to unite as one people, the human race, and offer our compassion, help, thoughts and prayers for the victims, their families and loved ones.

I started using hot sauces at about two weeks post surgery. Follow your post op plan and introduce them slowly to see how you respond to them. Enjoy.

OK, you want to rumble? I completely disagree with your take on @@LipstickLady . She is my friend because she has been great to me. When I was a newbie here (a few years ago), Lipstick gave me so much good advice I have never forgotten it. One bit of advice was: "Don't waste your first six months post-op, which are a magic time for weight loss. You will never lose weight again as fast as you can during this early period after your WLS. Another bit of good advice she offered was something you haven't quite grasped yet: "Take the good you find here, leave the rest." A third bit of good advice she has always given is: "Don't assume your experience is a universal WLS experience -- it's just your experience. Therefore, don't go around telling everyone that your experience is what they should expect." Finally, here is some advice from ME to the newbies who have gotten their tits caught in a wringer about the "tone" of this message board: 1. Try to lighten the f**k up. I know many of you are pre-op and going through your pre-op jitters. All the veterans understand what that was like. But trust me, not everyone here made others' lives miserable just because we had the jitters. 2. Finally, this will shock the hell out of some of you, but nobody who posts on this message board is here to serve your needs. No matter whether we're pre-op or five years post-op, most of us are here to help ourselves. Yes, we reach out to others with support from time to time, but nobody here is your mommy or your daddy. Every single person here has a plateful of challenges -- whether it's getting through the pre-op diet or struggling with regain or caring for a family member who has cancer or working for the world's worst boss or trying to overcome a transfer addiction or raising our grandchildren. YOU are not the center of OUR universes. WE are. You had me at "tits".

How much of your stomach was removed?
4MRB4PHOTO replied to Lisa_85's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I deeply researched the various WLS procedures so I could make the correct decision, to be well informed to know all of the pros and cons of each procedure, what is to be expected and be able to intelligently discuss my concerns with my surgeon. -
How do I tell my surgeon he screwed up?
4MRB4PHOTO replied to thomas1984's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was going to state the same things. First express your concern to the surgeon about the quantity of food you can consume and have them explain the size bougie they used and the details of your surgery (I don't know, but I assume their should be some sort of written report of the actual procedure). Have a barium swallow or other imaging test. Then you will have your answer and know how to proceed. Also, speak to a nutritionist to help you with your post WLS nutritional plan. 20oz of steak is too much, even if you are capable of eating it. Good luck. -
So I finally heard it tonight!

Wow.Just wow. Those few words can move mountains, rock the world, wake the dead. Perfect. And I'm saving it to read over and over. I was asked earlier today what made me lose weight so quickly. I usually don't tell people I had wls but for some strange reason I did this time. Maybe because it was a coworker? Idk. All I know is, is the fact that as soon as those words came out of my mouth I instantly "defended" myself and my "actions" I right away said things like "I work really hard, I eat healthy, I watch what I eat, I track everything, I don't eat hardly any carbs, sugar or grease, I watch my portions, I measure everything, I eat a lot of Protein, I drink lots of Water, I get in lots of exercise, ETC ETC ETC" Why did I even mention the surgery part? I think that what I said directly after saying that I had WLS is pretty convincing as to why I have lost so much weight and have been successful. I am glad those words had meaning for you. I have not had anyone ever say I took the easy way out (at least not to my face). People have been very supportive, they know I was obese but they were shocked by my actual weight, since I did not look that morbidly obese. The are happy for me because I am healthier and look and feel better. You owe no one an explanation, it is your life and health which you are trying to maximize your lifespan while minimizing health issues and also maximizing the quality of your life. They should be supportive of you, if they are not, they are not truly a friend. I can try to understand how someone who is not obese could possibly look at weight loss surgery, especially since they are probably not well informed about its success rate and they can't personally relate to obesity from their own experience. The ironic thing is for the people that judge someone due to their getting WLS to improve their health (mental and physical) and extend their life, is not the WLS but that the act of judging a person for getting WLS is the real issue. -
It is being performed by a surgeon working with a surgical piece of machinery ("robot'); it is not an automated procedure.

You can cook up another small piece of chicken breast with your supper and cut that into 1 oz slices to snack on for the next few days if you are hungry between meals; it's a great source of lean protein.

Nothing offensive there IMHO. It is nice to read a little about what someone is like. I use to own a Rosie Legged Tarantula as a pet. He may have taken offense to the "...and run screaming from spiders" part. -
