    Last meal

I never felt a need for a fattening high caloric "last meal"; I just had a sensible supper. This was only a pre-WLS diet, I wasn't on death row. I knew that after the post WLS diet phases I can enjoy the same foods again, just in smaller quantities and for many, less frequently. I already enjoyed too many high calorie meals in the past, which helped contribute to my obesity.

    What's your favourite...

I have a few favorite songs; I like the lyrics to Pink Floyd's "On The Turning Away" On the turning away From the pale and downtrodden And the words they say Which we won't understand "Don't accept that what's happening Is just a case of others' suffering Or you'll find that you're joining in The turning away" It's a sin that somehow Light is changing to shadow And casting it's shroud Over all we have known Unaware how the ranks have grown Driven on by a heart of stone We could find that we're all alone In the dream of the proud On the wings of the night As the daytime is stirring Where the speechless unite In a silent accord Using words you will find are strange Mesmerised as they light the flame Feel the new wind of change On the wings of the night No more turning away From the weak and the weary No more turning away From the coldness inside Just a world that we all must share It's not enough just to stand and stare Is it only a dream that there'll be No more turning away?

    YouTube 360 video of VSG

Thank you for sharing this. It was amazing to watch.
  4. That's TMI. What you do in your spare time is nobody's business.
  5. ABSOLUTELY NOT! That would be wrong. You need to use a capital "T", it should be "The crazy pizza lady".
  6. "This morning it said I was down 14 lbs from yesterday" I'd marry that scale. My talking scale says: "Hey, only one person at a time porky!" when I step on it.
  7. This was a fair question. The only stupid question is the one that was never asked. Wear a simple pair of panties and leave the crotchless, leather one at home.

    So That Was Embarrassing!

I'm sorry about you divorce. This man sounds very compassionate; congratulations.
  9. You should be able to enjoy those same foods again, just some less frequently and for all, in moderation. Yeah, you will savor the smaller amount of food you can eat. So instead of a huge burger and piles of sides, you have a half a hamburger or a burger without a bun (maybe wrapped with lettuce) and a little bit of the sides. You can take small amounts of the other items and enjoy all of the food's textures, flavors, smell, etc., instead of shoveling massive quantities down your gullet (no offense, I did that too).
  10. Didn't they give you handouts with the post WLS diet phases, the foods you can eat during them, etc.? If not ask them for it. If they don't have one, there are reputable sources online. You won't see pizza on it at 12 days, even if you are in the pureed or soft food phase and toss a slice in the blender.
  11. You should follow your surgeon's post WLS diet plan. pizza wouldn't be on it at 12 days post WLS. If you don't have one from them or the nutritionist, there are post WLS diet phase plans that you can find online from reputable bariatric surgery hospitals.
  12. Sugar coating isn't allowed either on the post WLS diet phase plans.

Who the hell do you think you are?

.... I have no issue with anyone provided they aren't trying to shove their way of life down my throat when I didn't ask for it...... You are still talking about vegans, aren't you?

    iBand - anyone had this?

The "iBand", is that made by Apple using cheap Chinese labor? If so, I guess every year they will come out with a new model.

    PPI's forever?

It isn't mandatory to take them for the long term or permanently for most people. Long term use of PPIs could lead to some people developing bone thinning due to interfering with absorption of Calcium. There was an article by the FDA and other studies. The surgeon wanted me to stop taking them after a few months for that reason. This will not affect everyone and if the risk of GERD or a stomach ulcer is greater than it is probably better to take this on the long term or on a permanent basis. That's something that a doctor needs to discuss with a patient on an individual basis to weigh out the risks. If someone is taking it for the long term or permanently, a bone density test could be performed periodically as can an increase in calcium and other nutrients -note, I wouldn't take massive doses of calcium or any Vitamin or mineral supplement without consulting a doctor due to side effects of those supplements in large quantities, people's medicines they may be taking and their medical history.

    Death

That death rate is extremely high. I would research further to look at more realistic statistics from reputable sources. The death rates would be higher, as with any surgery, for the extremely morbidly obese and people with significant health issues. The sad statistic is that 100% of the WLS patients will eventually die.

    Unsupportive family

I am sorry you are going through this. Can you sit down and have an open discussion on how you love them and are counting on them to support you through your weight loss journey? Then describe the behaviors and remarks that are making it more challenging for you right now. If all else fails, paybacks are a B****. Remember their lack of support when they need something like using the family car (if they are old enough), need a few dollars to go to the movies, be driven somewhere, etc..

DO AS YOU'RE TOLD BY YOUR SURGICAL TEAM!

I would have bought a ticket to see that!

Dr KindaFamiliar will be available to answer your questions...

Dr K., There was a great basketball player of the 1970's/80's named "Dr. J" (Julius Erving). I was going to ask you a medical question, but is he more qualified to answer because his name is earlier in the alphabet or do you have more training since he is only a "Dr J" and you have an advanced degree of "Dr. K"?

Maybe they meant those 4 out of 5 doctors preferred "camel toes"? (Hopefully the 2 legged variety).

Dr KindaFamiliar will be available to answer your questions...

Dr K., Many years ago there was an ad by the manufacturer of Camel cigarettes that stated "4 out of 5 doctors prefer Camels". My question to you is, are you like 80% of the doctors who prefer Camels or the 20%, such as myself, that prefer human sexual partners? Sorry , this is neither an offer from myself nor the camel at the local zoo.

    Post Your Silly Rant

How come hot dogs are packaged 10 to a container but how dog buns are packaged 8 in a bag? Enquiring minds would like to know. (No, I don't want a scientific response for an answer. This was only meant as a joke. Just post a silly rant here. No need to cause a controversy, just something we all can share a laugh about.)

Hi Doctor K, When I showed my PCP my knee and said "Doctor, it hurts when I do this", she told me "Then don't do that". Do you have any better advice?
