When people tell you you're taking the easy way out......
4MRB4PHOTO replied to ALittleMe0914's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The easy way out is to do nothing, remain obese, have health and emotional issues, not live life to the fullest and die an earlier death of an obesity related illness or comorbidity. Having major surgery to remove 80-85% of your stomach (for a VSG, other procedures can be more involved), following pre/post WLS diets and lifestyle changes, including eating differently, exercising, etc., is definitely not "the easy way out". -
You are eating ...Pasta? ...Alfredo Sauce? LET THE GAMES BEGIN. "Lucy, you need to do some 'splainin' to the food police". (I'll just sit back, wait and eat some microwavable popcorn then will follow it up with a diet caffeinated soda through a straw, 30 minutes after )

The nerve of you to make a suggestion of a healthy, appropriate post WLS diet phase alternative food choice. A dozen lashings to you with a cat o' nine tails made from spaghetti squash strands!

IS IT SAFE? What did you post?

Sending you a virtual hug and a smile; sounds like you need it.. It's his loss (and hers too for getting him). You are better off without him and will find true happiness with someone else.

Follow your nut's & surgeon's advice post surgery. You are well into the last post WLS diet phase. For others, you can start with decaf. initially and then introduce caffeinated at the appropriate phase Up to 2 mugs of regular coffee max (I am well past the initial post op phases) is what my nut recommends -granted 0 cups is probably what she prefers. Follow your nut's & surgeon's advice post surgery. There are many sources of caffeine (tea, diet drinks, etc.) so keep that in mind, also, coffee can be a little acidic, so drinking a lot of decaf. coffee could still irritate the stomach.

The us vs them, junior high school type cliques, incorrectly flaming people, bad attitudes towards helpful advice that was given, having already answered the same questions dozens of times, no feedback for people who take the extra time and effort to provide advice and info that is well above and beyond, or someone already answered that question in that post are a few reasons why people don't post or post as often. -
Congratulations. I also no longer needed to take Axiron for low-T once I lost a substantial amount of weight. With the FDA report on health issues regarding taking this, I am glad I no longer have to.

It doesn't have to be forever. I would definitely stay away from sodas containing sugar so you don't drink your calories. There are a lot of additives to soda, colas can be acidic as do many sodas have caffeine (which you should consume in moderation). Water is what nuts recommend, but there are ways to flavor it with little or no calories.

I had a talking scale that told me "Only one person at a time, fatty!". The very next (and last) thing it ever said was "HELP! HELP! I'M DROWNING!!!!!!!" Glug, Glug, Glug". After I threw it in the bathtub.

What can happen if I cheated on post op diet?
4MRB4PHOTO replied to Little Bee's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
The post-WLS diet phases should have been explained to you. If you have no written guidance contact your surgeon's office or do an internet search for instructions from reputable sources. Tacos and meat, less than one week post-WLS? That wasn't a very wise decision. You should avoid solid foods like these until the appropriate phase, just as you should avoid activities such as kick boxing right after surgery. -
You should be fine. Call up your surgeon's office and let them know for your own peace of mind.

Not drinking water with a meal?
4MRB4PHOTO replied to shelbys mom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It has been a very, very, very easy adjustment. It is now very natural and normal for me to not drink with meals. The thing that I have the most difficulty with is eating slowly. I still tend to eat too fast, which means my small meals are done really quick and I feel full right away. Not drinking 15 minutes before or 30 minutes after, is not a problem for me. Yes, I feel your pain. Eating fast is an old bad habit that still lingers for me. I am getting better, at least it isn't as bad as in the past where I ate so fast that sparks were flying off my knife and fork the same way it looks when a circular saw is cutting thorough a piece of aluminum. -

Anyone in north carolina

Yes, I believe there are ~10 Million people there. -
I recently went to a Chinese buffet as part of a birthday celebration for someone. I was hungry since I skipped Breakfast in anticipation of this and ate too fast and a little too much -big mistake. Well, my sleeved stomach adjusted the level about 1/2 an hour later. I rather go to a traditional restaurant and bring half the portion home.

The details of why you are seeking counseling can not disclosed to the employer. Many people see mental health professionals. Now if you are worried about a "good job", they may will ask you about any substance or alcohol dependency or abuse. If you lie on that, that could cause you a good job, as possibly coming to work while under the influence of alcohol. What is more important is that you receive help. If you do not want to see a mental health care professional, please start with a support group like AA. You are too young to ruin your life and health. Wishing you the best.

I don't believe half of the people responding lack comprehension to what you wrote. There is a liquid diet (typically 1-2 weeks prior to the surgery) but surgeons also recommend losing weight from the initial consultation until the surgery date too to shrink the liver, lose fat which gives more room for them to work, show that you are committed to losing weight, lowers your chance of a complication (due to hopefully improved health/fitness, lower weight, smaller liver and more room to perform the surgery, etc.), amongst other reasons. Also, most medical plans require a 3-6 month doctor supervised diet prior to the surgery. You would be in that phase, even though you were not in your liquid phase. I know my surgeon recommended not drinking any alcohol during this period due to wasted calories, bad habits, etc.. Why did you ask this question to people on the internet, most of whom don't have any medical experience, also, criticize them when they answer your question to the best that they thought they understood what was being asked?

Look who woke up on the wrong side of the world this morning. Welcome back. -
This reply is after the fact, I would have asked your surgeon. The preop diet, in part, helps shrink the liver. I don't see how alcohol consumption prior to surgery could have no effect on the liver (maybe very small amounts of alcohol wouldn't, but why risk it without asking your surgeon's team?)

Gastric Band or Plication?

How high is your BMI? Could you get a second opinion to see if other options are feasible?
