When can I drink through a straw?
4MRB4PHOTO replied to mommafranz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I never heard a frog make the sound "Rebbe, Rebbe", but I heard of a perverted frog that said "Rub-it, Rub-it". -
"Can you physically eat a tub of ice cream or a packet of biscuits?" Not necessarily in one sitting. But you can over a period of time. You need to get control of this behavior, it is counterproductive to all of the hard work you will be doing. There are many good articles here and on the internet that address this. Good luck. I have confidence you can do it.

Right now Rex Ryan is probably surfing this webpage using only one hand on the computer. -
Nicotine Testing
4MRB4PHOTO replied to TheStarvingMom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You were able to quit for 2 months, great work! Be careful of the stress smoking you did. Post surgery there will still be stresses in all of our lives. You don't want to have a cross addiction to deal with stress once food (and hopefully nicotine) are removed as your go to stress reliever. Try to get control of the things that stress you in a productive way now so you will not have to deal with them in a less productive way post WLS. As others pointed out, there are health reasons why you shouldn't be smoking pre/post surgery. Good luck. You can do it! -
At least you did not follow that remark up with "She tried to tell me then but I didn't understand what she was saying because her mouth was full".

Your doctor sounds like a real Di- (I'll pause and try to restructure this sentence. ) If he truly was about to say the "...don't care", it is time to find a different doctor who really cares.

When can I drink through a straw?
4MRB4PHOTO replied to mommafranz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Bottom line, people should follow what their surgeon recommends. Immediately post surgery, some doctors are concerned about drawing air and discomfort, mine wasn't, even my hospital served me Water with a straw right after the procedure. Maybe studies using proper scientific methods and enough samples later on might show that drinking through a straw is bad for WLS procedures, but how someone could consume that much air by drinking normally through a straw and not have it exit in the form of a burp, is something a doctor will need to explain. I personally don't use a straw unless I am on the road and purchase a diet fountain soda (DOH!!! I probably just opened another can of worms! Double Doh! Worms are probably not allowed until the solid food phase! ) -

Being much further post WLS than you, I was told not to drink 15mins before/nothing during*/30mins after. *The exception being a small sip of Water during a meal is ok if the food is a little dry.

It could be a few different reasons. A few examples are dehydration, low magnesium or low potassium. Talk to your doctor before you take potassium supplements just in case they are concerned of a kidney issue.

Well, then. Is it better if I say 'dang, the Blood of Christ burned like it was cheap Merlot'? If so, then can you say "The plain version is ok but I prefer the parmesan and rosemary flavored body of Christ" (Communion Wafers)? Or, "Does anyone have a little "Guac" to go with this?"

Would you do it again?
4MRB4PHOTO replied to char3672's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I never regretted getting the VSG. My health, quality of life and self esteem all greatly improved. My only regret is not having the procedure performed years earlier. -
You should know what is expected post WLS, before your surgery, so you know what to expect and you can have what you need available when you get home from the hospital.

Ahhh... You edited that one. No, he is just reposting it on an installment plan, one letter at a time.

If I listened to what many people told me, I would spend quite a bit of time fornicating with myself.

No, her health was asked about.
-
No, it isn't directed to any one person. It is based upon 2 years worth of different WLS websites and posts I read from people who were informed what they should or shouldn't do, are of at least reasonable intelligence to know better, can post on a website so they know how to use a computer to search for the correct information, don't want to contact their surgeon or nurses for appropriate guidance, do not want to follow printed guidelines they were given, etc.. and act in behaviors that at the very least are counterproductive to weight loss and at worst could cause them physical harm.

It is too late to ask your doctor today, but what were your post WLS instructions? Are there any medical reasons why you need to follow a slightly different plan? You were sleeved ~2 months ago. If you do have a drink, be careful, alcohol may have a stronger affect on you post WLS, so let someone else drive. Alcohol, as compared to a battery acid martini with a carpet tack instead of an olive, when you don't know if it is safe to consume, is a better choice.

Food funerals
4MRB4PHOTO replied to beautiful_alarms's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
A food funeral is not necessary. Food did not die. You will be able to enjoy the same foods post surgery, in time, in smaller quantities and for some less frequently. -

Eating slow but not slow enough
4MRB4PHOTO replied to 4u2nvyme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes & Yes. I still eat too fast. I need to learn to slow down, but more importantly, I need to learn not to carry the weight of the world on my shoulders and relax a little more. I am trying to get myself to that level of "Zen" but, old habits die slowly. I also get hungry at night too. Try to have a low calorie, good Protein snack since protein takes longer to digest or some other low calorie snack or a Protein shake if you are low on protein for the day. Maybe have a low/zero calorie beverage first to make sure it isn't due to thirst. Also, old habits die slowly. I also use to snack at night a lot too, but am much better now. Keep up the good work. -
My ex-lover has an issue with me getting sleeved
4MRB4PHOTO replied to VSGMEPLZ26's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
He is an EX-boyfriend for a reason. His ignorance EXceeds his EXpertise about WLS. You need to EXplore different people to go out with.
