Diabetes after Sleeve
mmwishart replied to CJ Porter's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was on Metformin 1000 mg, Byetta and glipizide. My endocrinologist took me off everything as of the day of the surgery, with a meeting scheduled for 3 weeks post surgery to discuss my finger sticks. They were so good, she left me off everything pending my A1c test 3 months post surgery. With no meds, my A1c was 6.1. Prior to starting the program, my A1c was over 11. Just prior to surgery, it was just under 8. Needless to say, I am very happy! -
It's so awesome to only have clothes in my closet that actually fit me! If it's too big, out it goes!

I do Zumba 3-4 times per week. I also do yoga 1-2 times per week. I need to add weight in there somewhere. I also try to get in 10,000 steps pretty much every day.

When did you buy new clothes?
mmwishart replied to Sara51692's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
If you have a Savers near you, they carry plus sizes. I buy stuff at Goodwill/consignment, and I haunt the sales racks. You say you are in New England. If you are in Massachusetts, there's a Talbots Clearance store in Woburn. They have good plus sized work clothes. -
I'm a low BMI person too. I'm also 3 months out, and have lost 50 lbs since starting the program-30 of them post-op. I've been hungry lately. Thanks for the recommendation about saffron. I'll give it a try.

My husband has terrible eating habits. He also wears an insulin pump. This does not prevent him from eating ice cream, chips, candy, Pasta, etc. He also asks me if I want some. I think he's sad he's lost his pig out buddy. I can't make him eat healthy stuff-and I've tried. I can only be responsible for me.

I was sleeved in June, and in my first stall now. I was up to about 1100 calories per day. I'm dropping back to 800-900 to see if that helps.

I agree Asian sizes run tiny. My son's friend bought him a men's large shirt in Nepal. It fits him perfectly. My son is 5'6", and weighs 140. He wears a men's small here.

Mine have disappeared since the surgery too. I've had them since I was a kid.

I make a smoothie with Greek yogurt, almond milk, 1/2 a banana and 1/2 cup on blueberries. Next I'm going to substitute pumpkin for the blueberries.

Feeling Like a Failure
mmwishart replied to NYCVSGGirl87's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No carbs from flour or sugar, limit starch veggies. No junk food. Eat Low fat dairy and lean Protein. Lots of veggies. A little fruit. A small amount of fats from vegetable sources. Measure your food. Exercise. -
I had mine done at BID Milton by Dr. Schneider in June. His team is fab! I was sleeved, and have lost 45 lbs total, including the pre-op diet.

Those listerine strips are good too.

My lower GI track was off for about a month. It will settle down. -
Any Massachusetts Sleevers?
mmwishart replied to starr1202's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Framingham. I was sleeved at Beth Israel Milton in June. Down 45 lbs including pre-op. Awesome program! -
I've been doing Zumba several times a week since 2 weeks after the surgery. I'm 2 months out now, and have added kickboxing and weights. I also walk most days

I am 2 months out. I get hungry at times when it is normal to be hungry. I eat breakfast around 6:00 am. At noontime I am hungry. I eat an afternoon snack, and I'm hungry at dinner time.

Food Scale - do you really need one?
mmwishart replied to jhclikesshopping@gmail.com's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Get one with the Tare feature. That means you can put your plate on it and then zero it out. -
I'm 4 weeks out. Saw the endocrinologist today. My finger sticks have been good enough that she officially discontinued all my meds (which I had been off since the surgery to see how I was doing). Before I started this program, I had uncontrolled diabetes, and was on 3 meds for that.

I'm using the Aveda Invanti system. It's expensive, but I have noticed that I have less hair loss than before I started using it, and my hair looks thicker. I'm only a month out from surgery, so I don't know what will happen in a couple of months, but I'm hoping for the best!

What kind of exercise are you guys doing?
mmwishart replied to ldean7's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was cleared for Zumba after 2 weeks, but I had been doing it before the surgery. No weight lifting until 4weeks after. -
I love Zumba too! I go to a class 3-4 times per week.

VSG With Simultaneous Hiatal Hernia Repair
mmwishart replied to UnbeSleevEable85's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had a hernia repair too. The only thing I noticed was after it was first done, it hurt to take a deep breath. That resolved after a few days. I also slightly noticed it when I returned to exercise classes. At the very end of the class the first couple of times, I had a slight pain from all the deep breathing. -
Need more variety!
mmwishart replied to Lanewboricua's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You can buy sample packs from Nashua Nutrition or Bariatric Pantry on line. That way you don't have to stick to one flavor all the time. -
Pain around lower left shoulder blade?
mmwishart replied to shancanssleevejourney's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Get some Gas-ex strips. Definitely sounds like gas.
